Jessica Shklar Reviews

Company: mbaMission

After graduating from Harvard College with a degree in anthropology, Jessica Shklar worked in nonprofit education, first doing curriculum development for an adult education center and then in the admissions office of a small university in Los Angeles, where she advised applicants to both the undergraduate college and several graduate programs, including business school. While there, she developed and delivered workshops around the country on Selecting the Right College and How to Write an Effective Application Essay. Having been accepted to every business school to which she applied, including Stanford, Kellogg and Yale, Jessica ultimately chose to attend HBS, where she completed her MBA with distinction (graduating in the top 10%). She has worked at several Fortune 100 companies, including American Express and JPMorgan Chase, where she was the quality leader and a senior vice president for Chase Home Finance. Jessica is also a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, with specific expertise in Six Sigma deployment and initialization.

Jessica was a true partner to me

I first met Jessica on a 30 minute call to assess my application to b-school. I had been waffling for the whole year on whether I should apply to school and there were only ~8 weeks until round 2 deadlines. Working together wasn’t on the table as all of her slots for that cycle were filled. Though she had little to gain from our call, I found her to be forthcoming, honest, and extremely knowledgeable. When one of her applicants decided to defer and a spot opened up, I jumped at the chance to work with her.

Though I had an extremely tight schedule and a mountain of work to do, Jessica was never daunted. She was truthful about how much work I had to do, but encouraging and confident that I could do it. Her experience and advice saved me countless hours of effort(e.g. should I take the GMAT or GRE? now that I have my GRE score, is it good enough or should I retake it or work on my essays more? Who should my recommenders be?). She helped me focus my efforts on the parts of my application that needed it the most. Throughout the flurry of essay edits, Jessica was extremely responsive (more than she needed to be) and I found her suggestions for me to be thoughtful and grounded in her years of experience of working with applicants. In fact, one of my recommenders mentioned that he strongly considered working with Jessica on his own applications (and one his close friends from b-school had and loved working with her). Truly, no question of mine was too big or too small for her and she treated them all with a distinct level of care.

Jessica helped me approach a very unstructured challenge (that I wasn’t very prepared for) with a modicum of efficiency and confidence. Without her, I don’t think I’d be gearing up to head to Columbia for business school this year. I am walking away from the experience of working with her more confident in myself and my own story and journey. I’d recommend Jessica to everyone and anyone.

While I did not formally work with Jessica during my MBA application process, she had a meaningful impact on my journey nonetheless.

What stood out most was her generosity with her time and expertise. Despite not being a paying client, she was always willing to help – whether through a quick call, prompt responses to my emails, or thoughtful guidance at critical decision points. Her insights were consistently valuable and demonstrated a deep understanding of top business schools and the nuances of finding the right fit for each applicant.

I would wholeheartedly recommend working with Jessica. Her genuine willingness to help, combined with her knowledge, honesty, and mentorship, makes her far more than just an admissions consultant, she becomes a trusted partner throughout the MBA application process. Anyone would be fortunate to have her support and guidance on their journey.

Jessica Schklar: The Real Deal!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I worked with Jessica on my applications to HBS and Stanford GSB, and she was absolutely fantastic throughout the entire process. She helped me ensure that my personality and experience came through in my applications. It was always clear that she had put significant effort and consideration into feedback. The applications took a massive amount of time and effort, but it was always heartening to know that I had someone like Jessica in my corner. I was ultimately waitlisted at Stanford GSB and admitted to HBS, which was my top choice. Jessica was truly outstanding to work with; I highly recommend working with her!

I cannot say enough positive things about Jessica Shklar from MBAMission. From the moment we first met over Zoom, I knew that having her in my corner would put me in the strongest possible position. I decided to apply to schools on a relatively compressed timeline, and Jessica supported me through every stage of the process. Her guidance was invaluable.

Jessica has a unique combination of qualities that make her an elite MBA consultant. She has deep knowledge of the nuances of each school and knows how to position candidates effectively. When it came to positioning my story, she took the time to get to know me as a person before diving into my professional background. Not only did she help me articulate my story effectively, but she also helped me reach a deeper understanding of myself, my past decisions, and future ambitions, which I was not expecting at all.

Working with Jessica was simply easy. She responded to my emails with remarkable speed and clarity. She is a skilled communicator and knows when to be direct (and how to deliver direct feedback), when to nurture an anxious mind, and when to offer praise. She is honest, constructive, and always kind. She gave me the time and space to express my anxieties and uncertainties, while not letting me get bogged down by them. She is extremely smart and her emotional intelligence is exceptional. She is the definition of a professional, but also extremely likeable and fun to talk to. She was genuinely and personally invested in my success, which felt amazing.

Working with Jessica was the best decision I made, and I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone seeking guidance while navigating the MBA process.

Working with Jessica is the best decision I made during my mba application

After 2 unsuccessful application cycles, I was in very low spirits, embarrassed and unsure how to proceed. I stumbled on an mbamission reel on Youtube and after hearing Jessica speak, booked a free consultation. She listened as I detailed my experiences, pointed out some areas where I may have fallen short in previous applications and encouraged me to not give up. I felt so comfortable speaking with her that I immediately opted in.

From the start, she spent time really getting to know me as a person. I especially loved that she showed me how painful / disappointing past experiences shaped me into the person I am and used the bits and pieces to develop a compelling story.

As I fleshed out my essays, she's was so good at asking questions I did not consider, challenging me to look deeper. She provided constructive feedback in a manner that made me want to do better so much so that when my cv and essays were done, I compared them with versions from previous application cycles and suffice to say the difference was clear.

Working with Jessica felt like having a partner who truly wanted me to succeed. She encouraged, critiqued, challenged and accommodated my terrible turnaround times as I juggled applications with work all resulting in my submitting a stellar application. I got in!

Told her I'll be her biggest cheerleader and I mean it. She's the best!

Jessica is the best of the best!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Working with Jessica was one of the best investments I made during the MBA admissions process. Applying to programs like Sloan School of Management and HBS felt overwhelming at first, especially because my background in private banking and family office strategy is somewhat niche and difficult to explain in a compelling, differentiated way. Jessica helped me translate years of complex work into a clear and authentic story that actually reflected who I am.

What stood out most was her ability to push beyond generic MBA “branding” advice. She challenged me to articulate not only what I had accomplished, but why it mattered.

Jessica was also incredibly strong at balancing encouragement with honest feedback. She knew when an essay sounded overly polished, too corporate, or disconnected emotionally, and she pushed me to be more reflective and specific without losing my voice. I especially appreciated how collaborative the process felt.

I would strongly recommend Jessica to anyone applying to top MBA programs, especially candidates with unconventional stories or highly nuanced professional backgrounds. She has a rare ability to identify what makes someone genuinely distinctive and help them communicate it with clarity and confidence.

mbaMission Review - Jessica Shklar

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

Exceptional would be an understatement to describe my experience working with Jessica.

I originally met Jessica after speaking with multiple potential consultants, and from that very first conversation, it was evident she was the right partner for me. Since day one, it was clear that she is extremely knowledgeable, qualified, and experienced in top-tier MBA admissions, while also providing honest and constructive feedback. But most importantly, she is truly an incredible coach—always in my corner, finding the exceptional aspects of my story that I may not have seen myself.

From the beginning, Jessica was thorough in understanding every aspect of my professional, personal, and academic background, helping me shape my experiences into a cohesive narrative and develop in-depth applications that brought the best of my story forward. What started as an anxious process became an empowering one, where her guidance paired thoughtful story development with detailed essay & resume coaching. Our calls were where I gained the most insights into the admissions process, as a result of her expertise. Throughout this experience, she was always invested in helping me bring out the best in my applications, while also providing tactical feedback on where I could improve.

As a result, I was accepted to all three programs that I applied to, including both HBS and Stanford GSB. Without a doubt, I wouldn't have accomplished this without her. I believe that Jessica finds what makes people exceptional in their stories.

Although I know this process is primarily focused on gaining admission to these schools, I do want to emphasize that the application process itself was lifechanging for me. Jessica was more than a consultant, she was also an incredibly impactful coach. She makes you believe in yourself, understands your story, and helps you bring the best of who you are to these applications, all while bringing her knowledge, experience, and expertise in top-tier MBA admissions.

I am very grateful that I had Jessica as an advisor alongside me through this journey. She is an experienced expert within this field, and also a true mentor. I could not recommend her enough.

A true partner throughout the MBA application process,

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Working with Jessica was the best decision I made when deciding to apply to business school.

She is incredibly knowledgeable about MBA programs. In fact, the schools I applied to were largely based on her expertise and understanding of what I was looking for in a program - and the school I ultimately chose ended up being a perfect fit.

Beyond knowing exactly which programs aligned with my goals and what each school was looking for in a candidate, Jessica was exceptional at helping me identify the right stories to tell about myself. After just one call, I felt like she understood me deeply and helped me craft essays that authentically highlighted my strengths.

For both my essays and resume, she pushed me to be more concise, direct, and impactful in my writing. Her feedback was honest, specific, and incredibly thoughtful, which ultimately helped me gain admission to almost every program I applied to.

As someone with ADHD, standardized testing has always been a challenge for me. Jessica not only helped build my confidence throughout that process, but also guided me toward alternative testing options accepted by the programs I was targeting. She recommended tutoring companies she knew had strong track records and even connected me with an incredible tutor who specialized in working with students with ADHD. I ultimately achieved my dream score and got into my dream school.

If you are looking for a true partner throughout the MBA application process, I cannot recommend Jessica highly enough. She never misses a deadline, is often early with feedback, and has an incredible ability to make what feels like an overwhelming process feel straightforward and manageable.

Thank you Jessica

Working with Jessica was one of the best decisions I made during my MBA application process. Her guidance was thoughtful, strategic, and genuinely personalized—and it changed the quality of my application and the confidence I had submitting it.
From day one, Jessica helped me get to the heart of my story. She took time to understand my professional background and the personal experiences behind it—what motivates me, what I value, and where I’m headed. She then helped me pull out clear themes and shape them into a narrative that felt authentic, cohesive, and compelling.
She’s also incredibly good at asking the questions you didn’t realize you needed. Jessica balanced encouragement with direct, constructive feedback, and she pushed me to be clearer and more specific—especially when articulating my goals and impact. I walked away with a much stronger point of view and a sharper way of communicating it.
Jessica has a great eye for detail without ever taking over your voice. She helped me tighten language, strengthen structure, and elevate the polish of my essays and short answers—while making sure everything still sounded like me. The final product felt like the best, most intentional version of my own work.
Jessica brings strong judgment, empathy, and exceptional communication skills to every step of the process. I recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone applying to MBA programs who wants a consultant that will help you find your story, sharpen your message, and feel supported from start to finish.

One of the Best Decisions I've Made

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

Due to Jessica’s guidance, I went 6/6 on acceptances and earned $400K in scholarships. But far deeper than that, she helped me find my voice.

What moved me most was how deeply she listened. She took my scattered stories, anxieties, and ambitions and uncovered the emotional and strategic thread beneath them. She has a rare gift for finding, and gently elevating, your true voice, even when you’re still searching for it yourself.

She masterfully balances big-picture strategy with line-by-line execution. She saw patterns I could not see and went far beyond editing my words—drawing out insights I hadn’t fully articulated, then translating them into compelling narratives that felt unmistakably my own. I left every conversation more connected to the person I want to become.

She is a wise advocate for you—and exactly who you want in your corner to help you achieve your highest potential.
