Look at the things being compared, the battleship delivered the stunning reversal of fortunes, its voyage did not. Also there is no need of using had.

A. Correct
B. had is used when two events occur in the past and one occurs before the other but we donot know whether all other voyages occurred before or after the stunning one
C. did its famous voyage it means the voyage did something not Enterprise
D. we require during here because it happened during a particular course of time
E. same as C, it seems as if voyage did something not Enterprise

Only A is correct. All of the rest compare the ‘reversal to an enemy’s fortune’ to ‘the famous voyage of June 4 1942’.
