FYI: Souvik has volunteered to take the gmat online and report back. https://gmatclub.com/forum/i-am-taking- ... 21382.html

Let him know if you have any questions for him. His previous time he had 760. Wondering what he gets now... :-)

Hi ,

I have one quick question if you can answer that it would be great.

If i give the new GMAT, will I be allowed to give the original GMAT inside 16 days, incase the test centres in my region open up from the lockdown say in 6-7 days ?

If you read the first posts of this thread you will understand why yes.

Hi,

Sorry I searched again not able to find the post.

Basically one can endup taking GMAT twice in 10 days. That is crazy !

FYI. I am sending in questions to the GMAC in advance of the webinar. Let me know if anything else you would like asked or addressed.

Here are a few of the questions that GMAT Club community members have sent to us and we would appreciate if you could address them in your webinar today:

0. Whiteboards are seen as a significant hurdle esp. while GRE allows use of make shift whiteboards. Does GMAC have any plans for addressing this issue?
1. ID requirements (what if one has no access to passport while they are sheltering in place or expired passport). What are the ID requirements for the new test?

2. What if Power Goes out?
What happens if it is for several hours?
3. Online whiteboards is a really hard sell to test-takers. Are you expecting that test takers can effectively do their work on a virtual whiteboard? Are you modifying the test in any way?
4. Can one practice with a sample virtual whiteboard somewhere?

5. Will gmat prep tests be modified to allow the white boards?

6. Why can’t one cancel the score?
Seems strange along with a 7-day waiting period.
7. What happens if one has a touchscreen laptop? Are they disqualified or they have to avoid touching the screen?
8. Do you have to wait 16 days between online and regular GMAT tests?

The only rational explanation I can think of for this behaviour from GMAC’s side is: They believe the online test provides the unfair advantage of one’s home-turf, and are thus tightening up the screws on every other aspect of the test so as to make it miserable and impossible.

I have some questions I hope some of you will Be able to clarify:
1) What happens if one loses internet connection mid way through?
2) Is GMAC going to release an official “trial” version of this whiteboard?
3) How is one to answer geometry questions without reproducing the image? and more importantly, how is one supposed to adapt to this new tool and figure out not just how to write but also how to draw on it?
4) Why do the scores come after 1 week? Why am I not allowed the chance to cancel them after viewing?
5) Not a question, just wanted to say that 200$ for this is really a joke

I was really looking forward to this from GMAC’s end but it looks like some of us have to proceed with past scores.

This answers the internet/power failure issue to some extent.

What happens if there is a technical issue before or during my exam?
If you encounter a technical issue that prevents you from starting your exam, your appointment will be cancelled. You will receive a complimentary voucher that you can use to register for and take the exam at another time.
If there is a technical issue after you have started the exam, you can bring it to the attention of the proctor by raising your hand or starting a chat session from the exam window. The proctor will attempt to assist you promptly. If for some reason, a technical issue cannot be resolved, or you are unable to proceed with your exam, your session will be ended. In this situation, you will be allowed to register and take the exam again at no additional cost. Please note that we reserve the right to verify and approve all requests for retakes resulting from a technical issue.

Great questions, thanks!
Can you add this q as well:
If we don't cancel and see the score but don't report to any schools, will it appear in our record?

Although the no-whiteboard is a big bummer, I think GMAC has already normalized the scores, meaning that what was considered a 650+ level problem (with an erasable board) in quants, will be a 700+ (w.o. an erasable board).

I think they have been conducting multiple iterations and mock tests, and will continue doing until April 20th, (without erasable board obviously) using sample control groups (volunteer test-takers), to create a base to compare against no-whiteboard scores, and the 7 day period opens the room for them to make their score base even more reliable using real test-taker data! so there is a slight chance if you got an 82% with 4 mistakes in a center, you can get the same 82% now with maybe 8 mistakes online.
If a difficult geometry comes up, all of online test-takers will screw that question up together, so they are still level against each other.

The percentile is calculated based on the results of other test-takers in a given period of time (in this case: the COVID-19 period) ( I read this somewhere on about the CAT system and GMAT scoring system). So if GMAC has managed to create a reliable "other test-takers results w.o. a whiteboard" to compare our results against, a decent score is nevertheless achievable and fair. A good score still means you did better than the other ppl in the SAME ONLINE situation.

Nonetheless, I think this online board will be a big joke! I hope they give us a workaround on the coming days

Meanwhile You can see what Business Because thinks the receptions is of the new GMAT Online (business because is owned by GMAC)

https://www.businessbecause.com/news/co ... m-reaction

Posted from my mobile device

"The reaction to the GMAT Online exam among the business school community has been positive, with admission consultants praising the Graduate Management Admission Council's swift action. The online test is a boost to b-school candidates who want to enroll in an MBA or master's program this year"

This reminded me of state-owned medias in Russia, China, Iran who falsely praise themselves and spread propaganda on certain issues.

Not so sure if this's gonna be a boost to any candidate! It might however be a great blow to one's GMAT record.

Want to share at least some hope regarding the non-whiteboard discussion: Numerous test takers protested via the OfficialGMAT Twitter account and pointed out that there is no way of solving Quant questions using a virtual notepad. GMAC now responded multiple times: "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are actively investigating ways to make the GMAT Online test-taking experience even better. Stay tuned for an update."

They have definitely noticed the prevalent opinion and will inform us about alterations shortly, lets see.

Come on!!! isn't it obvious? so many people do not have touchpads or even laptops and use a regular mouse on a desktop.

At this point, I'm assuming GMAC will announce tomorrow that we can use visible whiteboard's so long as they face the webcam.

Or they could double down on the stupidity and take away the digital whiteboard too, lol. THAT'LL TEACH THEM!

Since the the online GMAT doesn't allow a scratch pad I am thinking of skipping it. Can any body give an idea how much time it requires to prepare for GRE if you are already prepared for the GMAT ?

Is it a good idea or it doesn't make any sense? Am I better of scoring lower in GMAT quant or I should consider GRE.

confused and frustrated

We are attending a GMAC webinar for the Test Prep Companies (thanks GMAC for including us in that). Reporting live here... so pardon for typos

The first message is that the content, questions, scoring and everything else about the Quant and Verbal sections will be the same. Nothing will be changed for this test from the standpoint of difficulty/etc.

P.S. Online whiteboards are here to stay and no solutions appear to exist to change that. sorry folks :(

From GMAC: Mouse is allowed. Touchpad is allowed

Stylus or electronic input devices such as drawing boards are not allowed.
