How many odd numbers are there between m and n?

(1) m – n = 9
(2) m is a positive integer.

(1) m-n=9

Example

29 - 20 = 9, Odd integer = 21 23 25 27 29
0 - (-9) = 9, Odd integer = -1 -3 -5 -7 -9
17 - 8 = 9, Odd integer = 9 11 13 15 17
24 - 15 = 9, Odd integer = 15 17 19 21 23

Therefore, we can say that there is 5 odd numbers between m & n. Sufficient.

(2) m is a positive integer. No info about n. Insufficient.

Answer : A
The answer is C.
Your case will only be true when both m and n are integers..but that has not been stated in the question. Try 2.3 and 11.3 --> 3,5,7,9,11. And the integers have to be between the values excluding the ends. Bunuel please confirm.

Yes, we need to know that m and n are integers.

S-1) If m and n integers then always 4 Ex m = 11 and n = 2
So 11-2 = 9. Numbers are 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. 4 odd.

if m = 11.5 and n = 2.5 then odd numbers are 5. Not sufficient

S-2) NS as not much info

S-T) Yes now we know m is integer so n has to be integer. Sufficient"

Answer is C.

Hi Bunuel

Please also confirm whether it is going to be explicitly stated on the GMAT that "m and n are real numbers". Is this something that is stated? or its like this question where nothing is written explicitly?

I answered your question here: https://gmatclub.com/forum/is-x-2-9-pri ... l#p1818186

By default on the GMAT all numbers are real. So, NO, it won't be mentioned because by default all numbers on the GMAT are real numbers.
