Hi All,
I'm a current 1st year at Owen and figured I'd share my experiences relating to a few of the latest posts on the board.
In my opinion, thisisatest is spot on: Owen does well in placing students at consulting and IB firms considering its size and that we are not an M7 school.
In consulting, Deloitte has a heavy presence on campus throughout the year (we are a core school for them) and usually takes at least 6-8 students FT every year. While the absolute number is low, the percentage is in line with several higher ranked schools. North Highland and CapGemini also take several students per year, and, finally, BCG is considering expanding their presence on campus as well (2 interns were taken this year from a relatively small group of applicants). Top students who are willing to do the leg work are also often rewarded with offers from other top firms.
I'm less familiar with banking (I'm a recovering consultant), but know that we are core for Citi and routinely place people in both IB and PWM roles at Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, JP Morgan, SunTrust, and Bank of America.
Tech firms like Adobe, Amazon, Cisco, and Microsoft (and, potentially next year, Apple) have also caught on and begun recruiting multiple students per year from Owen.
From what I understand, the admissions process and career services team were both revamped three or four years ago and those changes have begun paying off in terms of better class profiles, career placements, etc.
I locked up my internship with a tech firm early in school year through on campus recruiting but knew several people who went outside of OCR and were able to score some terrific internships with firms that don't traditionally come to campus. For hard working and intelligent students who are willing to network and do a bit more of the legwork, lack of an on-campus presence shouldn't be a deterrent. If I end up venturing back into consulting next year, I'll probably look at several boutiques and am confident I could land an offer from at least one.
All the best and feel free to PM me with questions.
