Hello all,

I had applied in the round 2 of EEO last year for ISB Co'26 with a GRE score of 321 (166 Q, 155 V, 4 AWA), and was rejected (not even an interview call)

So I have taken GRE again, and have scored 331 (170 Q, 161 V, AWA yet to be recieved)

I am planning to apply in the round 1 itself this year and hoping to join the ISB Co'26, by then I would have ~3 years of work experience

Current Work Experience: 2 Years of management consulting experience at Nomura Consulting (NRI), spanning themes across renewable energy, automotives (EVs and battery swapping), prestige cosmetics and data centers

Bachelors: B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay (CGPA: 7.74/10 or 3.1/4)

Internships: IQVIA (Management Consulting Role), L&T Finance (Research Role), Aditya Birla Capital (Operations Role), Fi.Money (Strategy Role)

Positions of Responsibility: Was the E-Cell (Entrepreneurship Cell) Manager at IIT Bombay, one of the coveted pre-final year PORs at IITB. Along with this was English TA and Hostel Design Secretary

I also actively pursued design during my initial college days and have intermediate level proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator (with 3 freelance projects)

Class XII: 81.56%

Class X: 10 CGPA, 94.4%

Requesting you to please review my profile! Also is ISB re-applicant friendly, and how much will be taking GRE instead of GMAT affect my chances, even though I hope this 10 point boost compared to last year should improve my chances.

Thank you!

Professionally, you have 2 years of management consulting experience at Nomura Consulting, covering renewable energy, automotive, cosmetics, and data centers, and you have about 3 years of work experience from joining ISB.

Excellent profile and frankly, it will take a detective to figure out any weakness in your profile :).

Answering your specific questions:

i) ISB is quite reapplicant friendly, but I don't think you will be considered a reapplicant. This is because you had applied to EEO the last time and will be applying to PGP this time. Confirm this with ISB though.

ii) GRE vs GMAT does not make any difference. This article may be of interest to you.

p.s. Make sure you articulate your career goals effectively in the essays (in the second essay this year).

Island7799

Previously have given GMAT in 2021 scored 730 (however, did not apply to any college). Will give GMAT once again this year.
Why are you planning to reappear Island7799? 730 is already a brillant score. Are you hoping to better it (in the equivalent Focus Edition)?

Otherwise, I am pretty sure that the oldness of your GMAT score, if that's the reason for your retake, will not be a problem.
Quote:
I have good work experience and have worked with leadership (C-suite execs) and have diversified finance industy knowledge along with real time implementation of the said knowledge.

With my not so good looking grades, do I even stand a chance to aim for an admission at ISB or should I look for other business schools.
Your health issues proved to be your undoing, and that's not something you could have controlled. Nevertheless, you have done yourself a favor, by getting a very good GMAT score. You might find this article to be of interest.

So, please go ahead and confidently apply.
Quote:
Can someone please suggest me whether I can target ISB - I do not want to waste another 3-4 months preparing for GMAT once again.
As I mentioned above, I see no reason for you to re-appear.

In the essays, especially focus on articulating your career goals and the reason for seeking second MBA.

Thank you for sharing your detailed profile on the forum. Let's evaluate your profile for ISB Hyderabad and see how you stand.

Profile Analysis
Academics:
Your academic performance has been consistent, and you have a solid foundation with a B.Tech and an MBA. Although your first MBA was more aligned with an MA, your specialization in Econometrics and Statistics adds a valuable quantitative skill set to your profile.

Work Experience:
You have a total of four years of work experience split between 1.5 years in Analytics Consultancy at EXL Service and 2.5 years in Data Sciences within the Banking/Finance sector. This combination of analytics and data science expertise, particularly in the finance domain, is a strong point in your application.

Extracurricular Activities:
Your involvement as a practicing Jiu-Jitsu athlete demonstrates discipline, dedication, and a well-rounded personality. While you don't have awards or NGO associations, your commitment to Jiu-Jitsu can be a unique talking point in your application.

Areas for Improvement
Break in Education: Address the one-year break post-B.Tech due to family commitments in a positive light, emphasizing any skills or experiences gained during that period.
Lack of Formal Awards/NGO Work: While you don't have formal awards or NGO associations, you can highlight any informal leadership roles or community involvement, if any.

Hi DivyeGupta59,

Thank you for sharing your detailed profile. Here’s a personalized evaluation and some targeted advice to enhance your application for ISB and other top MBA programs in India.

Profile Evaluation

Strengths:

  1. Strong Postgraduate Performance:

    • Your PGDM from LBSIM with a GPA of 8.47/10 and being a gold medalist highlights your academic excellence and dedication.
  2. Diverse and Extensive Work Experience:

    • With ~5 years of experience across industries, including leadership roles in sales, operations, and customer success, you demonstrate versatility and the ability to drive growth and manage teams effectively.
  3. Leadership and Achievements:

    • Significant accomplishments like driving 400x growth in fulfillment and reducing onboarding time at Embibe showcase your impact and leadership skills.
    • Your role as Student Head of the Placement Cell indicates strong leadership. Detailing specific improvements, such as increasing placement rates or forging new partnerships, can add value.
  4. Extracurricular Involvement:

    • Volunteering with CRY Foundation and Hindustan Times campaign shows commitment to social causes.
    • Being a Quora writer with substantial content views reflects thought leadership and engagement.
Areas for Improvement:

  1. Early Academic Scores:

    • Your 10th (72%) and 12th (78%) scores are relatively low. A high GMAT score (650+ in the GMAT Focus Edition, ideally in the 90th percentile) can help offset this and strengthen your academic profile.
  2. Job Stability:

    • Frequent job changes and company shutdowns could be perceived as instability. It’s crucial to frame these experiences positively, emphasizing the skills and resilience gained.
  3. Existing Postgraduate Degree:

    • Addressing why you seek another MBA despite having a PGDM will be crucial. Focus on how an MBA from ISB or another top institution will further your career goals and provide opportunities that your previous degree did not.
Recommendations:

1. GMAT Preparation:

  • Given your early academic scores, aiming for a GMAT score in the 90th percentile or higher will significantly enhance your application. This will demonstrate your quantitative and analytical abilities, helping to offset earlier academic performance.
2. Application Strategy:

  • Essays: Highlight your leadership roles and specific achievements, particularly your contributions as Student Head of the Placement Cell. Discuss how you improved placement rates or built new recruiter partnerships.
  • Why MBA Now: Clearly articulate how an MBA from ISB or another top institute will complement your PGDM and help you achieve your long-term career goals.
  • Recommendations: Secure strong recommendations that emphasize your leadership, strategic impact, and professional achievements.
3. Interview Preparation:

  • Prepare to articulate your career narrative, emphasizing how each role contributed to your growth and prepared you for an MBA. Focus on your strategic vision and leadership experiences.
4. Leverage Your Unique Background:

  • Highlight how your combination of law, management, and diverse industry experience enables you to bring a multifaceted perspective to business problems.
Estimated Chances for ISB and IIM A PGPX:

ISB:

  • Estimated Chance: 55-60%
IIM A PGPX:

  • Estimated Chance: ~50%

Dear all,

I am planning on applying to ISB in R2 this year (2024). Below is my profile, would be great if I could get some inputs on what should be improved. Please note, I am in the process of taking the GMAT and shall update the score on Oct 19'24 as that is the day I have my test. Rest of the profile is below. Another purpose is to also understand the target GMAT score - I know higher the better, but would still like to know a realistic target :)

23 YO Indian Male

Acads:
10th - 10 CGPA (2016) - school topper
12th - 91.9% (2018)
UG - BBA - 3.64/4 or 9.08/10 - Christ University 2021 graduate. Can I play this off as the fact that I did it form the most prestigious / coveted school for BBA? Christ University is ranked #1 in India for BBA.

Extra cirriculars:
1. Theatre - multiple street plays, mimes, & improv competitions - won a few too (don't have the certificates handy for most except 1 - lost them all while moving during covid)
2. Organizing Committee member in college since 1st year - went on to lead a team of 3 in third year and was the Core Committee member (again, certificates were lost while moving - I could probably get the professor however to write me an email, will that work?)
3. Part of the entrepreneurship cell for the department
4. Led a few events / held leadership positions during school (house captain, etc.) - are these going to be relevant? I assume not since these were essentially 6-8 years ago.

Have volunteered for a month with Children of the World (India) Trust as well.

Work Experience:
Completed 3 years with KPMG India in July'24.
Associated with the risk consulting practice of the firm and have gotten promoted from Analyst > Associate Consultant > Consultant in a span of just 2.5 years. Won a few awards for exemplary performance. Highest rated employee in my band in the last 2 performance years (total years of employment is 3 hence, 66%). Experience in multiple kinds of projects (transformation, internal audits, gap & risks analysis, data analytics, process re-engineering, enterprise risk management, etc.) in multiple industries (ITeS, E-commerce being the primary ones, financial services, real estate, electronics manufacturing, industrial marketing being secondary industries). Have also been involved in CXO level discussions - I directly interacted with the CEO & COO of a real estate project to understand their pain points, the current processes, presented our analysis and reports to them and came up with the strategy going forward jointly working with the VPs of the project.

My recommender would either be the partner who heads the service line or a director in the firm who I have most recently (and extensively) worked with.

Please let me know if there are other details you would require that can help build a case. Appreciate all the help!

TIA!

Hey, xlsx

Your academic transcript is indeed impressive, particularly your solid undergraduate GPA. Even as the ISB generally looks for GMAT scores within 645–655 for competitive applicants, keep in mind that it should be reflective of your abilities. Aim for at least 655 to be considered competitive, but remember that a strong application is holistic and not solely dependent on the GMAT score.

However, your participation in theater and leadership programs in college has been very good. Although you may not have certificates for all the activities, these experiences can still be part of your essays and interviews. Your personal stories about organizing events as a leader or about your love for theatre could reveal some of your soft skills and who you really are. Additionally, contributing as a volunteer for one month is also valuable. Indicate what you gained out of this experience and how it changed your thinking on social matters because ISB respects community involvement.

The strongest point of your post is the time you spent at KPMG, where you were promoted quite quickly and had some significant roles to play. Highlight your achievements, including interaction with CXO level executives and contributions to high impact projects. This experience will show how mature you are professionally and ready for an MBA.

Your essays should be used to link together your academic, extracurricular, and professional experiences. Emphasize leadership, teamwork, and problem solving abilities. Be ready for a detailed discussion about the experiences, especially how relevant they are to the objectives behind pursuing an MBA as well as future career ambitions. One thing I would like you to do if possible is get in touch with students or alumni from ISB so that you may get some insights about this program and the application process. By exploring these areas, putting together a comprehensive application, it will increase your chances of getting admitted to ISB.

Let's connect and discuss your profile in detail.Click here to schedule a complimentary profile evaluation session with our experts . We match you with the students and alums of top B-Schools according to your background and target schools.

Good luck with your GMAT :D
