If a person is rejected by hbs,Wharton,Cbs,booth, should he expect anything from mit?
What does mit see in the profile? They haven’t asked for any essay and I don’t think anyone can shortlist candidates from a cover letter(300 words) and a video essay. Will GRE/gmat score play vital role for mit selection more than any other m7?
In my research, I found that MIT puts a lot of weight on the saying "past performance is the best predictor of future success" so they over index on your previous achievements and impact (which to some extent includes the GMAT/GRE).
And they pretty much have all they need to know your past performance. Your resume, a corroborating LoR, and a cover letter help to illustrate that. The video essay adds some colour to your profile by letting them know who you are and that you're a nice person (hopefully). The GMAT is a past performance indicator of managing MIT's program. They've said in many admissions events that they know people change their minds and their careers once they get to business school because MIT knows that people only really know what they want when they see the resources available to them. So they don't ask for an essay on what you intend to do post-MBA. They know that if you're a top performer now, you will likely be a top performer in 2 years time, but now equipped with an MIT MBA
