Re: ISB Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
hello suheilmohan

I'd recommend a retake and target a 680+ to have a decent shot at ISB.
Your background is certainly different, but don't rest on this laurel alone.
A profile is made up of Acads+WorkEx+Extracurricular+Career Goals. Read here what makes a strong profile.
Not sure about your career goals and extracurricular here. (college level ECA do not carry much weight unless something stellar).
Also, work related info is very transactional and role based. Nothing on achievements or career progression, which may show some strengths in your profile.
The only thing that can compensate for a low GMAT is 'quality' in your profile, whihc you haven't mentioned much around. So in that case retake the GMAT and push the score up to 680 at least.

Hi Suheil! You certainly have an interesting profile and with over 3 years of experience, there is no reason to wait for another year. 620 isn't going to help, but anything around 700 will give you a decent shot at ISB.

Hi abhijitmohanty,

You have a fine overall profile and with the kind of time you have before you apply, we are confident you will be able to build this up. We would strongly recommend that you keep performing in your existing role to have as many achievements as possible as they will serve as good talking points in your essays.

Having said the above, the GMAT will be crucial and we suggest that you prepare for it and get it out of the way :-) Aim upwards of a 730 as GMAT expectations will anyway be higher from you (as an Indian IT Male :-)). A high GMAT score, together with a set fo well-drafted essays (in which, the career goals move in sync) will give you a very strong chance at making it to ISB! :-)

All the best!

Hello holyghost91

Overall a strong profile wit decent acads, work ex and extracurricular activities. You can read here on what factors to highlight in your essays.
The 2 year gap can be compensated if you can show what you were doing in those 2 years.
Since you are planning to apply next year you will have more than enough time to work on your application. I recommend spend the next one year working on and building all parts of your profile including work ex and extracurricular activities to increase your chances of admission. Do not wait till Jan but start early, it will help you immensely.
Target a 700+ in GMAT and you should have a decent shot at ISB.

Hello Daaku05

The 'stats' of your profile are pretty strong. Will help further if you can mention some qualitative details as well such as career progress and achievements at work and extracurricular activities. Read here to know what makes a complete profile.
Also missing are your career goals and why you need an MBA from ISB. This narrative will be critical to predicting your chances. You can read here on career goals after ISB.
Target a 700+ and present realistic career goals and you have a fighting chance at ISB.
Should you have further questions, let me know.

Merged - please continue the discussion here for profile evals.
P.S. For your target schools that will automatically disqualify you; they are unlikely to even review your application since the average is around 700. No dice. You can wait until you can possibly do an EMBA (possibly without GMAT).

Good Luck!

Hi Suheil,

Hope you are doing well.

I am an ISB alum, CO14, and would be happy to evaluate your candidature.

While I definitely see you bringing diversity to the ISB classroom, but since the competition is quite high over the recent, I will recommend you to retake the GMAT and aim for a score in excess of 670 to get a realistic shot of being considered. This is under the assumption that, you will. back your score with a high quality application articulating your experiences, goals, and value add to the ISB cohort - as a student and as a an alumni.

In case you have further questions and want a detailed discussion. Please feel free to reach out to me at arijit.biswas@crackadmission.com and/or M :+91-9701215544

Hello piyushsrivastava7

First things first- I would highly recommend a retake and target a score of at least 640+ if nothing else. With a 550-ish score the chances are very low even if your profile is strong in other areas.
It is good to hear that you are confident of your essays, but at times applicants do not completely know who they are competing with. Several people with such profiles apply and at times things need to be put into perspective.
To get a successful admission you will need to have a spike on at least 3 admission factors mentioned here.
Plus the details given by you are highly qualitative in nature and these 'stats' conceal more than they reveal about you. It would obviously help further to understand the actual nature of your work, career progress, achievements, past academic scores, extracurricular activities, career goals. Unfortunately all of this qualitative info is missing to give a detailed feedback. In absence of this, I will suggest to target at least a 650.
Should you have further questions, let me know.

Hello hardikgandhi

You have a lot going for you. Good past acads, decent target GMAT and potentially a good work ex background.
You'll need to showcase a spike in the admission factors mentioned here.
That said, you will more importantly need to tie in all of the above with your career goals and showcase a need for an MBA at ISB. One does not necessarily needed an MBA to succeed at entrepreneurship. You can read more on career goals here to help in your research.
Should you have further questions, feel free to reach out.
