Hey everyone,
This process has been a long, emotional roller coaster and I've learned to make peace with my past. I applied to schools last year as well and only got waitlisted, this year I finally have 2 solid offers that I'm truly grateful for. I'm deciding between UNC vs. USC and would love to get some outside opinions. Finance isn't a huge factor right now, USC offered 50K and I've got a full-ride fellowship at UNC but I may be able to transfer that to USC so I'm working on that asap. Long term goal is going into tech some sort of strategy or operations role, I really don't care for the hot product manager roles, just want to find something within tech. Would love to hear from students at either program about the tech recruiting culture.

Congrats man! Both are solid choices. As far as tech roles post graduation I would say California definitely has a stronger presence. Although UNC RTP area is steadily growing on the east coast.
I am at UNC and recruited for a program manager role with Amazon AWS so there are definitely many opportunities for tech roles at either option. Amazon’s new HQ is now on the east coast.
Personally I would tell you to leverage the full ride at UNC and go to USC if possible. Otherwise I rather take less student debt in the long run.

Based on the current financial situation, UNC would be my choice. USC has a strong undergrad name but the bachool is not quite as highly rated. Even the latest rankings raised a lot of eyebrows of those familiar with both programs... we are not sure how anyone would rank USC ahead of Anderson.
At the same time, there is regional sphere of influence that Marshall has. Southern California and many folks from both Anderson and USC also recruit in Bay Area naturally.
I would follow the money even though funny enough you said that wasn’t a priority. 😬
