Wait Listers:
I know how frustrating is is to be on the wait list, caught in limbo, between accept and deny. It was a brutal 4-5 months of being caught in limbo. I also only applied to USC so i put all my eggs in the Trojan basket. (Sorry UCLA but USC is my home and the only place i wanted to go)
I will try to keep this short but my main thing was to answer this: Why was I wait listed, what did my application look like when i submitted it and what is lacking? Does my application stand out? How can I make it stand out more? What specifically about me and my work experience is unique and is something that can make the class of 2017 stronger?
I then addressed these holes and focused the next 4 months of my job on filling in these gaps. In February i had the program manager write a rec stating the projects I have worked on, the $$ saved, and the hours saved as a result of my work. It also helped he was a USC MBA grad and could say, "When you accepted me to your program I was far less qualified and showed less leadership abilities." I am sure that helped.
In early March I submitted a essay/letter which spoke about all the changes made since my application in October and interview in November. I will spare you all the details but I was very specific about the awards I won, the changes made to the company as a result of my work, and reputation I have made for myself. The company also gave me substantial stock options which provided validation of all my claims and accomplishments. Toward the end of my letter (which was only about 600 or so words) I was very specific about what I want to bring to the MBA class of 2017. I mean VERY VERY Specific. I think this helped them see the value i can bring to the class of 2017 and what makes me unique. Being too general in how you sell yourself does not make you stand out from the crowd.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.
