Hi,
I am wondering if you could evaluate whether I am competitive at some of my school choices and also what I could possibly do to make my profile even better?
The schools I will be applying to are:
1. Northwestern
2. Columbia
3. NYU
4. Cornell
5. Michigan
6. Ohio State
Please see my profile below.
Background and nationality: Male, White, US citizen, 25 years old.
Undergrad Information: BBA in finance from Ohio State with a 3.2 GPA ( I had one bad semester where I dealt with depression from the death of my best friend, dragging down my gpa. I plan to use the optional essay to explain this).
GMAT: 730 (Q 47, V 44, IR 6, AWA 6)
Work experience and leadership: At the time of applying, will be 5 years working as a financial analyst for a major bank with one promotion to intermediate analyst. In charge of a team of analysts based in India, led many projects, and have mentored some of the associates on my team.
Community and others: I have done some different volunteering activities but not through only one organization. Currently part of a mentoring program through Ohio State. Serving on the board of a non-profit Irish heritage organization (Even though I'm not Irish).
Post MBA goals: Wanting to either switch to investment banking or consulting.

Thank you for your post and for sharing your profile. Although your profile is competitive for the target schools, the reach schools (which will be more challenging to gain admission to) are the first three (3) on your list. You have a competitive GMAT score, which demonstrates to the AdCom that you are capable of handling the rigor; however, you must still address your lower than average GPA. You can discuss your GPA either in the optional essay or one of the other required essays (depending on where it makes most strategic sense). You do have strong community engagement and leadership experiences, so that will be a plus, provided you articulate it well.
At this stage, you want to focus on the qualitative component of the applications. You need to be authentic in telling each school who you are, and also where you are going (you will need to develop a clear goal for the latter). In your responses, you must also clearly articulate to each institution why they should admit you - why you belong there. This is all assuming you are applying for the intake 2019. I hope this helps.
