+1 for B.

(A) seventeen commercials should be shown during a half-hour sitcom

(B) in a half-hour sitcom seventeen commercials will be shown --> Correct, rectifies diction error, and conveys intended meaning

(C) in a half-hour sitcom, seventeen commercials should be shown

(D) seventeen commercials should be shown in a half-hour sitcom

(E) seventeen commercials will be shown by a half-hour sitcom

Hence, B.

I think it is between A & D.Second half of the sentence has the word expected.Since expectation is present in the second half,I'll go with should in the first half.Difference between DURING and IN is hairthin. Will go with A.

KAPLAN OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

The main grammatical problem in the sentence as it originally stands is should be shown Looking at the rest of the sentence, you can see that should be shown contrasts with can be expected to contain. Should is wrong because it indicates that the number of commercials per sitcom is hypothetical; it needs to be changed to will be shown or an equally declarative construction in order for the sentence to be grammatically correct. Only choices (B) and (E) make that correction. You can then eliminate (E) for changing during a half-hour sitcom to by a half-hour sitcom. The alteration changes the meaning of the original sentence and makes no sense in its own right: the sitcom can't show commercials. (B) remains.
