Here, in part A, As the remaining put together is 57, there is a possibility that one of the 3 companies sold 50 and the other two sold 3 and 4 respectively? [I believe the answer should be 'C' Cannot Determine]

1) WidgetMania and WidgetExpress accounted for more widgets sold than the other 3 internet companies for at least 1 month in 2012. _____________

In the month of Feb, the worldwide average was ~30. So, all the companies put together would have sold 150 widgets. Of these 150, WM & WE sold approx 45 & 48 widgets respectively. So, the remaining three (put together) sold 57 widgets. Hence, TRUE.

A. True
B. False
C. Cannot determine

2) In August 2012, the three widget merchants not specified on the graph sold a total of exactly_______________widgets.

In Aug 2012, the worldwide average was ~50. So, all companies sold 250 widgets. Of these WM & WE sold approx 130 widgets. So, the remaining three sold ~120 widgets. Hence, Option B
A. 54
B. 116
C. 129
D. 147

Hi nonameleftxxx, I understood what you tried to mention for part A. Actually, we need to see if the sum of WidgetMania and WidgetExpress is greater than the sum of the remaining 3. We are not looking for which merchant has the highest. Therefore, for the month of February, WE+WM~45+48=93 and the total of the five was ~30*5=150. So, 150-93=57 and 93>57. Thus, it is true.

Hope it helps.

But 57 would still be less than the 2 companies put together (~90). it doesnt matter one of the 3 might be individually greater than one of the 2, the sum of 3 is definitely less than sum of 2

If anyone want a quant style approach to make things simpler.

a+b+c+d+e = 5*avg

c + d + e = 5*avg - (a+b)

Q1 a + b > c + d + e ?
a + b > 5*avg - (a+b)
a+b > 2.5*avg

look for values in graph where a and b are high and avg is less in comparison, Feb seems like it substitute a,b, avg
45 + 48 > 2.5 * 30 ?
Yes. So choose True

Q2
c + d + e = 5*avg - (a+b)
5*50 - (60+70)
250 - 130 = 120 (if u observe graph, avg is slightly less than 50)
So 116 makes sense for this

I feel like question 1 should mention that its more than the other 3 *combined*, or else it can cause someone to maybe assume that each of the three company separately all did worse than WidgetMania and WidgetExpress. But I guess, it is implied in the question to combine WidgetMania and WidgetExpress, so the other three should be combined too. Ugh, if I saw this in a real test the wording would really give me a pretty massive anxiety attack. lol.
