Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world: unreasonable people persist in trying to adapt the world to themselves. Therefore, all progress depends on unreasonable people.

If all of the statements in the passage above are true, which one of the following statements must also be true?

(A) Reasonable people and unreasonable people are incompatible. - WRONG. Can't be said anything about. Irrelevant.

(B) If there are only reasonable people there cannot be progress. - CORRECT. It must be true because they would always try to adapt. Domino effect.

(C) If there are unreasonable people there will be progress. - WRONG. Argument leaves this open as it says progress depends on unreasonable people. So it can go in either direction. Progress, if it is there, would be because of unreasonable people.

(D) Some unreasonable people are unable to bring about progress. - WRONG. May be true may be not.

(E) Unreasonable people are more persistent than reasonable people. - WRONG. Can't be said anything about. Irrelevant.

IMO Answer B.

Given:
Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world
unreasonable people persist in trying to adapt the world to themselves

Conclusion:
Therefore, all progress depends on unreasonable people

If all of the statements in the passage above are true, which one of the following statements must also be true?

(A) Reasonable people and unreasonable people are incompatible - Might be or Might not be, but what is the relation to the passage here ? - We can safely ignore this.

(B) If there are only reasonable people there cannot be progress. - There cannot be progress or progress is achieved already or no progress needed at all - Incorrect option

(C) If there are unreasonable people there will be progress - The statement says progress depends on unreasonable people, but didnt say progress will happen. This might not necessarily true.

(D) Some unreasonable people are unable to bring about progress - The statement says unreasonable people persist in trying to adapt the world to themselves. So this clearly says there are unreasonable people who are unable to bring progress. This is our choice.

(E) Unreasonable people are more persistent than reasonable people - The statement says unreasonable people are persistent, but it did not sat reasonable people are not persistent or no comparison between them - This option is not always true.

Ans: D

If all of the statements in the passage above are true, which one of the following statements must also be true?

Premise: Unreasonable people are leaders so they can help in progressing ...

Conclusion: as per argument ALL progress ---> Unreasonable people

(A) Reasonable people and unreasonable people are incompatible. ... Irrevant

(B) If there are only reasonable people there cannot progress.......... Yes can be concluded

(C) If there are unreasonable people there will be progress. .... Will justifies certainity .. Incorrect

(D) Some unreasonable people are unable to bring about progress. .... maybe true may not be true ... Incorrect

I choose D option.

(A) Reasonable people and unreasonable people are incompatible- Incorrect
Too Strong- Option is saying that both the categories are opposing and contradictory towards each other. Yes they both have different ways of doing the things but it is possible that some out of them agree with other people as well.

(B) If there are only reasonable people there cannot be progress- Incorrect
Progress depends on unreasonable people, it can be on the higher side as well as on the lower side ( Always check the keywords in the question- Depends)

(C) If there are unreasonable people there will be progress- Incorrect
Same as B

(D) Some unreasonable people are unable to bring about progress- Correct
I found it viable and practical, some people can bring about progress, some cannot.

(E) Unreasonable people are more persistent than reasonable people- Incorrect
Again Too Strong

Competition Mode Question

Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world: unreasonable people persist in trying to adapt the world to themselves. Therefore, all progress depends on unreasonable people.

If all of the statements in the passage above are true, which one of the following statements must also be true?

(A) Reasonable people and unreasonable people are incompatible.

(B) If there are only reasonable people there cannot be progress.

(C) If there are unreasonable people there will be progress.

(D) Some unreasonable people are unable to bring about progress.

(E) Unreasonable people are more persistent than reasonable people.
This one is easy.

I worked it out by eliminating options:

A:Reasonable people and unreasonable people are incompatible.
- No evidence for this in the passage.

B:If there are only reasonable people there cannot be progress.
- The question clearly states that "ALL" progress depends on unreasonable people. Thus, if we're left with only reasonable people, we will not have any progress.

C:If there are unreasonable people there will be progress.
- This statement would've been correct if it would state "Only unreasonable". The question says that Unreasonable people try to adapt the world. We don't know if all of them are successful.

D:Some unreasonable people are unable to bring about progress.
- I try to be careful around "some", "many", "most" because it can make the option look vague. Since the questiononly states that unreasonable people try to adapt the world, and we don't know how many of them are successful, it equally possible that all of them are successful. We should avoid this option.

E:Unreasonable people are more persistent than reasonable people.
- No evidence for this in the question.

Understanding the argument -
Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world: unreasonable people persist in trying to adapt the world to themselves. - Premise
Therefore, all progress depends on unreasonable people. - Conclusion. "all" means 100% progress depends on unreasonable people. This means there may not be progress if we have reasonable people. Mind you, the argument never said that having an unreasonable people is a 100% surety of progress. There is no sufficiency established. It may be that 0.5% of the unreasonable people cause "all progress," and 99.5% cause no progress.

If all of the statements in the passage above are true, which one of the following statements must also be true? - We are looking for "must be true" and not can be or may be true. Something that is 100% verifiable from the argument. If anything is less than 100%, we can be 100% sure that its wrong.

(A) Reasonable people and unreasonable people are incompatible. - "incompatible" is not even mentioned in the argument and, more importantly, in the conclusion.

(B) If there are only reasonable people there cannot be progress. - Yes.

(C) If there are unreasonable people there will be progress. - No such sufficient condition was established.

(D) Some unreasonable people are unable to bring about progress. - Out of scope.

(E) Unreasonable people are more persistent than reasonable people. - Out of scope.
