I don’t quite agree with the solution. Again none of the answer choices are appealing

For option C
When the word "seems" is used the author is saying that ok this may be be a solution however there are short comings which need to be looked into This is not the same as "Cannot be trusted" This statement is too strong for it to be the correct answer.

I think you mean Option B (which is the correct answer)

Quote:
B. Argue that coal-burning power plants may cause more environmental problems than they solve.
The answer choice does not say “cannot be trusted”; it says “may” cause. Looking at the overall structure of the passage, the first paragraph introduces IGCC and explains how it is better than traditional plants. The subsequent paragraphs argue that IGCC plants ignore two grave environmental dangers. The author’s tone is not neutral, nor is he simply listing problems. Rather, he is arguing that this solution may create serious long-term dangers despite its short-term benefits. Moreover, none of the other answer choices comes close to capturing the primary purpose of the passage. That's why B is the correct answer.

Hope that helps!!

"technology seems to be an energy solution to satisfy both industrial and environmental groups."

This line in the passage made me feel that it is not by an environmental group, because why would an environmental group refer to themselves as seemingly finding this to be a satisfactory solution?

Any thoughts?

Hi dignissimosminima , well this line is written by author to introduce the contradiction in the further line, because as per author it seems that IGCC provided us the solution, but they didnt take two grave environmental dangers into consideration, so overall If we look we are basically discussing that even though IGCC is providing us some solution but it can still cause environmental problems.

"coal-burning power plants" != "New IGCC plants"

Not verifiable

Hi suranamohit2694 can you please let me know, what is the answer according to you, so that I can help you, because Para 2,3,and,4 are perfectly in line with option B. In para 1 author introduced igcc then in para 2 he discussed that two dangers are ignored and Para 3 and 4 are elaborating those 2 dangers even though they are helping in some case.
