Re: Fuqua Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hi GJ12

You seem to have an interesting profile! Your work experience in Ireland would be definitely unique and can be a good fodder for many interesting essays/ stories :)

It's good to see that you are planning to go for a 2nd MBA but some US b-schools are not very open to candidates who have already pursued an MBA degree. Duke Fuqua also seemed to have such policies in the past. So, I suggest you speak to them directly and understand their perspective on your profile.

I have helped many Indian students who've gone to top US schools after completing PGDM from India. There are various programs that will value your previous masters degree. :)

If you are looking for more personalized service for your MBA application feel free to get in touch with me at mail@vibranture.com.

Good luck!

Hi Ayushii23
Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations
My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy here at ARINGO

Let’s start with the strengths
- Good academics (university and GPA)Working for two big4s (hopefully with big and famous clients) and 1-2 promotions along the way is great!
- International clients (or working with EY US team) is also good!
(the fact that your cross-cultural interactions were virtual is not an issue)
Nice volunteering!
The unknown
- GMAT…
- Other extra-curricular stuff…
- School wish list?
The less good
- There are thousands of big 4 audit candidates – how do you differentiate yourself from them?
Career goals
- Have you done any redtail projects? If not, this would seem like an odd choice, and “regular” strategy consulting makes more sense, unless I am missing a family business or a passion you didn’t share

All in all, sounds like you have a solid profile! So, a lot will be up to the GMAT and the apps…

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps if you send me your CV and any other info to Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!

Hi kumar Utkarsh,

Your profile looks amazing with many great leadership experiences. Your navy background would definitely give you an edge in terms of diversity and presenting a unique story. I can see you have a great blend of hard and soft skills with huge impacts of yours. Your work exhibits a very diverse experience and knowledge in a range of functions. I can see a great leader in you especially by your experience of leading a multinational cross-functional team and your great experiences during college. So, overall your experience can definitely help you stand out and exhibit a strong leader if you are able to communicate it right.

Your acads seem good with many certifications in and outside of work and GMAT as well seems alright considering your background. Your ECs and community service shows a collaborative, empathetic leader and I think leaves no doubt about your potential of securing a position in a global school like Fuqua. Overall, yours is an impressive profile with a vibrant personality and make sure you exhibit this in your applications. But there are many unknowns here like your motivations of pursuing an MBA (you need very strong and relevant reasons for an MBA because this will be a total shift in your career and life), your post-MBA goals, other schools that you wish to target and if your goals fit for an MBA in Fuqua. We are delighted to hear your story and get a better picture of your overall profile to guide you in understanding what Fuqua or other schools want. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Hi ad18,

Your stats seem good with a great GMAT. Your work experience, on the surface, looks great as well with considerable international experience. Overall, your profile does tick all the boxes but it does not seem like a very unique profile and considering your background, you will have to put extra intelligent efforts in bringing a unique application. Similarly, your post-MBA goals do not look like you have put great thought in it (I can be absolutely wrong about it since I am missing many details and a big picture to assess your profile). So, according to my analysis here, I suggest you ponder, first, over questions like why do you want to do MBA, how it will help in making a leap in your career, what can be the options you should consider post-MBA to make that leap. Answering these starter questions will help better in choosing the right schools to apply and making your profile unique in terms of how YOU can contribute to those schools.

If you'd like we are happy to discuss your profile at length and guide you comprehensively to make your apps and story unique and can help you get in touch with successful admits having a similar or near-to-similar profile as yours (we have candidates with over-represented pools and many gaps in their profile making it to top programs. Read Testimonials). Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi wishalsp333,

Your stats and work-ex seem fine, based on the details you have provided. But being an Indian male engineer, you are going to face very tough competition and so you need extra efforts in making your apps stand out. Talking about ECs, they seem outdated but I liked your community involvement now. Let me tell you this, for Fuqua, you really need not move big huge mountains in your life (though you do need to exhibit your potential for the program) but you need to own your story and be clear-headed about why do you need an MBA, what are your long-term aspirations and how a school (here, Fuqua) can help you achieve it. And you need to answer these questions to yourself before anyone else to really make yourself believe that you are a good fit for your target schools. This will also help you know how your past experience is relevant in pursuing an MBA, your post-MBA goals and how Fuqua (or any other school) is a good fit for you.

If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call with you to have a good discussion around your profile. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Re: Fuqua Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hi Nitikamehta1993

I am an MBA alumna from Ross Michigan and as an MBA Admissions Consultant from New Delhi, I have helped several Indian students get admitted to various top MBA programs including Duke Fuqua (with scholarship). I would be happy to comment on your profile :)

So a few things:
1. You have a good and unique professional background and seems like your achievements are noteworthy. Your work with Fortune 500 clients is also impressive and would help connecting dots with your post-MBA goals. The CFA will get you added points which will be helpful considering your GMAT is slightly less than desirable for your target schools.

2. Your extracurricular seem nice, but for a school like Duke you really need to highlight your multi-dimensional personality and characteristics. Some of the other schools on your list - Kellogg, Ross and Cornell are also very high on cultural fit - so you need to highlight that through your essays and LORs.

3. You also need to demonstrate strong interest in the school. Duke, Kellogg, CBS, Cornell, Booth are very particular about how much you want to be part of their community. For this you will need to do extensive research about the program, connect with students/alums and present your passion for the school in your application essays and interview.

If you need personalized help with your application, feel free to reach me directly at mail@vibranture.com :)

Hi Vikas213,

You do have a competitive profile. Your stats are great with many notable achievements.

Your work brings many good elements. In your training period, you got exposed to different industries, had some international exposure and included a stint as a leader too. Post-training, a great career trajectory and now you are holding a managerial position. Clearly, you have a good impact with huge responsibilities. But, for the resume, I suggest you be less technical and talk about the projects in a way that clearly demonstrates your leadership potential and your impact.

Your ECs look good as well. Do talk about the society you co-founded and your mentorship experience now and how many children it impacted. Fuqua is very considerate about having a positive and robust impact on the community. Also, Fuqua looks for a vibrating, interesting personality. So, make sure you bring out this in your apps.

Also, for your long-term goals, I do understand your motivation of pursuing a career in the sports industry but I want to know why you do not make this pivot right after MBA? Also, why TMT? If you'd like, we are happy to hop on a call with you to discuss your profile at length and help you understand the schools better. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi there,

At the first glance itself, your profile stands out with exemplary achievements under your belt. Your undergraduate score of 86.7% from one of the top undergraduate colleges definitely adds an extra feather to your hat since these B-schools are notorious for selecting applicants from the top 10 colleges of their respective countries. Moreover, you have a 710 GMAT score under your credit which again is a testament of your academic capabilities and will allow you to target most of the top-notch B-schools. Most importantly, you have completed your chartered accountant articleship of 3 years which is an impressive feat and further solidifies your chances of acceptance into the top B-schools.

Talking about your work experience, you definitely have an upper-hand since you have worked in one of the big four firms for a duration of 3 years which sets you at par with your competitors as these B-schools are mostly looking for profiles that have big brand names attached to them. Here, you have also worked with international clients which is always an added advantage as it highlights your broadened perspective and communication skills. You have also gained professional experience at Bharti Airtel which is again a very reputed brand in its own right. To enhance your profile further, you can talk about how you were able to add value to your company through various projects, what skills you gained, and what you’ve learned in the process. This can prove to differentiate your profile from similarly qualified applicants.

Furthermore, your participation in extracurricular activities is equally important as it will showcase a holistically developed profile which is what the schools are looking for. Needless to say, you definitely possess a strong hold on your extracurricular activities as you have been part of various CSR activities, volunteering activities and also you’ve held important positions in your college society. However, you can add more value to your profile by digging deeper into the various endeavors you undertook and how you went above and beyond to excel in the same. Here you have mentioned that you co-founded a society in your college, however you can further amplify the endeavour by elaborating on the kind of events you organized, duties you performed, and most importantly highlight what were your major takeaways. All in all, these skills testify for you being a great leader, an aspect that can automatically impress the adcoms.

Now coming to the schools that you can target, since you have mentioned that you want to get admission in the MBA program, I would suggest you to target a good mix of dream and competitive schools to hedge your bets wisely.

Under the dream category( 50% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as NYU, DUKE, CORNELL, HEC, LBS and IMPERIAL.

Under the competitive category( 70-80% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as MANNHEIM, WHU, USC MARSHALL, UCD TCD and FSFM.

All said and done, while you have a good profile, there will be thousands of applicants out there with similarly great profiles and this is where your application would play a huge role on your chances of bagging an admit as it carries 30% of an impact on your chances of acceptance.

Thus, if you are wondering and contemplating as to how to create a pitch perfect application, you can check out our All in One service through which you can leverage complete end to end application consulting to build a comprehensive and personalized application. Most importantly, we will help you to build your application in a way that provides proper justifications of your strengths and weaknesses which are an integral part of your essay and LOR, thus, avoiding room for any kind of ambiguity in your application from your side. We’ve helped 2500+ applicants get into their dream schools so far, and we’d love for you to be next!

Hey there,

You definitely have a great profile!

Starting with the strong suits in your profile, you have completed 2 levels of CFA with 90+ percentile and have also completed all levels of Chartered Accountancy, this is exceptionally good as it showcases your strong academic prowess. However, your percentage in B.Com is a bit on the lower end, but you can pose the right alibi and divert attention towards other aspects in your profile such as your extracurricular activities, projects, internships, and GMAT.

Coming to your professional front, you have got great brands in your CV, 3 years with KPMG in Risk consulting domain, 1 year with Diageo in Finance Controllership role, and many other impactful projects. As top B-schools tend to favour candidates who have got experience from the Big-4 firms, you stand at par with the kind of competition you’ll be facing, thus, to differentiate yourself, you ought to highlight the major projects done and how these experiences have helped you develop and further groom your skills. Make sure to highlight why you chose these firms, how you have gone above and beyond this role, and overall portray the knowledge gained from these experiences.

Moving on to your extracurricular activities, your volunteering experiences vouch for the socially responsible traits in your personality which B-schools tend to favour as they’re on the hunt for great future leaders. You can emphasize how you have helped the ones in need, what were your responsibilities, impacts created, and your major takeaways. Elaborating on these details will showcase a holistically developed profile.

Talking about your GMAT, 720 (Q50 V38 IR7) is remarkable as with this score you can target most of the top schools in the world. On this note, to categorise your school choices, all of them come under the dream and upper competitive category.

Since these schools have a stringent acceptance rate, your chances of acceptance is around 50-60% at these schools. Having said that, being cognizant about the competition, it is always a good idea to go for a mixed bunch of dream and competitive schools to hedge your bets wisely. Thus, here are some school suggestions in the competitive category that you can look at:
COMPETITIVE CATEGORY: Mc Cain, USC Marshall, Berkeley, UBC, Concordia, Cass Business School, Texas , Fordham, Kelley

Lastly, while you have a stellar profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to complement your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!

To chalk out a winning strategy, I would suggest you to take up our FREE Consultation through which our expert consultants can figure out the best course of action for you to magnify your strengths and overshadow any particular weaknesses in your profile.
