While interviewing at Owen, I was told “please let us know if you have deadlines with other schools and need an early
Decision from us.” Since then a firm has approached me about an amazing job opportunity. If I get into school, I would rather do that. But if I don’t get admitted, I don’t want to miss this opportunity.
Is this something that I could request an early decision for?
Posted from my mobile deviceThis is a tricky question - have you built a strong relationship with anyone in admissions? If you have been networking for a while and feel comfortable bringing up the situation with an advocate, I don't see an issue with it. Will the new job require you to give them an answer soon or will you have the option to defer until after Owen's decision.
If you have a confidante there, I would e-mail them and request a short phone chat. Explain the situation, and explain convincingly that your first choice is to attend business school and attend Owen, but that this dream opportunity has a tight deadline. Ask if it would be possible to receive an admission decision sooner.
A second train of thought is that Owen has a high conversion rate from interview to offer. If you feel your interview went very well, then you could simply wait out the decision. It's a bit riskier, and if you don't have someone in admissions who you are close with, this may be a better option.
I hope this helps! Often times, there is no right or wrong answer, but rather what your gut tells you. Let us know if you have any follow up questions.
Best,
