I gave my first attempt at GMAT focus today and got 655, and while I am considering a re attempt, I wanted to know which colleges I can considering sending my application to for MiM.
I completed my bachelor's in Production and Industrial Engineering in 2023 with a GPA of 3.73/5.0. While I don't have any full time work work experience I have internship experience in the field of Marketing and as an analyst in Fixed Income Markets (both of them being for a period of 6 months each).
In terms of extra curricular activities, I was involved in the organisation and management of several events organised by the college society I was a part of (Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell) and was also a member of the executive body of the society. I also worked on a couple projects but they were a part of my college curriculum.
Based on this, realistically, which colleges can I consider?

Hi prajjwal_verma

Congratulations on the 655 GMAT FE Score. What was your score split for Quant/Verbal and DI?

Moreover, what are your post-MIM goals?

Understanding these things is important to recommend schools to you.

My score distribution was Q81 V85 DI80. Quant has always been my strongest suite so I was surprised by this score and that's why I am considering retaking GMAT.
I wish to pursue MiM with specialization in the field of finance, and ideally, I would like to build a career in the field of investment banking. Currently I am looking into the B Schools in Europe since they apparently have the best MiM programmes. However if there are better programmes outside Europe that I can get into, I'd be willing to consider them too.

Another thing that I wanted to know was about the varying length of MiM programmes across various B Schools, which range from 10 months to 2 years. I wanted to know how important these tenures can be and how much priority I should give to them when selecting colleges.

@prajjwal_verma - some thoughts and clarifications:

1. What was your undergrad pedigree e.g. Tier 1, Tier 2? And which companies were your internship experiences in - global, large/ small sized?

2. Your GMAT score is kind-of borderline for some top MiM programs, and a higher score will increase chances. When are you planning your retake i.e. are you looking at Round 1 deadlines?

3. Top MiM programs along with their class profiles and key stats are here. Shortlisting programs will require a deeper discussion on your skills, experiences, goals and priorities.

4. I recently worked with a candidate, with similar post-MiM goals (in consulting/ IB), who got into the ESSEC MiM. His success story and insights are here

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out through the links below for a deeper chat.

Hello everyone !

Work experience :

- 6 months internship at Ernst & Young as a Financial Auditor, and selected for a 4 weeks mission in Qatar with a Top Client (only intern selected out of ~100).
- 3+ years as a Strategy Consultant in the "Junior Company" of my school, earned the positions of Senior Consultant, Head of Training, Project Manager, General Secretary and was later elected as the third Senior Project Manager in the history of the Junior Company.

Extra :

- I've been swimming for ~15 years now and I'm member of a club out of the University.
- Active member of UNICEF since 2021.
- Active member of Emmaüs France since 2022 (I work there every summer).
- President and Co-Founder of an association that was in nearly every Uni in France during the last Presidential elections.
- Passionate about Gemstones (I'm a Goblin haha), and I've been traveling a lot just to find some !

Test Scores :

- 8 IELTS
- 331/340 GRE (164 V 167 Q)

Languages :

- French and English (C2)
- Mandarin (HSK 3 passed !)
- German (B1 verified)
- Spanish (B1 verified)

Others :

- Many certifications (Geopolitics, Finance, Strategy, Excel, Maths,...)
- Won some Business competitions at ESSEC (Awarded Special Jury Prize).
- Got strong LoRs from Partner, SM,M, and teachers.

And that's about all I can give you right now !

Hope you can help me with that 😄

I finished my bachelor's from a tier 2 college (Punjab Engineering College)
My first internship experience (in marketing) was in a startup which had an employee size of 100-150 at that time. My second one (in Fixed Income Markets) was in a large firm which itself was a subsidiary of a foreign company.

I am considering a re-attempt within the next 2-3 weeks.

Hi there ! If someone could help me evaluate my profile I would be grateful

Schools : Essec , Escp , HEC , LBS , Insead
GRE : 328
GPA : 3.35(converted)(also it's very tough to get a high GPA in any law courses in NLU'S)
Course : Law Student in his 4th year from a Top 10 National Law University
Internships : 6 in total (These are from top law firms in India )
Extra -Co : 1 year of NGO Volunteering (got promoted to leader recently ) , various blogs based on legal scenario in India posted on reputed law blog websites , head of a committee in my college , several MUN'S , research based projects
Recommendations : Could get one from a CFO of a Huge Company (Think about Indian car manufacturers ) ,

Do Mim Schools consider diversity as not many law students apply for management courses ?
Secondly would my GPA be a hinderence

@Wizard2609 - some thoughts on your profile:

1. Your GRE (assuming a balanced sectional split) is good, and can potentially compensate for the GPA. Some schools like LBS tend to overindex academics, though, but most consider a holistic angle. Would like to understand your profile and preferences deeper to shortlist programs. FYI, a list of top MiM programs are here with all details

2. Would like to understand your internship experiences better to assess: what roles/ functions did you cover, key achievements, skillsets gained, etc. Linking these to your post-MiM goals and having a sharp narrative on how the MiM would help you transition, is crucial.

3. Extracurriculars sound great, and can present interesting angles for essays.

4. Regarding recommendations, your degree of proximity (i.e. how close you've worked with them, and how specific they can be in the anecdots and details they share) is more important than their title/ seniority per se.

Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

@aditya318 - there are some interesting angles on your profile. Go through this article (with inputs from an MiM alum) which covers key angles on how you can build a strong profile and best approach the MiM application journey.

Feel free to schedule a 20-min chat with me to discuss specifics.

Hi There! Thank you so much for the valuable feedback. 1) Roles in my Internship - I mostly targeted the corporate side of law. My main area was Mergers and Acquisitions and my internships stayed consistent with my sector as all of them were in Mergers and Acquisitions. Now, coming to my post-MIM- goals it would largely be Finance (Investment Banking, Private Equity etc etc). Due to my internships in M&A, I have a basic idea about all the formalities and ideas. 2) More towards my school shortlistings I would be targeting only these schools per se. I do not wish to attend any schools below HEC, ESSEC  & ESCP as according to me opportunities in India would be better than any schools below the 3 main Grande Ecoles. Thirdly I wish to get an insight on this question. "I see that very few lawyers apply for Mim or any other management courses per se. Does that give me an advantage since the pool of law students would be abate compared to Engineers or Undergrad Business Degrees?

Wizard2609 - Merely belonging to the lawyer pool wouldn't give you an advantage. Similarly, merely belonging to the engineer pool wouldn't give you a disadvantage by itself.

The quality of your academic (GMAT/ GRE, undergrad grades etc.) and professional experience i.e. what you learned, what you worked on, which skillsets you gained, how these tie to your career goals, and a strong overall narrative, will give you the advantage.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I hope you guys are doing well.

I am 24 years old(will be 25 when I enter a BSchool) Indian male.

High School(10th) Percentage: 86%

Intermediate(12th) Percentage: 86%

Then took a year gap to prepare for the IITJEE examination where I scored 98+ percentile.

Did Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Jabalpur with 8.0/10 CGPA.

In college, I participated for over a year in an initiative of our college where I used to teach the underprivileged kids from nearby villages(I don't have any proof of it but I might have some photos of it).

When it comes to sports I had represented and won 2 medals(for running events) in the interIIIT sports meets where over 31 colleges from around India participate. I have also participated and completed a half marathon and I intend to compete in the prestigious Indira Gandhi Full Marathon by this November.

In college, I lead a team in a fabrication interdisciplinary project on "Electricity Usage Prediction using Deep Learning" under a professor.
During my 8th semester I interned as a software developer in a High Frequency Trading firm, which later gave me a full-time opportunity. I worked in that company for about 11 months and then left the job because I found my interest in the business management side and that was something I wanted to excel in. Since the last 2 months I have taken up the responsibility as Store Manager of my mother's shop(I withdraw salary from the business so that I can show that as my business experience). It is a small business but offers a good learning curve.

Side by side I have started preparing for GMAT which I intend to give by the end of July. In mocks I am scoring somewhere around 655.

I am mostly trying for Masters in Management or MSc Business Analytics from European countries for September 2025 intakes.
I will be really thankful if someone could evaluate my profile

Hey guys,
I'm a 24 year old male from India. I've done my bachelors in Electrical Engineering. My GPA is 7.3/10.
My GMAT Focus score is 685 (Q86, V82, DI84)
I have 1.5 years of corporate experience currently and I'm working currently in an MNC.
I have leadership and volunteering experience, I have led quite a few clubs ( E-Cell and Adventure club) during my engineering. I also have international experience, I've been a University Innovation Fellow (Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, Stanford Uni) and have attended the annual meetup in Stanford Uni.

I wanna work in core finance post my masters.
I am looking to apply during the round 1 in october 2024 for the intake of 2025 for Masters in Management in France or UK

I also have international experience, I've been a University Innovation Fellow (Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, Stanford Uni) and have attended the annual meetup in Stanford Uni.
I developed interest for finance, in order to get familiarised with finance, I've taken up the CMA USA (Certified Management Accountant) exam which is in december. I want to take up CFA in the near future too.
I wanna work in core finance post my masters.
I am looking to apply during the round 1 in october 2024 for the intake of 2025 for Masters in Management in France or UK

Hello, @NAD7777777

Your profile is strong and diverse. You have a solid academic foundation with a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and a GMAT Focus score of 685 . Your 1.5 years of corporate experience, leadership roles in the E-Cell and Adventure Club, and international exposure as a University Innovation Fellow at Stanford highlight your leadership abilities. Your pursuit of the CMA USA and plans to take the CFA exam show your commitment to finance, which is a valuable asset for MiM programs. Applying in Round 1 for the October 2024 intake in France or the UK is smart. Emphasize your leadership and international experiences in your essays and interviews to further strengthen your application.

If you have any further questions related to your profile or want to have a 1:1 discussion with our top profile experts, feel free to schedule a complimentary profile evaluations session with our experts . Hello NAD7777777

I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Coming to your profile, your engineering background and a 685 GMAT are decent. Your leadership experience in clubs is a great plus, especially if you can showcase how you made a positive impact. Plus, that international experience as a University Innovation Fellow is pretty unique.

It's fantastic that you're taking the initiative to learn more about finance with the CMA USA exam (good luck for that). Considering your interest in core finance post-graduation, highlighting those finance aspirations and the CMA will be key in your application.

Aim for a well-rounded application. We can definitely delve deeper into specific schools if you're interested. Just let us know and we can connect about how to best position your profile for each program.

Hey guys,
I'm a 24 year old male from India. I've done my bachelors in Electrical Engineering. My GPA is 7.3/10.
My GMAT Focus score is 685 (Q86, V82, DI84)

NAD7777777 - HEC alum here. Some thoughts and queries:

1. Your GPA and GMAT are good. Which undergrad university did you attend?

2. Would like to understand your work-ex better i.e. what roles/ functions have you worked in, key achievements, skill-sets you've gained, etc. Having a strong narrative covering these angles and your motivation for an MiM would be crucial.

3. Your post-MiM goal needs more clarity and direction. While the CMA and CFA (potential) are good angles, I'm unable to see (yet) a strong case for your motivation towards Finance roles, and specifically which domains/ subfunctions. Perhaps discussions on point 2 (above) would help clarify this.

4. Details and stats of top MiM programs are here. Choosing the right program would involve discussions considering factors such as these.

Hope this helps.  If you'd like to connect, drop me a line here

As an FYI, check out the success journey and insights from my mentee who (also with post-MiM goals in Finance) got into ESSEC MiM
