I would appreciate it if you could rate my profile:
Class X : 10/10 GPA (CBSE)
Class XII: 475/500 (CBSE)

Undergrad : 3.65/4.00 from University of Illinois
Masters : 3.66/4.00 from University of Illinois

Co Authored a publication nominated for best paper at an international conference.

Gmat: 760 (Q51, V41, IR 8)

Work Experience :

1. 10 months as a Software Engineer at a startup in the US

2. 3.5 years working as a director in my family business in India. I look after the operations of the company.

Extracurriculars:
1. CBSE Heritage India Quiz, National Finalist in 2010
2. Quizzing competitions - various wins

Could you rate my chances please ?
Thanks in advance.
Curiously, you chose not to mention your subject in undergrad & masters, the nature of your family business, or your goals.

Nevertheless, the profile seems decent. At the time of interview, you might have to explain why MFAB would not be better suited to your needs.

Looking from a diversity stand point, your profile is unique and stands out. Your post MBA goals are pretty much in sync with your current work experience. Extra curriculars are brownie points which can be inputted in your essays and can also be brought as part of the interviews. A 700+ GMAT score should give you an interview invite. A lot depends on how well you articulate your application content and how ISB can be a catalyst to propel you in the Brand Management space. All the very best for your endeavors.

Overall Profile is decent. Your respective scores do tick the Acads pointer.(school and undergrad). GMAT is slightly on a lower side, however, there have been similar profiles who have got admits with scores of 650+. You can also try once taking a GRE mock. A lot depends on how well the short term and long term goals are drafted and how ISB is bridging the gap. Try to apply before October to ensure that there is an interview invite coming your way by Nov/ Dec 1st week. All the best for your application Journey.

Hi lalliemoon,

Very good profile overall. A diverse workex coming in from a brand management / marketing background. You have options for core Brand management (vertical leap) or consulting within retail sector practice (horizontal leap) as goals so explore well before zeroing in on one. Good extra-curricular, link your writing to the marketing efforts as part of the MCC (graduate student body) or for the admissions team as well.
Acads are on a slightly lower / average side so a 720+ GMAT would really really help with your chances.

All the best!

Cheers,

Overall, decent profile..try re-working on the GMAT to be within the average range at ISB (710+). There is enough time before R2 deadline (Nov 27). Considering the extra-curricular are also not superlative, the chances for an interview call are slightly lower. You can also try the IIM one-year programs as well with this profile. Couldn't get a sense of your goals.

First of all, no corporate exposure is NOT a downside. You bring fresher ideas, perspectives and more importantly, resilience to the cohort. The acads, etc. in your case won't matter much but a 700+ GMAT would do a world of good for your chances. Try applying this year itself in case possible, even R3 would work. Happy to have a detailed chat about the chances.

Someone from a similar profile we worked with last year, graduated this year. He also had experience in J&K for many missions. Can connect you with him if you want.

Hi Krishnaps54

If we have to put a number on the rating, I would go with 8.5/10. Having done both undergraduate and masters from the USA with good CGPA and with excellent GMAT score will help you compete among the most competitive pool of applications. Assuming you would have done well in your first job and then in the family business in terms of learning and contribution, if presented well through the essays and the application, an interview is guaranteed leading to a quality discussion in your interview.

Do not miss the R2 deadline and try to submit your application by the end of this month or early next month.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi NischalSR

Although you have a good academic background with quality work experience in Non-IT and E-commerce, your current GMAT score will pull down your weighted average score affecting your overall score basis which the applicants are shortlisted for interview. We strongly suggest that you write GMAT again to improve your score, which will help you make a strong application.

This score is really hurting NischalSR.

If you are serious about ISB, prepare for 2 months and get a 700+ score for R2.

If your family business is in transformers, any reason why you didn't graduate in Electrical engineering?

Wouldn't that have been more relevant?
