Profile evaluation Gmat 650 .

Question

Hi ,

Finally i gave the GMAT today and got a score of 650 ( Q49 V 28) .
I was aiming for a 700+ score and when i saw the score of 650 i was a little unhappy as the score is under par compared to my scores in the mock tests .

I was working with an IT company for nearly 3 years after which i quit my job in October 2012 .I started my MBA prepration in February and gave the following mock tests :

My scores in mock tests were :

I am not able to decide whether to give a 3rd shot again in July or just continue with the application with my current score because if i give Gmat again it would be my 3rd attempt .

My target schools are :
Australian Graduate School of Management ( AGSM , Australia )
University of Manchester - Manchester Business School
University of Melbourne - Melbourne Business School
University of Warwick - Warwick Business School
Queen's University - School of Business - Queen's MBA

Profile :

Indian IT , Male 26 with close of 3years of experience , 2 years and 8 months to be precise .
Worked with Tata Consultancy Services , a major IT consultancy company from Jan 2010 to June 2011 .
Worked with Sunlife Assurance Company of Canada ( a captive unit in India ) from July 2011 to October 2012 .

A few things stand out to me about your profile:

Given your GMAT practice scores my inclination would be to take it one more time. Did you take a prep course? I highly recommend that you take Veritas' course, it should help you solidify the score. You did not give your GPA, but the GMAT score will be particularly important the lower your GPA.

I am also a bit concerned about the "quitting your job." That does not bode well for an MBA applicant. In addition your WE shows about a year at each place, that will also work against you. Business schools want to see dedication, commitment, and a track record of progressing within your career via promotions and leadership responsibilities. My recommendation would be to go back to work full time until you go to business school.

Also, I do not see why you want an MBA and why now? You should clearly answer these questions prior to applying.

Hi ,

I really appreciate your feedback .After my college i did not get my score in terms of GPA so i really do not know how is it calculated . My percentage score was 67.8 in college . 
As far as my job is concerned i switched in the same IT profile so i didn't digress from my career path and during my career at IT i was doing pretty well .Also after quitting i have been involved with my family business but not full time . 
 To be true, my actual motive to do MBA is to land up into an entirely new job profile .

Three attempts would be acceptible--some think more than that is detrimental. It's not uncommon to do better on the practice than the real test, but if you truly think your score can improve with another attempt, I would recommend it, since your applicant pool is so large (Indian Male IT background). HAving said that, if your post MBA vision is compelling and leverges what you have done in the past, then there should be nothing from keeping you back from an attempt at your target schools. Just make sure you demonstrate a good fit with each program and make sure you tell a good story about why now, Why MBA and Why your target school is a good fit.
