Is the split between "method for" and "method to" a valid one? Both are grammatically correct and can be used interchangeably in many contexts. GMAT Test writers may feel differently, and they never make their feelings known. So I hesitate to eliminate any answer choices based on this split.
I eliminate (A) because "involving the passing of 800 milliamperes of electricity through the brain" can be interpreted, rather reasonably, to modify "disorders" when it should modify "method". Such ambiguity should be addressed in a reputable GMAT correct sentence.
I eliminated (C) & (E) for the same reason.
Note that I could not eliminate (D) for the same reason because in (D), "that involves ..." clearly modify singular "method" and not plural "disorders".
Now, I have to choose one between (B) and (D).
Anything wrong with (B)? " involves the passing of 800 milliamperes of electricity through the brain" and " is now administered sparingly" talk about two very different aspects of the therapy and thus should be not connected by "and".
Anything wrong with (D)? the comma before "because" should better be removed.
Ultimately, I choose (B) as my final answer.

—> This modifier is placed right behind psychiatric disorder, so does it mean that “psychiatric disorder” involves the passing of […] - I don’t think so
Hence,
A, C, E are out
Now we’re left with B and D.
- B: I have good feeling about this
- D: […] disorders that involve - Yep, this has a meaning problem. If “that involve” meant to modify “disorder”, we also have a meaning problem.
So IMO the answer is B

(B) for treating a variety of psychiatric disorders, involves the passing of 800 milliamperes of electricity through the brain and is now administered sparingly because it engenders the treatment involves.....correct
(C) for treating a variety of psychiatric disorders involving the passing of 800 milliamperes of electricity through the brain, is now administered sparingly, because of engendering same as A
(D) to treat a variety of psychiatric disorders that involves the passing of 800 milliamperes of electricity through the brain, is now administered sparingly, because it engenders incorrect use of comma and meaning problem
(E) to treat a variety of psychiatric disorders involving the passing of 800 milliamperes of electricity through the brain, which is now administered sparingly, engenders involving.....same as A
