I remember reading from last years thread that Yale tries NOT to interview many candidates. Does anyone know this to be true? And if so, if you do not get an interview do you STILL have a chance of gaining admissions come the notification date?
I think at most elite schools, getting an interview puts your odds close to 50/50. However, just as in other elite schools, going through an interview is a requirement for admissions.
You're right. Only makes sense.
From the Yale SOM website:
Yes. All applicants who are offered admission will have had an interview. Interviews are granted by invitation of the Admissions Committee.

If you don't receive an interview by the notification date you can still be waitlisted, though. I saw it happen last year. Good luck!
Thanks Politricks, hope reigns To pass time, do you mind telling us a bit about yourself? If I'm not wrong you mentioned earlier that non-profit isn't your goal?

Do you want the adcom answer or the real answer? Ha!
Real
Sorry, got caught up and forgot to respond to this. Like most b-school applicants, I'm in a quarter-life crisis and not sure what I want to do. I am using b-school to explore what other industries/jobs/options are out there that I'm just not aware of. Also like most b-school applicants, I am telling adcom that I want to go into management consulting.

Thanks for the answer I'm especially relieved that the quarter-life crisis stands validated by at least one other person now :D Best of luck with your interviews and apps!

Has anyone figured out a pattern? I know some said every Friday last year . . .

Seems like they did one big day of invites over a week ago and then did me randomly. I am guessing that all the Yale applicants are not actively monitoring this forum.
I have 2 years work experience in consulting and research at Frost & Sullivan and 1 year so far with Mahindra which is one of India's diversified largest business houses in the Group HR department where I am currently working on branding, automating HR processes and key tech projects to infuse technology into a traditional organisations. Specifically my initiatives touch each of the 180,000 employees that comprise the group.
I want share some info that might help you guys waiting for an invite.. When I scheduled my interview, I saw some slots already got filled up for dates 24th Oct and 7th Nov (14th Nov all slots open). But the important thing is that nearly 60%+ of the slots are still available. One may argue that a time-slot is shown open till it gets completely filled up. Even in that case, I see 11 of the 15 time-slots still open. So we can expect a good number of invites in coming weeks. Yale will shower more love in coming days Hang on friends!
Tired of waiting and checking inbox several times daily.. they could have followed Harvard's pattern of invites/Dings on a fixed date!! Seems like Yale would be another one to ding me out!!
Anyone based in mainland China got an invite already? Being a re-applicant, I find myself extraordinarily calmed down...We've done our part...now it's the adcom's part of work.. There will be a reception in Shanghai early next week...but think it helps nothing whomever talk to..but just wait.. Anyway learning to be patient for a result is good..
