I am pretty sure based on the description of the software, none of those applications could run in the background. I think we can switch back to focusing on how to deal with the test without a scratch paper rather give GMAC arguments and excuses why they should take even more away.

With the standardized test waived, basically the entire application to Marshall’ can now be done by someone else without any involvement of the applicant. That’s a bit scary.

I am scared because even GMAT of a candidate can be done without the candidate if GMAT is not working on a mechanism to stop all other applications (such as Google remote help and teamviewer) running on the computer while the test is in progress. Any update on it?

Be assured, this would not be possible. in fact one would not be allowed to minimize the test window. The test environment would take control of the complete PC/laptop.

It seems that GMAC is considering the best way at the moment... I sent them the request of reconsidering whiteboard policy and got the following reply today:

"Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are actively investigating ways to make the GMAT online test-taking experience even better. Stay tuned for an update."

Kellogg has waived the GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS requirement.
Are we witnessing an apocalypse already? :P

Their e-mail is as follows:-

"To say that we're in the midst of widespread change is an understatement. And we understand — having spoken with thousands of people in your shoes over the years — that this might affect your decision to apply to business school.

We also know that the online options for the GMAT and GRE that became available recently do not accommodate everyone and present the added challenges of studying in a crunched timeline.

Your goals matter, and nothing about the disruption you are experiencing — from changes in your career path to difficulty in accessing testing centers — should hold you back. To that end, we will now waive the GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS requirement on our Full-Time MBA application throughout the rest of Round 3. The rolling deadline remains in place through June 1.

I've published a post that goes through the details on Inside Kellogg. I encourage you to read it and contact us with further questions via [email protected] or (847) 491-3308.

My team and I want you to get to the other side of this disruption, look back, and feel good that you made the right decisions for your future. We wish you well during these trying times and are eager to support you as you move forward throughout the application process."

Lol. I think so. It is definitely a very strange move for an M7 school that I am sure leaves other schools very confused... heck, I am confused!!! :dazed

I checked their application page. Is it only for those who have an ongoing application? Can a fresh application be started with no requirement for Tests?

LBS did it first and then Kellogg and now Marshall too. Marshall’ does not have an interview component or a letter of recommendation, making it potentially a very fast and easy application.

I dong think that’s true. I got an email from Kellogg and I don’t have an ongoing application at the moment. I am sure they have waived it for all the prospective applicants for found 3-4.

You posted the screenshot for the application requirements. I did not see an interview component on it. I made the judgment based on your screenshot. Forgive me if I incorrectly read your screenshot

Haha this thread is so massive I can not find my own posts now.

That screenshot was only for the application requirements. I believe that the interview process will continue as before. No news on that front as far as I know.

P.S I applied to Marshall’s one year MBA last year. They didn’t have an LOR component even then in their admissions so it’s not really a new addition.

Obviously the "online whiteboard" is the most ridiculous thing in this scenario, but something also very ridiculous is no break between Quant/Verbal?!? Does GMAC not understand a lot of us have taken several mock exams with the 8 minute break incorporated into our routine? No snack, no restroom break, no breather? If I were to take this stupid "exam", guarantee my score would tank in the second section because of this additional curveball.

How are you even supposed to do a mock exam (i.e., prepare) for this Online GMAT? Take a GMATPrep test with no break and an online whiteboard? What a wash of a concept. They are really going to need to explain themselves on Friday, and I truly hope they get some solutions going. This is all around absurd!

Because you are taking the exam from the place of your comfort (your home or office) therefore to some extent not giving generous breaks can be justified.

However, the use of whiteboard without writing pad is a serious concern.

They must allowed the use of digital pen (writing pad) as an acceptable alternative of mouse to do justice with at least a few. For some, who have no access to such writing pad and are locked down, it will still be unjust and they will find themselves at the receiving end.

I'm also not comfortable with the "only one break before IR" bit. Apart from the obvious issues, how are test takers going to make that mental "switch" (from one section to another, especially when the first section hasn't gone too well)? I don't think it'll be a problem for test prep professionals, but other test takers? Anyway, waiting for the webinar for now.

The GMAC should just assume they're going to lose the entire pool, and plan accordingly.

You can only take it once online. It would seem to appear that you don’t have to wait 16 days after taking it online until you can take it at a test center since it doesn’t count towards the five tests per year or the eight tests overall lifetime limit.

I think they have assumed that and dedicated a separate pool of questions which is why the 5/8 limits do not apply. Or am I reading too much into it?
