Dont know what is happening with me. while attemping questions at home i am acing it but what is happening at the test.?
I had self studied for three months. I was gunning for atleast 720 to stand a chance with current applicant pool.Started with the basics and improved gradually.Solved Og and gmatclub questions.
On gmatclub I was able to solve verbal questions with relatively good accuracy and my workbook score was 41 for verbal.I also took 800 score mocks but was ranging from 30-35 in verbal.
Then , after tweaking my strategy and learning from my mistakes I took Gmatprep1 and scored 710(v38, q48). Confident with my verbal, i started practising tough quant questions to get a score of 50-51.Practiced hard and then went for my first attempt.Gave my first Gmat on 11 dec 2017 and scored 600(49,23).Shivers went down my spine and i was hugely dissapointed.Cancelled my score and went home.
With R2 deadlines approaching i booked the exam for today i.r 31st dec and started studying hard ,focussing mostly on verbal.Gave Gmatprep2 a couple of days back after studying for 2.5 weeks.
Scored 720(q49,v39). I gave my mocks simulating actual exam.I was happy and confident this time now.
So, I have just stepped out of the center with 560(q49,v18). I was so sure that i would get atleast 35.This attempt went better than last time.I was confident and happy after verbal section.
I am shocked, dissapointed, demotivated and tired now.
I dont know what happened there.
I need help. Now that R2 deadlines are gone down the drain,i am looking forward to R3 which is 2 months away. So i have 45 days to better from v18 to 40. I am ready to give 10/12 hours a day.Ill manage with my work schedule.Thats no issue, bit V40 is what I want.
Please suggest what should I do. I am lost now.I gave my 100%. But everytime I try,I fall flat on the ground.Need some motivation and tips.
Thank you

Hi Micky1005,

The last posts about your studies were 2 months ago, so I'd like to know a bit more about how you've been studying during that time:

1) What study materials have you used so far?
2) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

In addition, when these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. As such, I have a few questions about how you took your CATs:

1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you took your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE (re: in an online forum or in a practice set)?

1) What study materials have you used so far? OG17 (Verbal, quant and the main book), GmatClub, Manhatten for sc,cr(older version)
2) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
800 score 1- 640(q47,v31)
800 Score 2-660(q48,v33)
800 score 3-700(q49,v35)
GMATPrep 1-710(q48,38)
GMATprep2-700(q47v39)

In addition, when these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. As such, I have a few questions about how you took your CATs:

1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)? Skipped AWA and IR. Always attempted quant first and then verbal. Followed the same strategy for actual GMAT.
2) Did you take them at home? yes
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you took your Official GMAT? No, I usually started at midnight.
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)? I never took breaks during mocks. Skipped IR and AWA mostly.
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE (re: in an online forum or in a practice set)? one or two at GMATclub. I have used gmatclub extensively. I have attempted almost 1700 questions till date

Hi Micky1005,

From your prior post, there were a couple of 'red flags' in terms of how you took your CATs. Before we discuss those issues though, I have a few additional questions about the lead-up to Test Day and Test Day itself:

1) What did you do in the 3 days before your GMAT?
2) How did you sleep the night before your Test?
3) How long was the ride to the Test Center from your home?
4) Were there any distractions at the facility or during the Test?
5) What did you do during the two 8-minute breaks?
6) Did you finish any sections early?
7) Did you have to rush to finish any sections (and guess on questions just to finish on time)?
