Hi Pranavmohan2,

Your work experience, on the surface, looks good. To get an evaluation, you need to share more details, like your undergrad GPA, details of your work experience, ECs if any, hobbies you pursue, your post-MBA goals and any other material info. You may provide the details here on the forum itself.
Cheers!

Hi shivampandya,
Here's my take on the components of your profile,

Acads- 10th was good but 12th and graduation (unless a trend for your university) slightly on the lower side

Work-ex (incl. freelance): Pretty impressive, especially the freelance security consultant bit. With Infosys, the kind of achievements you've had are not usually seen from someone with ~2 years experience at the largest IT/ITES players

Co-curricular: Among other things, the course you have on Udemy is definitely a 'spike'. Both ISB and recruiters, in general, would appreciate the knowledge you're imparting through your stint there

Extra-curricular: Being a magician sounds interesting. I can foresee you taking lessons and performing at a number of events at ISB. While there are a number of diverse performers in every class, this one does stand out

Regarding GMAT- Someone with your level of work ex would be expected to have a 710+. However, because of escapades outside of Infosys, you should be in good stead with a ~670-680 score. That's the only thing I'd recommend aiming for. Other than that, there isn't much you can (or need to) do to improve within the next ~50 days. The challenge for you would be to blend everything that you do in your essays and application so that the impact isn't lost out.

Couldn't get a sense of your goals from the post so please share. My take is that you're a great candidate for a Cyber Security role (in case you don't want to start-up :))

All the best!

Hello S4G

Thank you sir for the detailed reply, really appreciate it.
My post MBA goals are more inclined towards leadership roles in IT field. I am interested in product designing and management domain at tech giants like Amazon. MBA will help me in these career advancements which otherwise would take more years to achieve.

[ I have not put much thoughts into start-up though, but will be a new experience some day for sure :D ]

Hi Guys,
Please review my profile for ISB PGP. Details as follows:

School
10th: 84%
12th: 85% [PCM with Computers]
Undergraduate
B.E. (Hons.) Chemical from BITS-Pilani, Rajasthan
CGPA - 6.6/10

Work Experience
6 years of experience in market research and consulting industry.
Built a complete domain from scratch, growing from 0 to generating over 25% of the company’s revenue

Leadership Experience

Why MBA?
I want to leverage my exposure to business strategy and transition towards the advisory side.

As my prime focus is to get an MBA from a college with good exposure in the consulting industry, it would be great if you could also mention my chances for b-schools such as HEC Paris, INSEAD, and IVEY (Canada).
Thanks!

Hey pratx2727,

You have a pretty good profile,

Academically, the brand of your undergraduate college is great and adds weightage to your profile as adcoms tend to pick out applicants from the top schools of each country. However, your GPA is slightly on the lower end, but posing the right alibi for the same (health issues or your endeavour for holistic development) would allow you to overcome this drawback in your profile. As for your GRE, while a score of 321 is competitive, retaking it to increase your score by 8-10 points would boostthe AdComs confidence in your academic abilities and improve your acceptance chances.

As far as your work experience goes, you have a pretty diverse work experience with significant international exposure which definitely acts as a differentiator in your profile. In order to stand out from the crowd, you most certainly should focus on your leadership roles and major projects of your work and how these experiences helped to develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. Since you lack big brands in your work experience, you can compensate for providing an apt reason as to why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, the initiatives you took, projects you undertook and the kinds of impact created to showcase an equally competitive profile.

As you haven’t mentioned any details about your recent extracurricular activities, I’d like to let you know that Extracurricular participation plays an important role in strengthening your applications as B-schools are on the hunt for all-rounder profiles. That said, it is essential to shed some light on any CSR initiatives or other endeavours you’ve taken up at your organization. Volunteering initiatives or certifications undertaken would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. Thus, you should dig deeper into this aspect and bring out varied skills in your profile or seek to build in this area if the need be.

Moving on to the school you are targeting, I’d say you have a decent chance of getting accepted into all of the top schools. Since ISB, HEC and INSEAD fall under the dream category, you’d have a 40-50% chance of getting admitted. Ivey on the other hand falls in the competitive category and you would have a 60-70% chance of getting admitted there. One thing to keep in mind is, Dream schools have a very stringent acceptance rate of 12-15%. Hence, it is always better to target a mix of dream, competitive and safe schools. To help you understand better, I’ve suggested a few more competitive schools that you could be targeting according to your profile:

-ESCP
-ESSEC
-Rotman
-Schulich
-Ryerson
-UBC

Lastly, to increase your chances of getting admitted at these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application consisting of well-drafted Essays, LORs and resume to back your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers and how you are a great value addition to the school. A strong application increases your chances of acceptance by up to 30%.

On this note,  if you are looking to target these top B-schools and want to create a strong application that highlights your strengths and overshadows your weaknesses, you can follow the link below to Book a Free Consulting call to connect with one of our founders to gain in-depth knowledge of the application process and create a winning strategy.

2.I have already done Master's will it help to see Adcom my Work exp as 3 +2!!? or it will not work in my favor?
3.Do you see my domain(Renew Energy) & PostMBA goal has uniqueness ? Any tips?

Hi RishS94, reappearing in GMAT is a good and mature decision. 670 is not a bad score and so, any score upwards of this, is only going to increase your chances.

1.Along with evaluation would you also comment on the 70% in XII; How do you see its impact?

ISB does look at your XII marks, so this is obviously not when you can rejoice at. Having said that, because your class XII marks are slightly on the lower side, this would be yet another reason why a higher GMAT score will help your cause, since a higher GMAT score will give the Admissions Committee a signal that you are definitely not inherently week in academics. In any case, I do not see this as a showstopper.

2.I have already done Master's will it help to see Adcom my Work exp as 3 +2!!? or it will not work in my favor?

Only 3.

3.Do you see my domain(Renew Energy) & PostMBA goal has uniqueness ? Any tips?

It is definitely unique field to be working in, and is the in-thing. I am very heartened to note that your career goals align with your career experiences so far. One thing that did strike me however, was your statement: "MBA will give me a holistic view of the sector". This is something that MBA will not do. There would be very few (if any) courses that would specifically be available in MBA, in the energy/renewable sector. So, you need to think through very clearly what you exactly want MBA to do, so as to enable your career aspirations.

Hi shivampandya, 650+ is a rather vague clue; 660 and 760 are both 650+.

See if you can land somewhere in the middle. That will really help your cause.

Surprisingly, you din't even mention your graduation discipline and where you graduated from.

Many Thanks, ISBeacon.

[2] So my Master's degree will not give me any edge w.r.t Graduate applicant?

[3] the holistic approach ref was in the sense Broader knowledge on factors impacting Energy transition i.e Policy + Finance/asset mgmt + Operations/Strategy. I basically don't want to stick to Wind domain & expand into complete Renewable as in grid application. (PS: I have expertise in Wind but Only wind is not sufficient for the Planet's energy needs; We need Wind +Solar + Gas for the stability of renewables; so I would like to have business/Strategy knowledge that MBA can give.)

Please let me know if it's a convincing basic storyline?

:) Thanks

I intend to return to Private Equity as an industry and an ISB MBA should help me take post-MBA roles (VP, Associate) which can put me on track for partner roles.

What are my chances of converting with a score of 690?
What is likely to be a safe GMAT score?

Hi pranav1agg,

Your profile looks great. Surely, ISB can be a good pick for your goals.

Stats: I believe you should go ahead with this GMAT score. Yes, ISB does stress a 700+ score but then you have various other pointers to exhibit your academic prowess.

Work-ex: Again, a good experience. Some fast promotions, good international exposure and I can also think of a substantial impact of yours on the following organizations. So, if articulated cogently, you can ace this space!

ECs: I can find some great things, for example, your tech startup exhibits a leader with an innovative side of yours. You seem to have interests aligned with finance.

So, overall, I think, your profile is good for ISB. But I wonder if you're looking for schools outside India? Because for your goals, I think there are schools that can provide you with great exposure to the industry. For example, LBS has a PE & VC club which is a huge community of people like you and do provide a hell lot of opportunities in the field. So, with this profile, you should look at other schools as well.

If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call with you to discuss your profile at length and help you connect with like-minded people. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi nikhilbhat,
Overall, good profile (esp work-ex).
Acads: Slightly on the lower side, especially 12th (yes, ISB does consider!)

Work-ex: This is the strongest aspect of your profile. Rich experience across the automotive sector with two of the top brands in the two-wheeler segment. The fact that you have exposure to the BS VI models puts you in good stead to position yourself as a proponent of sustainability. You can project your profile as both as a product development/marketing one + operations one.

Regarding goals, the better bet would be within the Automotive practice with Operations Consulting to start with as this would resonate better with your prior experience. Think from an employer's point of view- you'd bring over 6 years of experience within the sector and domain and they'd like to first leverage you there and then you can eventually move towards strategy consulting

Extra-curricular / Hobbies There are good as well, project your NGO experience well

Regarding GMAT- in case you were getting higher scores in mocks, do consider re-taking it to improve by 20-30 points since we have more than a month to go. The score isn't bad but this would enhance your chances a bit. If not, then start working on your application now!

You could also target the IIMs for their R3 in case you're targeting Indian schools.

All the best and feel free to reach out for further questions.

Cheers,
Manan

Hi nikhilbhat

Highlights - Respectable GMAT Score, Extensive Work experience to demonstrate your career growth story, Good Career Growth to demonstrate leadership experience, Reasonable Extracurriculars

Focus Areas - Your Post MBA objectives, Why Strategy Consulting

XII grade academics are not so stellar hence a higher GMAT score would have helped compensate for the same. Also, coming from a supply chain background, applying to consulting positions within operation firms would have a higher probability of success. in addition, you would have to demonstrate and excel in academics at ISB if you want to break into strategy consulting (realistically speaking). It would really help if you can provide examples of how you’ve solved some of the challenges at work from a strategic aspect.

Overall this a decent profile however your applicant pool is also expected to have higher GMAT and academic scores. It would be useful to put effort in how you make your profile stand out from an over represented engineering applicant pool, which should come out in your essays.

All the best and good luck with your application (link in signature)

Could you please take a moment to fill this feedback (It’s anonymous if you wish so).
