The most important skill that will help in CR is pre-thinking. Reasoning and pre-thinking skills can be improved by "proper" practice.

There could be multiple ways to weaken the given argument. The below kind of reasoning should come to our mind in pre-thinking.

1. The new material can be allergic to certain skin types. Then it cannot be said to be safe for all kids.
2. the new material can become brittle on long exposure to sunlight. This feature might ve not been tested in manufacturing phase and hence it is not safe as the material becomes brittle.

Now going thro' the options we can see that the option E, which says that the USP of converting to Car Seat compromises on Safety.
Hence E weakens the argument.

E - The term carrier does not double safely as the car seats - means it does not folds properly.
It might pose unsafe situations for the babies carried while converting to a car seat, for example, by accidentally folding while the baby is inside.

Option D seems more correct to me.
Option E is a general study done all baby carriers, not specifically The Dear One Baby Carrier.
The argument is that "The Dear One Baby Carrier is the safest and most comfortable baby carrier available today."
Option E says in general, baby carriers do not do well as car seats. But The Dear One Baby Carrier could still be the safest among all the baby carriers.
Option D however highly weakens the argument since there is a chance of suffocation to the baby due to this specific carrier, hence weaking the argument "The Dear One Baby Carrier is the safest and most comfortable baby carrier available today."

Pl give me your thoughts on this, finding the right answer in such questions should be highly logical since its a MCQ and only 1 must be correct. It seems to me that some of the answers here are might be opinions.

The Dear One Baby Carrier is the safest and most comfortable baby carrier available today. The hard plastic exterior retains its shape despite minor impacts, protecting baby from the outside, while the thick interior “comfort pad” acts as a shock absorber inside. The interior design has been comfort-tested by thousands of infants, and the exterior handles have been designed with the arms and hands of caring parents in mind. Perhaps best of all, the Dear One Baby Carrier converts easily from an at-large carrier to a car seat, reducing the risk to baby posed by being shifted from one carrier to another.

Which of the following, if true, would most undermine the claim to safety made on behalf of the Dear One Baby Carrier?

The claim is that the Dear One Baby Carrier is especially safe. One major reason given is that it converts from a regular carrier to a car seat, supposedly reducing risk. The strongest weakener would show that this conversion feature is actually unsafe.

A. An infant safety commission announces that most dropping accidents involving infants occur when a parent is the primary caretaker.

Wrong. This does not show that the Dear One Baby Carrier itself is unsafe.

B. A survey conducted by a popular magazine reveals that a large number of parents are still not aware of the danger posed to infants by putting their carriers in the front seat.

Wrong. This is about parents’ awareness and misuse, not about whether the carrier is safe as designed.

C. A parents’ group endorses the Dear One Baby Carrier as the most convenient baby carrier to take on vacation.

Wrong. Convenience does not undermine safety.

D. A manufacturer adds a “danger of suffocation” label to the bedding used for the interior of the Dear One Baby Carrier.

This weakens somewhat because it raises a possible safety concern about the interior material. But a warning label alone does not show that the carrier’s central safety claim is false.

E. An article written by a pediatrician states that at-large baby carriers do not safely double as car seats.

Correct. The Dear One Baby Carrier is advertised as safely converting from an at-large carrier to a car seat. If such carriers do not safely double as car seats, then one of the product’s main safety claims is directly undermined.

I'd say, D is tempting, but it says only that the bedding has a danger label. A label shows a possible risk, not that this carrier is unsafe when used properly.

E is stronger because it directly attacks one of the product’s own safety claims: the carrier supposedly becomes a car seat safely. If at-large carriers do not safely double as car seats, then this specific product’s conversion feature is suspect too, because Dear One is exactly such a carrier.

Your point that E is general is fair, but general evidence can weaken a specific claim when the specific product belongs to that general category. E attacks the main safety advantage stated in the ad.
