Somewhere between M and A, exactly 300 km from the point where P asks the first question, "How far have we to go?" Q replies, "Half as far as the distance from M to here".

At point D, Q told P that distance from D to A is half of that from M to D.

Please see the diagram i attached in earlier post. Total distance= x+2x+2y+y=3(x+y)

3. Somewhere between M and A, exactly 300 km from the point where P asks the first question, "How far have we to go?" Q replies, "Half as far as the distance from M to here".

Asked: The distance between D and A is:

D-----2-----------M-----------3--------A

Distance between 2 & 3 = 300 km
D2 = 1/2 * 2M = x
DM = 3x; 2M = 2x
M3 = 300 - 2x
M3 = 2 * 3A
3A = 150 - x

DA = D2 + 2M + M3 + 3A = x + 2x + 300 - 2x + 150 -x = 450 km
