Marxist theorists believe that the interests of the working class ultimately align with those of humanity in general. They claim that those who control the means of production are able to unfairly subject the working class to substandard working conditions and wages, while extorting the maximum possible prices for their products from consumers. Marxists therefore believe that if the working classes controlled the economic system, then__________.

A. The owners of the means of production could not be depended upon to charge as much as necessary for their products to enable the owners to pay a fair working wage to laborers.

The owners are the workers and they can be depended on to not overwork the working class and be depended on to charge a fair price. False

B. Market forces would cause the most successful commercial entities to monopolize the market.

Irrelevant

C. Consumer goods would be less expensive.

This can be inferred from the statement.

D. The free market would favor producers who are able to provide the highest quality product at the lowest possible price.

Nothing about quality in question stem

E. Communist methods of production and distribution would still not replace the capitalist system, despite its costs to the working class.

Communist methods would replace the capitalist system. False anyways

Based on the keyword "therefore" in the last sentence we are looking to complete the conclusion of the passage. Therefore everything that comes before the last sentence should be a premise. The sentences can be summarized for better digestion into the following:

1st sen (Premise)= Interest of working class are aligned with humanity in general. WC=HIG

2nd sen (Premise)= He who controls production can exploit working class AND charge highest prices M= E & HP (Note: the theorists imply that the working class is not in charge of production which is why they are workers and not managers) (M= managers, the opposite of working class)
Assumption: Exploiting the working class and charging the highest prices for goods are not in the best interest of working class.

3rd sen (Conclusion)= If the working class controls economic system then .... You can completely turn around the equation in the 2nd sentence. If not M = then not E and not HP.

Premise :Marxist theorists believe that the interests of the working class ultimately align with those of humanity in general.
Further mentioned about typical profit centered owner {'baniya" industry as we call it !!! :) }.
Conclusion: So according to marxists, if the working classes controlled the economic system, then every one in general who are affected by production units like consumers, labours etc will have good time humanity you see.... (at least on papers)

1. This option is simply doubting the ability of working class to run the production unit without exploiting either labours or consumers. It says if the cost of the product is reduced then workers will not get paid enough or made to work extended hours.(Lets say more than OSHA's recommended working hours per week ;) )

On the contrary Argument implies that previous owner extract more/maximise profit by exploiting both the workers and the consumers. So marxists believe to bring joy to both ( consumers and workers).
This statement does not holds true.

2.blah blah ..... let the successful monopolize who else will ..... no relevance.

3. Hmmm this conclusion will certainly make Marxists happy .......

4. Too much of additional info free market , quality ........................ Irrelevant.

5. Communists ?? Now from where did they appear nothing mentioned about them in argument ??...................... Scrap it !!

C. The part that justifies this answer choice is, "while extorting the maximum possible prices for their products from consumers."

If working classes controlled the economic system, the wages will be high, leading to high production cost, which will also increase the consumer price . So, how the OA is C?

Simply there is no any possible answer other than C.
Yes, your logic is right, but it is overthinking.

Now. Those who control the means pay a small wages (bad for workers) and extort maximum prices.

If working class is in charge, than wages will be higher (maybe a little) and prices will be lower (maybe a little).
Because
interests of the working class ultimately align with those of humanity in general - it is done in the passge.
So C sounds good.
