So I am bumping this age old question again with some specifics... Is a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) from IMT Ghaziabad India equivalent to an MBA to cause my application to be called a second MBA or not? Please help .
I am aiming for Chicago Booth, Rotman, Insead, HEC and Insead Singapore

Well, instead of getting hung up on the "Technicalities (is it a second MBA), let's say 1. It's not a second MBA, because it's not an MBA 2. You still DO have to provide a good story - why did you do this first degree? What did you learn from it? How far did it bring you? What did it make you understand? Why do you believe you need a second MBA? And why at our school?

Most important is to deliver a very convincing STORY which makes all of this make sense.

Best,
Jon

I think it depends on how you position it on your resume. Do you list the degree as PGDBM on your resume? US b-schools will ask you to find an equivalent...Masters in Business? If you are otherwise a solid candidate for the schools you are interested in....I don't think your PGDBM degree will cause you any problems.

When I applied to Sloan I already had a one-year Master in Innovation Management. Basically it was like a mini-MBA but I don't think the Adcom batted an eye - in any event, it was never brought up to me in my interview.

As my mentor always said, the problems you need to worry about are not the ones you plan on having. The biggest road bumps candidates run up against are having lackluster essays and targeting the wrong MBA programs.

Thank you very much Leah for the answer. This is just one of the points I wanted to get out of the way before finalizing my essays. I hope to get a review on my profile from you once I am done with GMAT.
