Does HBS typically release all / most interview invites on that early October date (6 October last year) or is it spread out through the month?

Everything will be on that day, which we expect will be around Oct 5 this year but nothing has been confirmed yet by the school. I'm hoping they'll post on their admissions blog by the end of the week.

All interview invites, dings and waitlist notifications will be on that day, assuming they continue what they've done in the past.

Good luck, all!

This is a great question. I unfortunately haven't seen anything along the lines of a breakdown of applicants -- only of the final class makeup or "growth" in the numbers of female applicants.

If I were a betting woman, however, I would bet that it is not a 50-50 split in applications. I do think more women self-select out of the process or are pursuing other fields. Here are a few articles from the past couple of years I found that I didn't fully read but seem relevant:

https://fortune.com/education/business/ ... pplicants/

https://www.mba.com/information-and-new ... e-applying

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/11/busines ... gains.html

Anyway, in general this topic is why I always harp on the fact that NO ONE should get caught up on the published yields or acceptance rates. They mean nothing to you as an individual. Your real odds are a factor of others in your same general "buckets" who are directly applying against you in the same year for the same school. But I digress. : )

Glad you are enjoying the podcast -- I love doing it!

Hi Erika - I listen to your podcast and have found it hugely helpful through this process! I was wondering if you had any inkling of the % of applications that came from women, and therefore the acceptance/admit rate for women?! Most forums I see seem to be primarily men, so I'm wondering if its just self selection and women are not posting enough or if the gender split is truly proportional between applications and ultimate admit rate.

They did post the 2+2 application updates, which came later than the MBA interview update blog post last year. I think by the end of the week, we should hear! Next week at the latest, I would bet.

Does anyone know if it is possible to shift from the regular MBA applicant pool to the MS/MBA Engineering Sciences applicant pool if I already submitted my app in R1 for a regular MBA? I did a good bit of googling, and I can't find any precedent for this. Thanks!

Over the past few weeks, we have had the pleasure of reading your Round 1 applications. I distinctly remember how much effort—and heart—goes into putting together an application. On behalf of the whole team, thank you for what you have shared with us.

On Tuesday, October 5 at 12:00 noon Eastern Time, each of you will receive individual news on next steps in our process. There are three possibilities:

Invite to interview – this is good news!
Further consideration – also positive! This is a small group of strong applicants that we ask to wait with us until Round 2, at which point we will review your application again. More info on this process will be shared with you directly if you receive “further consideration” news.
Early release – unfortunately we are not able to move you forward in the process. This part of our work never gets any easier, but our hope is that by letting you know this news early on in the process you can move forward with other plans.
If you are invited to interview, you will receive access to our Interview Information website on October 5 to learn more about the process – you will then be able to sign up for an interview on October 6.

my back of the envelope: assuming they admit 1 in 10, and roughly half of those who are interviewed are admitted, then probably 1 in 5 (~20%) are interviewed? no idea how the ~9300 applicants are spread across the two rounds, i assume more than half are in R2 though
