The growth of the railroads led to the abolition of local times, which was deternined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differeing from city to city, and to the establishment of regional times.

my choice is
(D) determined by when the sun reahced the observer's meridian and differed
i see that determined......and differed is parallel.

the answer is
(E) dtermined by when the sun reached the observed's meridian and differeing
