At a surface level, you have a strong profile. Your medical and armed forces background will add meaningful diversity to the cohort, which is a definite advantage. Have you given thought to your post-MBA goals?
That will be the most critical aspect—having a clear narrative and strong positioning will make a big difference. Aim for a GMAT Focus score in the 675 range to remain competitive.

Given your typical IT background, you’ll be part of a highly competitive applicant pool. For ISB, aim for a GMAT Focus score of around 675 to stay competitive.
Have you clearly defined your post-MBA goals? If you’re targeting Product Management roles, it will be important to demonstrate how an MBA will help you build a stronger understanding of business aspects like go-to-market (GTM) strategy, enabling your transition into such roles.

I am an Indian male with 3+ years of work experience as of now and am targeting ISB Round 1 for the 2027 intake.

Academic Profile:

10th: 10 CGPA
12th: 84%
B.Tech: UG in Information Technology with CGPA 8.1 from a Tier-2 engineering college
EC: Was part of the college football team as well as a student council rep

Work Experience:
I have worked as a product analyst for 2 years, switched jobs, and have been a Deputy PM at Hindustan Times for more than a year. I started as an APM and was recently promoted to Deputy PM.

What should be my target score for good chances of converting?
PS: My current mock scores are hovering around 625-645 with an equal weightage towards all 3 topics.

10th: 10 CGPA
12th: 97.6%
B. Tech: Mech Eng. from NIT Surat with 8.02 CGPA
EC: led NCC during college days, Volunteering works at my workplace for blood donations, study drives etc.
Work Exp: I have a work exp of 4 years in Manufacturing industry in the role of project manager leading a capex intense expansion project.

Hope this finds you well. You have a good chance of making it to ISB or the IIMs(when you are eligible) if you get the fundamentals of your application right, which would be your leadership stories, career growth progression, GMAT and a well researched goals strategy. For non Indian schools certain other aspects also need to be evaluated for example some schools have that extra focus on differentiation through global/ international exposure. The primary thing here is to show how you in comparison to your peers have developed a more mature outlook on your industry by getting opportunities to work closely with leadership or having a chance to contribute meaningfully through your analytical insights to influence business decisions taken by your seniors while also acting as a meaningful and encouraging force for your peers and subordinates. You seem to have only recently moved into this new role in consulting. Why do you want to switch so soon? If you are planning to build a specialised focus within consulting this may be a bit too early to apply without thinking it through. The key question also will be if you are able to demonstrate any meaningful achievements or growth by the time you apply. Your ECs are alright for Indian B schools. If you apply to school abroad, the schools want to know how you behave when there is no KPI, no boss, no promotion at stake. Do you still show initiative? Do you still bring people together? Do you still care enough to act? This should be reflected when you speak of your extracurriculars. Feel free to read more on this, and reach out for a deeper analysis of your profile

Hope this finds you well. Look for enablers in your profile that can help position you more strategically. One that stands out to me is your education in Chemistry and your work as an engineer. Perhaps there is more to speak about there to show you wanted to move into a more applied, technical domain and actively made that shift. Maybe that would connect with your goals, but at the moment we don’t know what your goals are.
Look for instances where you influenced your team members, seniors, and juniors through compelling arguments based on an analytical foundation. You don’t need NGO experience to get through. Because your work experience essays already tell the admissions committee how you perform when incentives are clear, extracurriculars tell them how you behave when there is no KPI, no boss, no promotion at stake. Do you still show initiative? Do you still bring people together? Do you still care enough to act? Look for examples, even if they are from work, to show this.
I would suggest getting upwards of a 685 to stay in the safe zone. Feel free to discuss your case one to one.

metalowl The uniqueness of your story will matter more than having a seemingly safe GMAT (which, according to me, should be upward of 675) because ISB sees hundreds of similar PM profiles. So think, what did you actually drive? What decisions did you influence? What impact did your product work create? You need to show maturity beyond your years and examples of ownership and decision-making/influencing exposure. The proof of career progression seems to be there, so bring focus to your accolades. You didnt mention your goals. Make sure they dont sound generic

Usernamevisible Fairly strong profile. I recently had a mentee with very similar credentials in M&A who converted both IIM A and ISB.
What tends to work well for CAs in IB/M&A-type roles is the ability to demonstrate a unique perspective beyond routine tasks like deal execution support. Look for experiences where you went above and beyond. For example, identifying patterns in why startups fail, and what you did with that insight to bring in sustainable capital structures, improve coordination, or alleviate challenges for startup teams, thus setting a precedent for future engagements. Bringing a more empathetic outlook to how you operate in projects, in a numbers-heavy environment, can also help you position yourself uniquely.
If your analytical foundation is strong, you do not need to stress excessively about the GMAT. Aim for a score upwards of 665, but focus equally on putting in strong work on your application and interview preparation.

MagicHarmony You are still very early in your career. What do you want to do at this point? Are you looking at ISB as an exit path from a failed or dormant brand, or do you have some strong achievements from the startup/business, for example, some investor interest, and have identified that you need a strong MBA brand backing you to grow the business further?
If it is the first case, then you ideally need to first prove your capability by getting into a decent, business-oriented role pre-MBA. Just saying you have the right market fit does not do much to convince the adcoms in a highly competitive admissions process. Schools do not want to be an escape from a situation where you are unable to drive career growth on your own.
If it is the latter, then you may still apply with solid proof of your achievements in the business, positioning the MBA as a way to gain more exposure through ISB-connected roles, learn further, and eventually scale your venture more effectively. Maybe there is more context to your story, and so should you want a detailed discussion feel free to reach out

I was a member of Juvenile Care at VIT, Vellore, where I worked to encourage children to pursue education through engaging and supportive learning initiatives.

Work Experience:
I'm prepared for a journey abroad and to pursue a Master's degree, but something changed. I felt an urge to create a brand and build a business here in India itself. It's been a total of 2 1/2 years since I started working on the brand and 1 year & 4 months since launched. We achieved the right product-market fit. This is a small brief on my work experience.

I'm targeting a score of 715+ to get into ISB R1.

Srash Hope this finds you well. When you are a transitioning army veteran, the more well-researched you are about your goals strategy, the better you are positioned in a competitive MBA admissions process. If I may chalk this out very transparently for you, you do come from a fairly differentiated pool of army officers, and your case would be even more unique because within that pool you have worked as a healthcare professional. At the same time, the tricky part about your situation may be figuring out where you would fit in post-MBA, not just with your operations leadership background, but also in a way that does justice to your medical education.
The answer is not that easy to come by, which is why you need to introspect deeply and also research the right avenues for yourself. I would suggest that you look at roles where you can marry your army leadership experience with a healthcare focus. Consulting roles may not be that easy to get into if you don’t understand the practices today, but you can surely prepare yourself. I would lean towards leadership or business-oriented roles in big pharma, hospitals, and upcoming health startups (which are often best for role changes), among others. I have mentired doctors and army/navy veterans, so feel free to discuss your case.

I’d need more details about your work experience—particularly the nature of your role and the impact you’ve created—as well as your post-MBA goals to give a more informed assessment. If you’re already in the flow and have recently taken the GMAT, I’d recommend a retake with a target of 675+, which is roughly in line with ISB’s average.

Hi NandiniPandya Academically, its a very sound profile with good ECs, but why do you want to be a PM? Why not further explore finance/consulting, where you are a natural fit? I hope this is a well-thought-out transition and not just trend-following. You could differentiate your capabilities a lot based on your law education and finance experience. But if you are set on PM goals, then you need to extract themes like process inefficiencies you observed in banking, prior digitization, systems, or workflow experience, etc. It is a bit different from how you will build a case for finance roles. Nevertheless, you may look for unique positioning opportunities in fintech, regtech, and enterprise/B2B products in banking/energy, but these are just my ideas at this point.
