Hello guys,
if someone wants to take the time toevaluate my strategy, please feel free!
I would be very thankfull.
So I started fulltime prepping for 2,5 months focused on quant. I read through the manhattan guide on quant and did lots of the
OG questions, but without any specific strategy. This helped me to build a solid foundation on some topics like geometry, percentages and ratios, probabilities and combinatorics. In other topics like algebra, number properties or equalities I still feel very unsafe. For verbal I only studied occasionally for RC and CR just by doing questions, since I feel very confident there. For SC I read the manhattan guide to get an idea of the concepts. After 2 months I started with mocks, did one every week:
1.
OG Mock: 610 (V31 Q43), 2nd try V41 Q48 (in quant I remembered questions)
2.
OG Mock: 610 (V34 Q39), 2nd try V40 Q48 (in quant I remembered questions)
Main takeaways from the Mocks were that I prone to careless mistakes especially in the begining. My time management in verbal improved, and I really made efforts in SC. In the first tries, my V score was mainly held down by poor SC success rate, CR and RC were very good. I also did not remeber any questions in verbal in the 2nd tries.
Since I only aim for above 650 or even only 600, I thought ill just let V cary my score and just try to concentrate in quant to not to careless mistakes on the easy questions.
And then I scored 560 Q39 V28. My main takeaways from ESR (can not attach yet, but I could send it) were:
* RC was a catastrophy , 7th percentile (didnt feel like it that during the test). I used a method that was both time consuming and lead to wrong answers: I read the question and searched for the answer in the passage. I dont know why I did that, I never did in the mocks or so. I have ADHD, maybe because of that. Also had to bail on the last 5 questions that were all RC due to time pressure.
* SC and CR werent good but okayish, not any critical situations there.
* In quant I did decent in the first and second quarter, something I paid attention to. Some questions that shouldve been easy though made me waste a lot of time, so I hasted through quarter 3-4, with bailing on the last 6(!) questions. I also didnt finish the quant part by myself but ran out of time.
I could say "RC was just a hickup and I will do better next time" but this does not feel good. I know now my quant prep without any system was very inefficient, I dont have enough routine in verbal to assure for a good score and my time management isnt good due to not enough scenarios like Mock tests.
My strategy is now: Get more routine in all verbals but mainly RC, systematically evaluate my strengths in quant regarding topics and completely rebuild my knowledge of concepts and strategies in every topic where I am not able to consistently get medium questions right. Also, I will get the 4
OG mock tests and do one every week. I am not time pressured since I would apply the earliest in September. However, I work right now and universities also there so I can dedicate 15 hrs max per week. What do you think, is my strategy sufficient? Have I missed anything? Do you think 1-1.5 months is enough? Id be glad if someone wants to help. Thank you very much!
