Hi everyone! I was reading the discussion about how scholarships at M7 schools work, so I thought I’d share what we’ve observed working with applicants. Scholarships aren’t just about having the highest GMAT or GRE scores. While strong scores can help, schools look at your entire application, so your story, your goals, the quality of your recommendations, and even how you perform in the interview. Merit-based awards often go to people who combine solid academics with clear leadership impact, whether that’s career progression, entrepreneurial ventures, or meaningful contributions outside of work.
Having said that, certain stories do tend to resonate more when they align with what schools and the broader market are excited about. Think narratives that show you understand where industries are headed and how you’ll contribute to that future. But still, there’s no single “right” story. It’s really about how convincingly you tie your experiences, ambitions, and values together
And for those wondering: being Indian is not a disadvantage. We’ve worked with many Indian applicants who’ve landed significant scholarships at M7s by putting together well-rounded, compelling applications. So please don’t fall into the trap of thinking a strong score is the magic key, because it’s not. There isn’t a formula for scholarships, but there are patterns, and the strongest applications tend to bring all the pieces together in a way that is genuine and well-aligned with the school
