Hi,

I agree with GyanOne that more information about your profile would be needed to find out what went wrong wrt your dinged INSEAD application.

I would however differ from aj92s opinion slightly based on the information you've provided. Your GMAT is within the range of the average GMAT for INSEAD. Also usually if GMAT is the only problem, INSEAD sends out a signal by waitlisting the candidate. Most of the IITians in my batch at INSEAD had 5-6 years at INSEAD. I personally see the 3 years work experience as a chink in your armour. Please PM if you'd like to discuss your profile and see where the problem is.

I would not recommend reapplying without clearly identifying what went wrong the first time lest you might make the same mistake again and focus on wrong areas of your profile.

Hi,

I am an Indian with 3 years of work experience. I applied to INSEAD R2 (21D), but got dinged without interview. Want to get an opinion on whether I should reapply? I really want to get through to INSEAD because of the international exposure of the school, and could not give a proper shot at my first application since my mother was severely unwell.

GMAT Score: 720
Work experience: 3 years at MBB
CGPA: 8+ from IIT

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't see anything that might hold you back. There are things which are highlights and there are things which you can work upon. Only -ve is 3 years of experience which is on the lower side considering INSEAD but surely great for US Schools, if you are interested. I am sorry that first time wasn't as fruitful for you as it should have been but note that INSEAD considers applicants with international experience more than ones with less or negligible experience.

By the time you get more experience(assuming that you have little or no international experience) you can also pump your GMAT to ~750 - just that you are coming from over-represented pool of applicants.

Lastly, better share your profile for key inputs you are looking for.

I would recommend look for another school.
Sometimes applying to multiple schools will give you an idea what the school likes:
See you have MBB
your score is good unless you think of M7 but there too you would have some chance.
I would recommend review your profile ! Also look more for an academic loving school
I don’t know if yale is on your list but that might cut you in !
I can help you with application if you need some advise ! I’m not an application specialist but have worked with ten others who all got into top 10 global schools.

I am the last one and I hope to get into one too! Based on what I spoke to others I can give you the information .

3 of them went to insead ! One thing all had was international experience !
If you do not have that then may be you need to find another school

I would say that being an MBB with 3 years of experience you are from a really over-represented group, so a higher GMAT may help but I guess that the schools look for other differentiators too among your peers.

As others shared I would look into other schools that may fit you too and if possible try to improve your GMAT.
I would add that, for example, Kellogg has been well known among MBBs for its 1-year program, check it out.

Pablo

I am a current student and from what I know in the current batch there are very few Indian male engineers with a score of 720 (only 1 that I know of). The average Gmat for INSEAD is 720 but for Indian male engineers its 730+. Although I agree there might be other issues with your essays/ applications that have to be looked into properly before re applying. Your years of workex on the other hand I believe should not be a big problem ( a lot of Indians have similar years of exp at INSEAD). I would be happy to discuss it further if you want.

PS: I am a current student and not a consultant. :)

Cheers and all the best !

I would echo the advice provided above. Definitely speak with someone in admissions to get an understanding of what may have went wrong with your essays. I would suggest forming a relationship with your local admissions / marketing rep so that they can provide some additional candid advice on what you may be able to improve. Do not apply before doing this, otherwise you may waste your only reapplication.

I'd also suggest a bit more work experience and do make sure to highlight the international experience you have had. From what I've heard, if you don't have extensive international experience (maybe just a year or two) but can speak to your appreciation of different cultures and perhaps unique experiences during your travels, that can prove helpful as well for the international piece.

1 to 2 more years of work experience and an increase to 760 gmat score will make your application solid. Good luck

I strongly disagree, a 760 and 2 more years of experience can help or may not change anything, I believe that it is more important to focus on any gaps your profile may have.
