Every day I feel like schools will not accept me, and this idea keeps chasing me. I cannot sleep, and it seems like I am focusing too much on getting admitted to MBA or Masters's program. So I am asking you guys to evaluate my profile, and maybe this will at least make me feel less anxious.
Age: 23
Sex: Male
Nationality: Russian
GPA: 3,3
GMAT: 780
I graduated from a Swiss University where I transferred from UIC. I hold a BS in Finance.
Working Experience:
2018-2019 (Founder and CEO of a moving company (USA))
2020-present (Founder and the president of a charity foundation (Russia))
2020-2022 (Founder and CEO of an IT outsourcing company)
2021 (Investment Analyst Intern (4 months))
2022 (Financial Analyst (2 months project))
Volunteered for Catholic Charities, Junior Achievements Program, and Women's March.
Played basketball for European professional clubs (youth teams)
In the future, I want to create an International Launchpad for NGOs.
I am applying to all the Ivy League Schools, Stanford, Booth, Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, LBS, Imperial, and HEC.
Thank you.

It appears that your profile is good. In terms of statistics, your GMAT score is exceptional; it is uncommon to discover applicants with such a high score. Your GPA appears to be respectable as well.
It is impressive to see outstanding accomplishments at such a young age on the professional front. Your profile will gain value if you are a founder of several organisations, including the president of a charitable foundation. To properly flesh out your profile, you must demonstrate how you significantly impacted the company's operations and explicitly include occasions in which you took the initiative and guided your team through a challenging situation. As a result, I urge you to emphasise your job duties, noteworthy initiatives, customer service skills, and instances in which you displayed leadership and professional brilliance.
The ECs appear to be very standardised. ECs are crucial to both the success of your application and the admissions process in general. Try emphasising your key takeaways from your Catholic activities because you've already highlighted them. Engaging in social events shows the AdComs that you care about the community.
You must be specific when discussing your short- and long-term goals for your post-MBA aspirations in order to match them with the institutions you are aiming for. Since your objectives involve developing a launchpad for NGOs, consider elaborating and aligning them with the colleges you are aiming for, and be ready to provide explanations for how an MBA will assist you in accomplishing them.
You have a strong profile overall, but we need additional information to completely comprehend it. We want to know what impact you had despite the fact that you founded two businesses and served as their CEO when you were quite young. If appropriately improved, your profile has a good probability of being accepted.

Hello!

Please provide inputs on my profile below-

Background:
25, Male, Indian

Education:
B.E (2018) - 65% - First Class
Major: Computer Science and Engineering
GMAT :690 (Q44 V40) - Will not be retaking the test

Work Exp:
1 year (2018-19) in Harman International as an Associate Engineer: working on big data tech such as hive, hadoop, etc in addition to PL SQL, in a technical role.

3.5 (2019-present) years in EY India as part of the Business Consulting practice: joined as an Analyst and have been consistently promoted over 3 years to Senior Consultant (2 skip level promotions in 2 cycles). I've worked across domains such as regulatory compliance, contracts and commercials, project management, operations and auditing. I've worked with diverse clients, spanning FMCG, Pharma, Telecom and IT services. These clients have been global, so I have consistently interacted with stakeholders from varied backgrounds and geographies. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic I was not allowed the opportunity to travel. I've driven multiple engagements and clients at a given time as an SME. Some engagements were:

ITGCs - IT audits and Controls assessments
CSV - Regulatory compliance validations as per FDA regulations
Business Analyst - for SAP and non-SAP applications implementations
Transition manager - driving outsourcing operations for a client to multiple third party vendors. Subsequently, helped set up Business process excellence framework post transition.
Project Management

Certifications:

ITIL Foundation
Certified Scrum Master
EY Analytics badge - data visualization

Extracurricular:
CMCA member during my schooling
Part of the university's football team during my BE, as well as at EY
CSR at EY
Competitive Gamer

Goals:
Short term : Move from Business Consulting to Transaction Advisory (Mergers/Acquisitions and Strategy) in Consulting
Long term : Leadership role in strategy

Advice needed:
I am not looking to study in the US. Primarily in India, UK and Singapore. What would be my chances at NUS and ISB?
Which colleges can I target in the UK with my profile?

Thank you!

While your current GMAT Score is a little less, your profile's shining shield is the wide range of assignments you've embarked on at EnY. It will be helpful to understand the influence your work was able to have, the kinds of group tasks you led, and the lessons you learned from working in various sectors and on various problem statements. Additionally, it appears that you have a part in risk management, IT consulting, business process automation, and technology. Make sure you communicate this as plainly as you can so that the adcom doesn't have trouble picturing what you do and assumes you are a master of all trades.
The only one at EnY where you still appear to be actively involved is CSR. Showcase instances of leadership, value creation, the development of soft skills, the appreciation of diversity, etc. Include a statement about your motivation for engaging in this voluntary activity.
You must show how your current skill sets and experiences, together with what you learn from the MBA, can help you achieve your immediate professional objectives. It's best to avoid mentioning prestigious Management Consulting businesses like MBB with your GMAT score.
To get a precise list of target schools for your profile and preferences, I will need some more details from your end.

If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.

Work-wise, having two or more years of experience in a prestigious company like Deloitte looks promising. However, it sounds pretty unusual given that you mentioned quitting your job and founding your own organic agriculture company. It will undoubtedly be supported by outstanding tales to tell the AdComs. To demonstrate your solid work history, you should additionally emphasise any significant accomplishments you made while working for Deloitte. As AdComs are highly interested in knowing what the candidate is going to bring to the table, you will need to describe how you contributed to the growth and advancement of the organisation.
One of the main reasons I came to the EC's was your assistance with financial management for the farmers in the area of your town. This demonstrates your commitment to improving society and your social responsibility. You should prominently display publications and other neighbourhood services (such as the blue cross) in your application.
Your long-term goal of starting a business is very impressive for post-MBA objectives. You seem to be one of the few people who has clear, stated reasons for wanting to get an MBA. Stress how attending business school will enable you to fill in the holes on your resume and lead you to your personal objectives. Overall, your profile is respectable. To target a business school, all you need to do is concentrate on bringing those principles to the table.
Fuqua can be included in your list. With scholarships, we have aided candidates in getting into NYU, Yale, Fuqua, and Columbia. In order to better assess your possibilities, we would want to learn more about your profile. If you'd like, we'd be pleased to speak with you on the phone at a convenient time this week to go through your resume and potential business school options in greater detail. We'll be happy to assist you and enhance your profile. To receive more benefits and an in-depth profile review, feel free to schedule a call with us here.

If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.

Hi all,

Looking to understand what my chances are for Stanford GSB and HBS in particular. Will also apply to Wharton and LBS.

Background and nationality

Born and brought up in Nepal, although of Indian descent (can choose to not disclose).
Went to India for high school but schooling upto GCSEs was in Nepal. Female, 22

Undergrad Information:

Top 10 U.K. uni with a BSc in economics and politics. Got a first class honours which I believe is between a 3.7 and 4.0 GPA

GMAT: aiming to get 750+ (currently scoring 740 on practice tests)

Work experience and leadership:

A summer internship with an economic policy think tank based out of South Africa - worked on social protection policy during COVID-19

A summer internship with JP Morgan Chase London in the payments division (think fintech), got a return offer but didn’t really like the role

Spent 6 months at PwC london as a management consultant but wanted to try strategy which was not an option in my role

Moved to Mckinsey (this point was around 8 months after graduation) - been here as a BA and will complete around 2.5 years by 2024

Total work experience - 3+ years

Community and others
Leadership roles in 3 societies during university including one where I got clients for a student consultancy (included Forbes 30 under 30 founders, etc) + presented an undergrad paper at a conference + heavily involved in minority recruiting at mck + online mentoring and coaching for aspiring mck applicants (I love doing this and hope to build this out formally before I apply - think insta/LinkedIn page)

Post MBA goals
Entrepreneurship - one of the main reasons why GSB is my goal.

Anything else?
Raised around $500k for the Nepal earthquake via twitter when I was only 14 years old - personal appreciation by the then president of Nepal

Hi,

Your experiences are good and you also come from a background (architecture) that is less represented at b-schools.
While your goals sound alright you must connect them backwards to your current experience, to show your motivation and your need for an MBA. Specifically this means clearly articulating answers to questions such as - what gaps/ opportunities have you seen/observed in the present scenario that provide you an opportunity to join the intended career path (your goals) and have larger impact. Secondly, why do you need to upskill via an MBA to bring about the changes you observed in the present scenario.

B-schools will also be more convinced if you are able to show your business acumen in your present career. As an architect, one can solely be involved in the designing elements with little focus on the budgets. However, for the MBA application, you should be able to demonstrate your understanding of business. You can highlight this through your achievements in saving costs, creating new revenue opportunities, taking initiatives that help the business growth etc. You have some of these examples in the description above, now you should bring them out in a crisp manner in the resume. Pointers such as "Created drawings, presentations, estimates and execution schedules. Oversaw design and execution of architecture, interior and furniture design for multiple projects." can be removed from the resume as these are focused on responsibilities.

The ECAs are alright, particularly the topmost. However, its always nice to finish any story with an achievement. So, other than creating the documentation for 10 step wells, if you could say that these were also built based on your recommendation (and if you had a role to play in getting them built), then it just solidifies your achievement a lot more. INSEAD has an essay on your ECA involvement, so it will help if you have 2-3 good accomplishments in this space.

Talking about INSEAD, it will be relevant to understand if you have international experience/ exposure? The other 3 b-schools are alright and targets for you.
Feel free to schedule a discussion by writing to me at [email protected]

Dear avinashnair94,

Please find below our assessment of your candidature.

GMAT: Average; on the lower end of the spectrum as far as NUS is concerned

Academics: While coming from a non-traditional background does give you some brownie points, 3.1 / 4.0 (not sure if there is a direct reporting or extrapolated from Percentage) is on the lower side as far as most schools are concerned.

Work Experience: Good;
As an employee, diversity of work - PPP initiatives such as Metro as well as private establishments such as entertainment zones gives you an edge over several people with similar backgrounds in architecture and real estate. Liaisoning with govt. officials and private players showcase that you have ability to adjust, negotiate and work with diverse groups of individuals – something that INSEAD stresses a lot.
As a freelancer, the fact that you have managed budgets and executed projects independently in different sectors demonstrates that you have a decent grasp of the business and associated finances.
The rationale behind moving from an organization to becoming free agent needs to be explicitly called out as part of the essay stories.

Extracurriculars: Good;
You will need to start mapping your different extracurriculars to a common thread and demonstrate how these involvements will add value to the cohort.

Goals: While your goals do seem to be a natural progression of your past and present and there seems to be a lot of transferable skillsets you can take from past MBA experience, why do you feel you need a Global MBA to succeed, and do you want to pursue your long term goals back in India or a global play needs to be called out.

Overall, I believe with a compelling application where you can bring out impactful stories, you have more than decent chances of getting into ISB and NTU, and half decent chances of getting into NUS and INSEAD (while for NUS GMAT score is 10-20 points lower than the Indian avg, for INSEAD lack of international experience might be a bottleneck). For INSEAD, you will have to draw a lot of proxies to showcase comfort in working in a global setting.

The following videos will potentially help you:

ISB Essay Analysis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryYR9MZNNF8

Cheers and All the Very Best!

Hello everybody,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I'm 28yo and planning to apply for American bschools for classes starting in 2024/2025. I have quite some time to prepare and hope to get a 740+ score on GMAT :fingers_crossed:
I joined a renowned military high school at the age of 16. Afterwards, at the age of 19, I joined and attended the Air Force academy for 5 years, where I got my undegrad degree and master's degree in Aerospace Sciences. GPA should be 3.9 (Italian grade being 105/110).
I've been a fighter pilot for the Italian Air Force since then, but never done any real abroad missions. Still got some experience tho: I trained for almost one year in Texas with top American, German, Danish, Turkish pilots, just to tell some.

I'm starting a long process to leave the AF because I'd like to change career and I dream of joining one of the top 10 bschools, but I really don't know whether my profile is a right fit. I'd consider top 20 in case I couldn't make it. My goal is to get a general management job in the US.

What do you think my odds are?

Hey marcoplebs,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your profile looks good on the surface. On the academic end, a 740+ GMAT score would be spectacular and enhance your chances at the top schools. Additionally your GPA displays your academic potential.

On the work front, 4 years in the Italian Air Force will land you in a comfortable position to answer the AdComs on various aspects. Also you have mentioned global exposure in terms of your training in Texas with peers from different countries, try highlighting your major learnings from it. I am pretty sure that being in the Air Force for a decent amount of time would also provide you with sufficient instances where you worked beyond your roles and responsibilities which makes you stand out amid your peers. Any major achievement during work is also credible for your application. We have recently helped one of our candidates from the military background to get into top B- schools with 130K USD Scholarship. So, you too can get into top business schools

There are some other aspects on which I would like you to throw some light, like your ECs and descriptive post-MBA goals. Also, since you want to switch careers post-MBA; you’ll need to give strong reasons for your decision. For your reference, I suggest you go through our article on How you can justify your career switch to pursue an MBA! It would help you portray your reasons and the Impact of your future decision on your career progression!

Overall your profile looks good and if worked properly stand a high chance of acceptance at the top B-schools. Hence, if you’d like, feel free to schedule a call with us at your convenience.

Cheers!

In your case, having a good academic profile and a high CGPA is certainly an advantage. Having international exposure and experience working in the defense forces can also set you apart as a strong candidate. A GMAT score of 680 or higher can also increase your chances of getting into top schools.

However, it's important to keep in mind that your GMAT or GRE score is just one aspect of your application and only accounts for 25% of your overall profile. To increase your chances of getting into competitive schools, it's crucial to also showcase your leadership qualities and experiences through your essays and other parts of your application.

Hey gg2022,

Your academic background, including your graduation from a top-ten UK university with a strong GPA, is a positive aspect of your profile. However, the primary focus for MBA programs is typically on work experience. You have a strong work history, with notable experiences at well-regarded firms such as McKinsey, PwC, and JP Morgan.

To maximize your chances of admission, it's important to articulate the specific impact you made during your time at these companies. Focus on quantifying your achievements, such as the number of people you led, efficiency improvements, or cost-saving activities.

Your extracurricular experiences are also an important part of your profile, and it's crucial to demonstrate consistency in your contributions to society. If you have a history of volunteering, participating in community service, or involvement in NGO work, be sure to highlight these experiences. If you don't have a long-standing history in these areas, consider joining a relevant organization or club, or using your connections to make a positive impact.

Additionally, consider taking relevant courses, such as financial modelling, to supplement your profile and show your commitment to your interests. A strong GMAT score, such as the estimated 750 based on your 740 mock scores, can also help to strengthen your application.

While Stanford and Harvard will be ultra-competitive schools, because of the fact that these schools require exceptional profiles like entrepreneurs generating revenue in millions or having their own NGO and helping 10000s of people.

You can also consider other well-regarded schools such as Yale, Kellogg, Wharton, Oxford, LBS, Duke, Cornell, and NYU Stern. These schools may be a better fit for your profile and offer a more achievable path to admission. However, you should continue to focus on developing your extracurricular experiences to round out your profile and increase your chances of acceptance.

If you need more help, we'd be happy to set up a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.

Hey AldinoD,

Your academic achievements are impressive, and having a GPA of 3.87 from a top three university in Indonesia is definitely a positive factor. However, work experience is a crucial aspect of your profile, and it is important to focus on quantifying your accomplishments.

Highlighting your contribution to the company's business expansion, revenue generation, cost reduction, and people management can showcase your business impact and leadership skills. Additionally, mentioning any extracurricular activities, such as participation in NGOs or CSR activities, can demonstrate your well-rounded personality and social responsibility.

It is also essential to take courses and certifications that align with your post-MBA goals, and mention them in your profile. If you plan for the September 2024 intake, you have sufficient time to take relevant courses and enhance your skill set.

Regarding your GMAT score, a 690 is a good score, but for schools like INSEAD, LBS, and Cambridge, I recommend retaking the test and aiming for a score of 700 or higher. However, do keep in mind that schools like Harvard and Stanford have extremely high expectations from their applicants, and it can be quite challenging to secure admission, as they look for exceptional profiles with achievements like running their own startups or having their own NGOs.

If you are interested in pursuing an MBA from France, I recommend looking into ESSEC and ESCP. Imperial College London in the UK is also a great option. Some schools in the USA that you can consider are Duke, Cornell, UCLA, and Tuck.

In summary, focusing on quantifying your achievements, highlighting extracurricular activities, taking relevant courses and certifications, and retaking the GMAT can improve your chances of securing admission to your preferred business schools.

If you need more help, we'd be happy to set up a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.

Hey AldinoD,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

To begin with, on the academic front, 3.87 seems decent, however, you would need to add atleast 20-30 points on your GMAT score for the schools you are targeting.

On the work front, you have mentioned 4 promotions in a duration of 4 years, which seems pretty impressive. Also global exposure in your work profile will be highly valued by the AdComs. Exhibit your roles and responsibilities, impact generated and specific instances where you have stood out amidst your
peers.

Since you are targeting INSEAD, you may want to read our article on How to get into INSEAD, to gain some insights of the school.

You haven’t mentioned EC's and post MBA goals. They play an important role in an application and add diversity to your profile. Overall your profile looks good but we would like to know more to gauge your chances better. It is important to build an overall strong profile to strengthen your chances at the school. Hence, to discuss your profile in detail and further strengthen your application we would like to get on a FREE PROFILE EVALUATION call with you. Feel free to schedule a call with us at your convenience.

Cheers!

I know it's quite confusing to choose the right school for your masters abroad and even once you get your options narrowed down, the eligibility criteria is a tough nut to crack.
Students often find it hard to figure out if they are eligible enough for their dream school or not because the requirements vary across schools and countries. You may need to have a certain bachelor's GPA, a minimum work experience, or even a minimum entrance test score. While it is difficult to focus on all things and figure out what to highlight in your profile, it is extremely important in order to bag that dream admit for yourself.
Thus I have created this thread. Here, you can post all your profile evaluation queries and Experts with more than 5 years of experience will not just analyze your profile but also help you in the school shortlisting and further application.

Hey, this seems like a great profile for a top school, but I believe more in-depth review would be required to get an idea of the odds to get into the schools
