MIT Sloan MBA Video

Question

Hi,

For the Sloan MBA video statement, it says no edit, single take. However when I search youtube, everyone has music in the background, edits (photos, mix of videos).

Are we allowed to do these stuffs at all? Or shall I not even add my name and subtitles in the video?

Be careful, several of the movies on the internet are older. The adcom stated that people sometimes overdid the edits, locations etc. to the point of sacrificing audio or content.

I did mine in a single shot with a webcam. No editing at all.

Please take a minute to introduce yourself to your future classmates via video. Include a bit on your past experience and why MIT Sloan is the best place for you to pursue your MBA.

In addition, their website has a short video in which they provide some additional information.

You´d probably provide some of the following information;

Name and where you from
Current job (pre MBA experience)
Hobbies/Passion/ECs
Reason for coming to Sloan

It is just one minute and you are introducing yourself to your classmats, thus I´d advice against using overly formal and scripted language.

You may want to consider a slightly different angle to help you differentiate yourself. The video should definitely be more casual as an icebreaker of sorts.

Keep in mind, MIT Sloan is also asking for a cover letter, which tends to be more formulaic about your career to date and post-MBA as well as your interest in the school. The video is more of an inviting component as the spirit of the format is all about how you would introduce yourself in a social setting to your friends/classmates.
