STEM MBA in USA: Top Programs and their Requirements

When you graduate from a regular MBA program, you are given 12 months to find an employer who will sponsor your stay beyond that period. However, with a STEM-MBA, students can take advantage of the fairly lenient rules and work for up to 3 years after graduation, before requiring the H1-B visa.

Consider the MSTeM (Management Science and Technology Management) program offered by Duke FUQUA School of Business as an example here. Apart from the regular curriculum, taking an additional 8 courses (data-driven, technical), will result in a STEM-Certified MBA degree. The program offers electives such as STEM MBA in USA

Hi chinmayrav

- Your ECA is excellent and your acads are really good too. GMAT is decent at 710 as well.
- At 2 years of experience, you are on the lower side of the work experience spectrum. Therefore showing maturity and learning is critical in your apps.
- You are applying from the Indian IT Male category, which is super-competitive. Will need to build solid apps to differentiate yourself. One of the good things going for you is that your GMAT is well above the averages of your target schools listed above, and that will help.
- The career goals you mention seem to be a bit off, unless you have some flavor of sales/BD in your current profile already. Else, moving from IT to pure-play marketing is going to be hard, especially in a foreign country.
- In terms of your target schools, you should have excellent chances at #2,4, and 5. For #3 (Sauder), it is your essays and app that matter more than the GMAT, but decent chances there as well. For #1 (Rotman), the journey will be a bit challenging, as Rotman looks at professional diversity and ECA as key factors. While you are quite strong at the latter, the former does not offer much differentiation.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

How Important are MBA Campus Visits During Application?

MBA campus visits are increasingly becoming popular. It is not without reason that more people are choosing to do this every year. Undertaking a campus visit will get you those extra brownie points! This is provided you ensure that the Ad Com committee is informed of your visit. Schools are aware that students who visit the campus are more likely to sign up for the program than the ones who do not visit. Therefore, they ( admission committee) will go to great lengths to appeal to the interests of the candidate. But what do you do on a campus visit? Read on

Hi Gyanone team!

Would love a profile evaluation from you.
Indian female
Age 28
Chartered accountant
X std 93% (GPA 4)
XII std 88% (GPA 4)
Graduation 86% (GPA 4)

Best article award during first year of articleship in top 5 accounting firms in india

2 years work experience in EY in corporate and international taxation where I was extensively involved in restructuring taxation models for Indian counterparts of telecom companies abroad and did lot of tax compliance and litigation related work.

1 year 8 months as taxation manager in another company- compliance, litigation and tax advisory role.

Left it to pursue a job in government sector.
Now working as an administrative officer accounts specialist in one of the 4 general insurance PSUs in India since a year.I am handling the coinsurance business of more than Rs 500 crore for my regional office.

On extra curricular front, I have been one of the few Indian delegates at the Harvard Project for Asian and International relations (HPAIR) held in Hongkong in 2016 in the Humanitarian tracks.
I have learnt lot of different dance styles and had my own belly dance classes for a while.

I want to apply for the one year MBA programs next year as my experience would be over 5 years and I would like to move out of government sector to core strategy roles.

Would love some insights on my profile and my chances at IIMA, IIMB, IIMC, IIML, SPJIMR, ISB and some European schools like LBS, Oxford , INSEAD etc.

Planning to take GMAT in next couple of months with expected score 700+ (Aiming 730) and will only apply if I get 720+. I had scored 700 in 2016 GMAT .

Hi Bhavz10

Thanks for posting and congratulations on all the hard work you have done to build your profile in the past few years.
- Overall, even with a 700, you are well set to apply to these schools. The important part here will be your application and what you do in it.
- Your academics are pretty solid, and combined with your work in EY, and your overall extra-curricular activities, make for a solid profile.
- It is your PSU work that may be a bit of a lost opportunity - not at the Indian schools - but at places such as LBS and INSEAD. Oxford remains a possibility, with a strong app.
- In terms of your schools, possibly drop IIML from the list. Consider retaking the GMAT only if you are particular about applying to INSEAD (and if you do, please ensure you spend enough time on the app, as you do not have international experience).

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hello All
MY GMAT journey isn't as joyful as it may be for others . I have given 7 attempts of GMAT with a highest Score of 680 . (Q48, V35 IR-4).
Rejected by Schools this year : Rice with interview, Kelly Indiana , Notre dame, UNC, Tepper , ISB and NTU without even interview.

My question is whether the 680 GMAT score such an abysmal score that i can't get a college in top 30 schools. I have moved towards GRE now but continuing my exam anxiety i don't know how much i will be able to score.

Moreover I request to kindly shed some light on my profile.
I have attached my one page CV and expect some genuine insights.

Hi StrugglingGmat2910

Thanks for posting. Here is what we feel (went through your resume as well):
- Overall, with decent applications, you should have at least been interviewed by ND, ISB, and NTU. Tepper, UNC, Kelley may have been a bit ambitious to begin with.
- The issue seems to therefore be a bit with school selection and a bit with the strength of your applications.
- Dont move tests just because you feel you did not do as well as you could have in the GMAT earlier. Move only because you feel that you can do better at the GRE, after having thoroughly analyzed it.
- As of now, focus on enhancing your test score, and as most of your target schools are now closed for admissions, focus on them for next year.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

SP JAIN PGPM INTERVIEWS AND ESSAYS | HOW TO CRACK THEM?

The SPJIMR PGPM program
The SPJIMR PGPM application and interview process is both challenging and comprehensive. Over the years, the PGPM program for experienced professionals has become a very popular option among MBA applicants with 5 or more years of experience.

SP Jain PGPM admissions and applications
The admissions process for the SP Jain PGPM program is multi-layered. In the first, almost preliminary stage, applicants fill out a basic form along with their professional and academic details, and two essays. Within a few days, if shortlisted, they are required appear for an admissions interview.

SPJIMR PGPM admissions and deadlines
The SP Jain PGPM follows a rolling admissions process. Applicants usually hear back on their status for selection for the interview (the pre-selection stage) in around 2 weeks after they apply. Thereafter they must prepare for the interviews. ...SPJIMR PGPM

HOW MUCH DOES A TOP 10 MBA COST | WHAT MAKES THEM SO EXPENSIVE

Adding the letters ‘MBA’ against your name comes at a cost. Considering that your wallet will be a lot lighter when are done with the program, it makes sense to make that decision carefully. There are a number of ways to narrow down your search on how much does a top 10 MBA cost and and one of the ways is to follow rankings based on tuition fees.

Ivey Business School in Canada offers a detailed breakup of the kind of expenses you can incur when you enroll for the MBA program and the MBA course fees of $118,981 includes living expenses (includes possible expenses such as cell phone, movie expenses, and laundry too).

Components of the fee
Fees for the program (including tuition, transportation, books, and other costs): Let’s come to the most critical aspect of this conundrum! It is the all-important tuition costs. Tuition costs only form a part of the overall program fees. ...TOP 10 MBA
