Quick question about recommendations: both of my recommenders have submitted, but one of them left the company yesterday. This means that his contact information (his company email address) won't be active anymore. Is this a problem or is his cell phone and personal email going to be enough?
@dthollow, you should contact the admissions office with this update. It's important that they have current contact info for recommenders on file.

They are sending personal confirmations, not automatic ones.
I just got my confirmation and I submitted yesterday.
Video questions should be sent by the weekend.

Thanks guys for the confirmation (Had a paranoid moment when I submitted).
I dropped a mail to the AdCom with my application reference number to confirm receipt and they did so. Also, they mentioned about receiving the video question link on Friday (then we'll have 1 week to answer them).

I received an automated confirmation with my name at the top. Seemed like a generic thank you message with information on video questions.

I just completed my video questions. While I will not go into detail about what questions were asked, I will say it was a nerve wracking experience. I consider myself to be very poised in interview situations, and this threw me a little bit. I think the fact that my responses were recorded, and could be reviewed, re-reviewed, and scrutinized, was a scary thought. Also, the fact that you only have 90 seconds to respond, and you can see the seconds ticking down as you answer, made it challenging. I found it difficult to find the right pace, and make sure I said everything I needed to within the timeframe without rushing.

All in all...BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL!!

So it is like, 90 sec to think and 5 minutes to answer?

JPD, thanks for the report of your experience!

EssaySnark has an automated practice interview service which is similar to what you described - it's over the phone, rather than a video, but it's conducted in the same manner: the system asks you questions and you have to respond in a limited time or it cuts you off. It's Option 1 on this page.

Or you can just practice with a friend who constantly interrupts you!! :P

Good luck to everyone interviewing at Yale (and Kellogg who has a similar requirement now).

I also just completed the video questions, and it sucked. I am not a camera person at all. It just feels so artificial and fake (which is ironic, since Yale says that this is their way to try to get an authentic feel of their applicants). Here's a summary of the experience:

2 generic practice questions that no one sees and that you can review afterward
3 real questions that are delivered by videos of an adcom member asking it
20 seconds to think, 90 seconds to respond
I had two interview-y questions and 1 thought question, which I expected from what people shared about the video questions in last year's round 3

My "how to not look terrible" tips:

-Put a smiley face sticker or something right above your webcam so you remember to look at the camera and not the screen
-Spend a lot of time beforehand creating a good backdrop/setup with good lighting and seating where you'll sit straight
-Put on lots of makeup (blush) so you don't look washed out
-Elevate your computer with books or something so it's eye level when you sit up straight. That way you won't lose your posture or get the double chin.
-Stop blinking. I noticed that I blinked way too much when recording myself, and I think it's from lack of direct eye contact with another person.

Is it just me, or do webcams make every flyaway on your head stand out like antennae?? I tried to paste them down but was unsuccessful. You can let me know if you have other tips for this one.

I am so not looking forward to doing this again for Kellogg. Ugh.

I wrote a bit more about the experience at my blog, too. Can't post links yet, but you can find it in my profile.
