When the student-teacher ratio of a class exceeds 20 students to each teacher, the students experience greater difficulties in learning. In light of the new hiring freeze for public school teachers, parents should consider sending their children to private schools this year in order to capitalize on the better learning environment.

Here the assumptions in the argument are that the hiring freeze will cause the student teacher ratio to increase to greater than 20 and that the private schools have student teacher ratio less than 20. Any option that add to these assumptions will strengthen the conclusion

Which of the following, if true, provides the most support for the argument above?

(A) The new hiring freeze on public school teachers will stay in effect for the next two years. : We are not told that whether this duration is enough to increase the student teacher ratio to more than 20 : Incorrect

(B) Public schools educate a greater percentage of this country's children than do private schools. : This is just an information about the proportion of student in the schools but does not talk anything about the student teacher ratios : Irrelevant : Incorrect

(C) Private schools have an average student-teacher ratio of 14 students to each teacher. : This option strength one of the assumption and hence is a strengthen: Correct

(D) Three years ago, a high student-teacher ratio in the public schools created learning problems for many of the affected students. : We are already given that high student teacher ratio causes difficulties in students: Incorrect

(E) The increase in federal and state funding for the city's educational system has been cut in each of the last three yearly budgets. : Again this information is not relevant as it add nothing new to the argument in terms of the student teacher ratio etc. : Incorrect

P - generally, student : teacher shud be 20 students to 1 teacher
P - In Public schools, teachers hiring is freezed
C - Send children to Private schools.

Prethinking - 1) Public school Ratio is packed, ie. there are already 20 students to 1 teacher, which can be infered from the premises also
2) The ratio of Student to teacher is less than 20:1.

(A) The new hiring freeze on public school teachers will stay in effect for the next two years. - Even if it does, for 2 years, 5 years, doesnt matter as it doesnt strengthen the claim that students be sent to Private schools.

(B) Public schools educate a greater percentage of this country's children than do private schools. How do we know? Totally out of scope.

(C) Private schools have an average student-teacher ratio of 14 students to each teacher. - Exactly! CORRECT

(D) Three years ago, a high student-teacher ratio in the public schools created learning problems for many of the affected students. - Information might be true but it just stregnthens our premise, not our conclusion.

(E) The increase in federal and state funding for the city's educational system has been cut in each of the last three yearly budgets. - Out of Scope - doesnt imapct conclusion
