Hi jmikery,

Getting recommendation from alumn is definitely good-to-have but along with this I would also recommend you to have a recommendation from your pier/colleague who have worked with you for a long time. It will help the adcom to know your leadership skills, managerial quality, team work you have done in past and your work achievements.

I would suggest you to target 720+ GMAT Score if you are targeting B-Schools like HBS, Columbia and Wharton. 720+ GMAT Score and CFA will certainly offset your low GPA. However, I would also recommend you mention about your low GPA in your B-School application.

Meanwhile, I would recommend you to participate in some leadership activities at work and NGO's along with focusing your GMAT and CFA Level 3. It will make your profile strong.

You may also gauge your chances of getting admission in top business school by trying your Chances for B-School tool https://bit.ly/1rRCod5

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
