🔹 Step 1: Initial Employee Distribution (Total = 120)
Given:
30% in Marketing
→ Marketing = 30% of 120 = 0.3 × 120 = 36 employees

Remaining employees = 120 - 36 = 84

Finance is twice Operations
→ Let Operations = x
→ Then Finance = 2x
→ So:
x+2x=84⇒3x=84⇒x=28
➡️ Operations = 28
➡️ Finance = 56

🔹 Step 2: Layoffs
Total layoffs = 28 employees
Given:

Twice as many laid off from Marketing as from Finance

Half as many laid off from Operations as from Finance

Let:
Finance layoffs = F
→ Then Marketing layoffs = 2F
→ Operations layoffs = 0.5F

So total layoffs = F+2F+0.5F=3.5F=28⇒F=8

✅ Layoffs:

Finance = 8

Marketing = 2 × 8 = 16

Operations = 0.5 × 8 = 4

🔹 Step 3: Final Department Counts
Original:

Finance = 56

Operations = 28

After layoffs:

Finance = 56 − 8 = 48

Operations = 28 − 4 = 24

✅ Final Answers:
Finance Operations
✅ 48 ✅ 24

1: Find the initial number of employees per department.

Total employees = 120.

Marketing = 30% of 120 = 36.

Remaining for Finance (F) and Operations (O) = 120 - 36 = 84.

Since F = 2 * O, we have 2O + O = 84, which means 3O = 84.

Initial Operations (O) = 28 employees.

Initial Finance (F) = 2 * 28 = 56 employees.

Step 2: Calculate layoffs and the final numbers.

Total layoffs = 28. Let 'L' be the number laid off from Finance.

Layoffs: Marketing (2L) + Finance (L) + Operations (0.5L) = 28.

This gives 3.5L = 28, so L = 8.

Layoffs from Finance = 8.

Layoffs from Operations = 0.5 * 8 = 4.

Final Finance = 56 (initial) - 8 (layoffs) = 48.

Final Operations = 28 (initial) - 4 (layoffs) = 24.

Thus, Finance = 48 and Operations = 24.

Begin:
120 total employees.
30% Marketing = 36. So, we have 120 - 36 = 84 employees at the Operations and Finance sectors.

Finance : Operations = 2x : 1x
Sum of proportions 2 + 1 = 3. So, x = 84 / 3 = 28.

Finance = 56 employees
Operations = 28 employees

Layoff:
Proportions:
F : M : O
2x : 4x : 1x

Sum of proportions 2 + 4 + 1 = 7. So x = 28/7 = 4.

Fired from each sector:
F : M : O
8 : 16 : 4

Answer:
Finance = 56 - 8 = 48
Operations = 28 - 4 = 24

At the end of the year, a company had exactly 120 employees working in three departments: Marketing, Finance, and Operations, with each employee working in exactly one of the three departments.

Exactly 30% of these employees were in the Marketing department.
Of the remaining employees, the number in Finance was twice the number in Operations.

At the beginning of the next year, the company decided to lay off a total of 28 employees from these three departments, with twice as many laid off from Marketing as from Finance, and half as many from Operations as from Finance.

Select for Finance and Operations the number of employees who work in the Finance and Operations departments, respectively, after the layoffs. Make only two selections, one in each column.

Last year
total = 120
M = 30% of 120 = 36
Remaining = 120 - 36 = 84
F= 2x; ( where x corresponds to Operations)
2x+x = 84
3x= 84
x= 28

Operations = 28 ; Finance = 56

Next year
M = 2F ; Operations = F/2
28 = 2F + F/2 +F
F=8
Operations = 8/2 = 4

So Finance after layoffs = 56 - 8 = 48
Operations after layoffs = 28-4 = 24

I hope I am right :think:

Total Employees: 120

Marketing Department: 30% of 120 = 0.30×120=36 employees
Remaining Employees:120−36=84 employees
Given condition : The number in Finance is twice the number in Operations, so Finance = 2O.
2O+O=84
3O=84
O=28 employees
Operations = 28 employees
Finance = 2×28=56 employees

Summary:
Marketing: 36
Finance: 56
Operations: 28

Now lets consider, Total Layoffs =28 employees
let x = the number laid off from Finance.
Twice as many laid off from Marketing as from Finance: Marketing_layoff = 2 * x
Half as many laid off from Operations as from Finance: Operations_layoff = 0.5 * x

Total layoffs: 2x + x+ 0.5x = 28
3.5*x = 28
x =8 employees
Marketing_layoff = 2×8=16 employees
Operations_layoff = 0.5×8=4 employees

Summary
Marketing =6
Finance=8
Operations=4

Total employees in eaxh department after Layoffs
Marketing: 36−16=20 employees
Finance: 56−8=48 employees
Operations: 28−4=24 employees

Total number of employees at the firm = 120

30% are in marketing = 3/10*120=36
Remaining (120-36) members = 84 members are in Finance & Ops

Given: F=2O and F+O=84
So,
2O+O=84 ⟹ 3O=84 ⟹ O=28
Initial counts:

Marketing: 36
Finance: 56 (2O)
Operations: 28 (O)

Layoff Count

Let the number laid off from Finance = x

Marketing layoffs = 2x
Operations layoffs = 0.5x

Total layoffs = 28:
x+2x+0.5x=28 ⟹ 3.5x=28 ⟹ x=8

Finance layoffs: 8 (x)
Marketing layoffs: 16 (2x)
Operations layoffs: 4 (0.5x)

Total number of employees after layoffs:
Marketing = 36-16=20
Finance=56-8=48
Operations=28-4=24

Hence, final answer is Finance = 48 & Operations = 24

In total there are 120 employees. Let M, F and O be number of employees in each department:
=> M+F+O = 120

Given that
M = 30% of 120 = 36
Of the remaining employees, F = 2 O
=> 3O = 120-36 = 84
=> O = 28 and F = 56

Now 28 Employees were laid off
Let x employees be laid off from Finance dept
As per question, 2x were laid off from Marketing dept and x/2 laid off from operation dept

=> 2x+x+(x/2) = 28
=> x =8

So 16 employees from marketing, 8 from finance and 4 from operations have been laid off

Remaining employees are
M = 36-16 = 20
F = 56 - 8 = 48
O = 28 - 4 = 24

So Answer is for Finance 48 and Operations 24

marketing has 30% which would be 30% of 120 => 36
Let employees in operation be x, then finance would be 2x
total employees = Marketing + Operations + Finance
120 = 36 + 3x => x = 28

Let layoff eqn be
f + 2f + f/2 = 28 => f = 8

After layoff,
Employees in finance would be 2x - f = 48
Employees in Operations would be x - f/2 = 24

First, let's determine how many employees were in each department at the end of the year:
Total employees = 120
Marketing employees = 30% of 120 = 0.3 × 120 = 36 employees
Remaining employees = 120 - 36 = 84 employees (in Finance and Operations)
Let F = number in Finance and O = number in Operations
We know that F = 20 and F + 0 = 84
Substituting the first equation into the second:
20 + 0=84
30 = 84
0=28
Therefore, F= 20=2 × 28 = 56
So initially:
Marketing: 36 employees
Finance: 56 employees
Operations: 28 employees
Now for the layoffs:
Let's say x employees were laid off from Finance.
Then 2x employees were laid off from Marketing.

And x/2 employees were laid off from Operations.

Total layoffs = x + 2x +x/2 = 3.5x= 28

Therefore, x= 8

So:

Finance layoffs = 8

Marketing layoffs = 16

Operations layoffs = 4

After layoffs:

Finance: 56 - 8 = 48 employees

Operations: 28 - 4 = 24 employees *

Therefore, after the layofis, there are 48 employees in Finance and 24 employees in Operations.

Before lay off
F+O+M=120
M=0.30*120=36
F+O=120-36=84, (also F=2O)
So, F=56 and O=28

During layoff
M+F+O =28
(M=2F and F=2O)
4O+2O+1O=28; 7O=28; O=4
Layoff from Operations=4 and Layoff from Finance=2O=2*4=8

Employees after layoff in
