Question

Hey, I need some help here. The choice of b-schools is overwhelming and I can't seem to know where to start from. I am aiming for fall 2017 admissions.
Although I am interested in supply chain mgmt. I am open if you could suggest other options suiting my profile.

Year of Graduation: 2010
Results: GPA 6.3/10.

Work Experience
Total Work Experience: 5 years

Overview
* Merchant Marine Officer
* Worked onboard Oil and Chemical tanker ships as an operations engineer with International firms.
* Worked with multinational crew onboard ship with a total crew of 22.
* Interned at a Ship repair yard(20 weeks) in South east India, learning and handling docking operations of ships.
* Have travelled over 30 countries across 6 continents.

Extra-curricular Activities
* Regular participant in 5k and 10k runs organised around my city.
* Appointed as Division Cadet Captain in college in final year. Incharge of administrative matters pertaining to students in freshman year.
* Actively taking part in sports-Squash, cricket and swimming.
* Astronomy enthusiast.
* Charity work- Working with an organisation that is helping educate the girl child in India as a larger part of the Campaign launched by the Govt. of India, A member of foundation that helps provides rehabilitation for disabled war veterans and war widows.

short term goal-I want to be involved at a managerial level with a top tier supply chain firm, handling logistics and trade network. i am sticking with SCM as being in the maritime trade industry i have had good exposure ,at a micro level though ,with the logistics operations.
As an engineer my impact on the whole
process is very limited. i want to broaden the horizon and be a part of decision making rather than being an end product.

long term- to work in the industry as a leader and be a general manager/ director.

Also I am open to applying for schools in Canada also.

Let's start with your work experience. One thing that isn't coming through in your profile (and I get it, forums aren't the easiest place to demonstrate these clearly) is your leadership. You have work experience as an Officer, but what did you do to make an impact? Your generic comments just aren't strong, compelling statements, so I encourage you to really think about the details and highlight your leadership. Further, while you had some highlights of involvement in UG, since then I don't see much, which is a weakness in your profile. These things coupled with your GPA and GMAT put you in the running for schools in the 11-25 category.

Schools in the top 10 will be stretches, and seeing as you are focused on supply chain management, Sloan comes to mind, however I'm not sure you're the right fit for their program. Other schools that come to mind are Ross, Broad (Michigan State), and Tepper. Ross may be on the fringe of stretch but would likely recommend you give it a shot assuming you can pull a strong story together.

Thanks for your help. Yes here I have kept my profile in general. Will fine tune it to highlight my roles, especially leadership roles. one last question, could you tell me about the schools in Canada?

Glad you found the guidance to be helpful. As for MBA programs in Canada, I'd look at HEC Montreal, Schulich, Ivey, Queen's, and Rotman. All of these schools have a focus in operations and would help you reach your goal. One thing to consider is where you'd like to end up after graduation - geography will matter as brands and reputation vary in different parts of the world. Best of luck!
