Jessica Shklar Reviews

Company: mbaMission

After graduating from Harvard College with a degree in anthropology, Jessica Shklar worked in nonprofit education, first doing curriculum development for an adult education center and then in the admissions office of a small university in Los Angeles, where she advised applicants to both the undergraduate college and several graduate programs, including business school. While there, she developed and delivered workshops around the country on Selecting the Right College and How to Write an Effective Application Essay. Having been accepted to every business school to which she applied, including Stanford, Kellogg and Yale, Jessica ultimately chose to attend HBS, where she completed her MBA with distinction (graduating in the top 10%). After starting work, she volunteered in the New York City public school system, helping high school seniors with their college applications. She has worked at several Fortune 100 companies, including American Express and JPMorgan Chase, where she was the quality leader and a senior vice president for Chase Home Finance. Jessica is also a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, with specific expertise in Six Sigma deployment and initialization.

Jessica Shklar - Best of the Best!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Working with Jessica Shklar was one of the best decisions I made during the MBA application process. From our very first consultation, I knew she was someone who truly understood how to bring out the best in an applicant.

I came from a non target school in Middle America and had what felt like a sporadic and unconventional set of academic and career experiences that did not fit neatly into a traditional applicant mold. On top of that, I come from a very traditional and overrepresented background in investment banking and private equity, and I also had a below average test score. What Jessica did so well was help me step back and see my own story differently. She was able to connect the dots across my experiences and shape them into a clear and compelling narrative. More importantly, she helped me uncover the deeper motivations and themes behind my decisions that I had never fully articulated myself. That process not only made my applications stronger, it helped me better understand my own mission.

I also had a very demanding work schedule, and Jessica was a major help in keeping me on track and making sure I hit every deadline. She was incredibly responsive, thoughtful, and proactive. I always felt like I had a true partner in the process who cared deeply about the outcome and was fully invested in my success.

With her guidance, I was fortunate to be admitted to HBS, Wharton, Tuck, and Kellogg, along with receiving scholarship support.

I cannot recommend Jessica highly enough. She helped turn what felt like a daunting and uncertain process into one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my career.

Jessica is the best in the industry / highly recommend

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I worked with Jessica & was fortunate to be admitted to both HBS and Stanford GSB. I can say without hesitation that working with her was one of the best decisions I made on this journey.

Jessica brings an exceptional level of insight into top-tier MBA admissions. From the outset, she demonstrated a deep understanding of what different schools truly value and helped me think rigorously about positioning. She took the time to understand my background, motivations, and long-term goals, and then helped me translate those into a coherent, authentic narrative across every component of my applications. One of Jessica’s greatest strengths is also her ability to draw out stories and themes that you may not realise are there. Her feedback was consistently thoughtful, precise, and honest, pushing me to go deeper while maintaining clarity and authenticity.

Beyond content, Jessica was incredibly organised and detail-oriented. She helped me manage timelines, ensured consistency in my messaging, and was meticulous in refining essays, resumes and interview preparation. She went above and beyond & always made herself available when last-minute questions arose.

Equally important, Jessica was a supportive presence throughout. I genuinely enjoyed working with her and always felt she was fully invested in my success. I would recommend her without reservation to anyone applying to top MBA programs.

Jessica is the best in the business!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I had the privilege to work with Jessica, not only during my own application process, but leading up to it. I started interviewing for admissions consultants, over 15+, and it was clear from the outset Jessica was not only the one with the most knowledge into effective strategies, but the one who humanized potential applicants the best. I left speaking with her late in 2024 knowing that she would be my consultant of choice for my application cycle in 2025: and I was not disappointed!

I had been in regular contact with Jessica sharing professional and personal updates, and starting brainstorming with her in the March timeframe. As she said, and I later realized, I had all the raw components for an excellent application, and she was the artist who helped me mold it to tell my authentic story. She was masterful in providing her own feedback, but acknowledging the stories were my own, so we often struck an excellent balance as to what I wanted to write but what she deemed best for my stories.

Jessica never missed a deadline, communicated her approaches with crystal clarity, and even successfully weaved components of one school’s application to another, making the whole process less burdensome. She would often hop on calls with me last minute just to iron things out rather than ping pong drafts back and forth which I genuinely appreciated. But probably an underrated characteristic was her help in managing my anxiety after I interviewed and hit submit- a huge plus to future applicants who don’t want to be daunted by the process.

Thanks to Jessica, I got accepted to 5 total schools (two M7s) with around $500K in total scholarships. I can very confidently say I would not be so fortunate were it for Jessica’s help, and can even more reliably state that my future successes at the business school I choose will be in large part due to her guidance/mentorship. Potential applicants who are reading my testimonial; Jessica is worth every penny in gold to help you reach your own professional endeavors.

Overall great experience

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took the 5 school package with Jessica Shklar and overall had a very good experience. Jessica is the real deal. She was extremely responsive, efficient, and really helped me put together my story in a way which was way better than I would have been able to do on my own. While I did not get into my dream school, I'm certain if I had a fighting chance, it was because of working with Jessica. Investing in a multi-school package is a hefty investment, but I have absolutely zero regrets about making it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Thank you Jessica!

Jessica was absolutely stellar from our intro call and through the MBA application process. She's very, very talented at crafting stories. I had complete faith that she would help me craft the best application possible, and I trusted her from the very beginning. I have no doubt that her guidance enabled me to get into HBS, GSB and Wharton. She knows this process inside and out. She knew when to push me and had a great balance of honesty and candidness while also being supportive and encouraging. She's communicative, she checks in you, and I could tell that she really, really cared about helping me. The MBA process is stressful. You need someone who you 100% trust to help you shine, and this was Jessica for me. Cannot recommend her enough, and so excited that I will be going to my dream school!

Thank You Jessica and MBA Mission!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Thrilled to share that I’ve been admitted to my dream program and received scholarship offers from two other programs.

A huge thank you to Jessica and the mbaMission team. While I didn’t work with a consultant one-on-one, I followed their insider guides, podcasts and YouTube channel religiously. Their free content is incredibly high-value and shaped my application strategy to a massive degree. If you are an applicant navigating this process on your own, do not sleep on their resources...they were a game-changer for me!

Jessica has been an incredible resource. She never failed to respond or steer me in the right direction, even though I wasn’t a formal client. Her generosity and wealth of knowledge are unmatched, and anyone working with her is truly lucky to have her in their corner.

Grateful for Jessica's Guidance! Dream School, One and Done!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Working with Jessica Shklar at mbaMission was truly a gift. She helped my brother get into his dream schools a few years ago, so when it was my turn, I knew I wanted to work with her. From the very beginning, Jessica had a way of making the overwhelming application process feel approachable.

When I first filled out my brainstorming document, I worried that I didn’t have much of substance to share. But on our very first call, Jessica guided me through my story in a way that made everything click. She has such a knack for pulling out the right details, weaving them together, and shaping them into something powerful while always keeping it authentic and in my own voice.

She was with me every step of the way, refining drafts, giving thoughtful advice, and calming my nerves when I doubted myself. Thanks to her support, I was accepted into my dream school on my very first application!

I couldn’t be more grateful for Jessica’s guidance, patience, and expertise. She made a daunting process not only manageable but actually rewarding. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone starting their MBA journey.

Jessica Shklar: Stellar Experience!!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

Jessica, has been a fantastic partner in my business school application. It all started with a 30min consultation in which I was able to confirm her homerun storytelling ability. Since I scheduled this ahead of time (several months before the business school application) the 30min consultation served to plan and strengthen areas where I could show improvement in my profile.

After signing up for a full package, she has been just the best application partner I could have asked for. Very strategic, most if not all replies for quick questions within 30min, assays returned with high quality suggestions and edits. Willing to accommodate scheduling difficulties. And ongoing support even after acceptances for advice on scholarships!

Jessica was able to help me get into my top school of choice, HBS. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would happily do so.

Absolute Rockstar!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I reached out to Jessica Shklar at mbaMission during the early stages of my deferred MBA journey, and her guidance was transformative. While I did not have the opportunity to work with Jessica on a full package, I took advantage of the free 30-min consultation that mbaMission offers. In just 30 minutes, she helped me see how parts of my background, like my military education, were actually strengths, not weaknesses. Jessica offered a realistic, thoughtful review of my profile and gave me the confidence to pursue programs I once thought were out of reach. Her generosity and insight were invaluable, especially for someone like me who was doubting their potential. I’m incredibly grateful for her support and highly recommend her to any MBA hopeful.

Jessica Shklar #1

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I was incredibly fortunate to work with Jessica Shklar on my MBA applications during the Round 1 2024 cycle. As an international applicant, I was completely unfamiliar with the US MBA admissions process and in desperate need of trusted guidance.

In my country, using admissions consultants is virtually unheard of, so I approached the process with a healthy dose of scepticism. I spoke with several of the top consultants for initial consultations (all the big names you’d know)—but from the very first call, Jessica stood out. Not only did she have a deep understanding of the admissions landscape, but it was clear she had thoroughly reviewed my profile beforehand. Within minutes, she demonstrated a sharp grasp of my strengths, weaknesses, and how best to position me for each school. On top of that, her enthusiasm was infectious—I immediately felt she was someone who would be firmly in my corner. I knew right then that I had to work with her.

I initially planned to apply to eight schools in Round 1—a daunting workload—but Jessica kept me focused, organised, and confident. We spent hours brainstorming and refining ideas, crafting a distinctive narrative that could be tailored to each application (each one is truly different!). Her feedback was always direct, structured, and deeply insightful.

Jessica’s ‘superpower’ is her ability to uncover powerful stories in your life—ones you didn’t even know existed. She helped me identify themes and patterns I had long overlooked and pushed me to articulate them in my own authentic voice, stepping in only when I veered off course. Her brainstorming sessions are, quite frankly, legendary—I’ve never met someone more skilled at shaping compelling, creative, and unique narratives (and at rapid pace).

Beyond her immense talent, Jessica genuinely cares about her clients. She was generous with her time, accommodating time zone differences. When I felt overwhelmed or unsure, she offered steady reassurance and helped me regain clarity and focus. When I doubted certain aspects of my profile, she proactively leveraged the broader resources of mbaMission, even brainstorming ideas with her colleagues to make sure we had the strongest possible approach.

Thanks to Jessica’s support, I was ultimately accepted into three M7 schools. Without her, I truly don’t think I would have even come close.
Do yourself a favour and invest in your future—trust Jessica. You won’t regret it.
