I'll start off by saying that I owe my GMAT Quant score (49, up from...much lower than that) pretty much entirely to Target Test Prep. Coming into my GMAT prep, I hadn't taken a standardized test in almost 10 years and had not thought about geometry, probability or rate problems since probably freshman year of college. TTP was perfect for me because it really walks you through every major topic and hammers you with questions to make sure you're really comfortable with each type of problem you'd see on the test.
TTP might not be a good fit for you if:
-you're not a self-directed learner, since there aren't scheduled classes or accountability.
-you don't have the time to put into it. I got through it in 3 months doing 3-6 hours per day, and wouldn't recommend skipping modules or tests
-you already have a strong foundation in the quant topics. While I still think there's value to be found in the sheer amount of practice questions TTP has, it really breaks down topics that I could imagine might be oversimplified if you're more recently familiar with these topics
My advice is to do the free trial and see how you like the style of the lessons and answer explanations. The video and written explanations for problems really clicked with me, so I knew pretty quickly this was going to be the program for me. The interface is really clean and easy to navigate too, which I appreciated.
Target Test Prep is the fastest way to get to a perfect or near perfect Quant score. I started off at the <50th percentile because I had forgotten / never learned many of the key concepts of the GMAT and found myself scoring a 780 on the official GMAT within 6 weeks. I have five other friends who used Target and all of them score 50 or 51.
I definitely recommend a software like Target over a tutoring course. Everyone I know who has used a tutoring service ends up taking 4+ months to complete their GMAT study because you have to go at the tutor's pace and then feel a sense of completion once the tutoring is over. Target lets you go at your own pace - I put 2-3 hours in every day to cover the material quickly (an approach I would highly recommend) and always knew exactly how much material I still had not covered.
The team did a fantastic job developing this product and it cost very little relative to the quality. I had done zero quant prep heading into the course and over a few months (while working full time) was able to score a 47Q in my first GMAT attempt. The course does a good job of walking you through scenarios and question formats that you're likely to see on test day. I learned alot of clever ways to rearrange questions and to organize my work.
Huge thanks to TTP, they did a great job. I learned alot and feel good about my score.
I took the GMAT online class with Jamie. Jamie is a great instructor. She does a great job of providing you tricks and tips to ace the GMAT. My score jumped 90 points from the beginning of the class. She is also does a good job providing student specific strategies. I have test accommodations and she was able to provide me strategies specific to my accommodations. She also keeps in touch with you after the class to provide you any additional advice or resources you may need. I highly recommend taking the class with Jamie. I can also say that not all instructors at Manhattan prep are the same and the instructor you get makes a huge difference. Before choosing your class be sure to look up reviews on the instructor.

I started my GMAT journey in the summer of 2019. I took a practice test and scored a 640-- I wasn't sweating it because I had been out of school for a few years and I knew I could brush up on the quant rather quickly (or so I thought). Just for reference, I have a masters degree in chemical engineering.
Kaplan
I signed up for private tutoring with Kaplan online 10 hour course. I watched some of the lessons, but quickly got bored. They were slow.. I did not feel my tutor was very helpful and about halfway through I started searching for alternatives. (I've had good luck with Kaplan for LSAT (scoring a 167) but this does not seem to be their strength).
In Person tutoring
I did two months of in-person tutoring and was able to increase from 640 practice tests to a 690 real GMAT test. I took the GMAT 3 times (690,Cancelled,690) and wasn't making much progress. I was having timing issues in the quant section (either too fast or too slow). I often panicked when I got to a quant problem that I felt I should know, but couldnt think how to solve. I was frustrated with this tutor (who also crossed some professional boundaries) because usually standardized tests are a strength of mine, but the GMAT was winning.
Manhattan Prep Advanced online course
This is where Mark comes in, after 3 attempts at the GMAT, I was willing to try something new. I signed up for the advanced online class through Manhattan prep. I typically stay away from online group study classes because it's easy for me to get distracted completely defeating the point..
Mark's advanced online class was excellent. It skips the basics and jumps right into how to increase your score. He keeps everyone engaged by "cold calling" which kept me from playing on my phone and I learned a lot from my classmates. What I learned especially on verbal was that while I may have gotten the right answer, it wasn't necessarily always for the right reasons!
I also challenged myself to make sure I did ALL the homework in between the lessons. I really enjoyed the Manhattan prep video lessons that they had on topics. I watched all of them multiple times. However, my mistake here was that I did not do all the practice tests. Therefore I still struggled with timing and test stress when I took my 4th GMAT a month after the class finished.
My score improved (finally!) to a 710 (Q44, V44). My verbal score benefited the most from the advanced online class and I went from a 40 to a 44.
Mark Sullivan Private Tutoring
I was happier with the 710, but still not satisfied. I really felt I had more I could do on the quant. I reached out to Mark to see if he was available to help me while I prep for my 5th and final GMAT about a month later. Luckily he was and we got started right away.
Working with Mark for private tutoring after the Advanced Online class was absolutely the right choice for me. I had the strong base (from doing all the homework) and I knew how he taught. We were able to build on that really quickly and I improved every tutoring session. He had me practice every day on timing and I did regular practice tests. The private tutoring was great because then we could really expand on my unique questions.
Thanks to Mark I had a 40 point improvement in my GMAT score!
I was a humanities major in college and took the GMAT years after any formal math education. I have never been stellar in quantitative subjects, but had a decent foundation in concepts. I credit my quantitative score almost entirely to the few months I used TTP. I used some books and other guides to supplement, but I believe the TTP program is what truly made the breakthrough difference from low 40s to high 40s/50 on practice tests.
The modules are easy to follow and are complemented perfectly by the equation guide. I used the equation guide as essentially a review sheet before taking practice tests and the real thing- something that I believe helped immensely. I was routinely hitting 47-50 scores on practice tests leading up to my official test. I bought into the program- I did all of the quizzes as recommended. At times it did seem like overkill and I just wanted to move on, but I trusted the process. Sticking with this advice definitely helped as many of the concepts and steps in problem identification became second nature to me.
In terms of customer service, any time I had any sort of question, Scott or a member of the TTP team responded almost immediately. Scott showed in interest in my path and followed up after the program to see how everything went.
I recommend this program to anyone studying the GMAT and needs that boost in the math section. I only wish that TTP would come out with a Verbal section as well. If they do, I will purchase the program again.
The Manhattan Prep online course I took was taught by Emily Madan. She was very detail-oriented, insightful and all around helpful in my GMAT pursuit. I started the class in August of this year and studied/did homework religiously. My original score was a 610 and quant was my biggest weak point. Emily was great in every class and always challenged us. The format is typically a topic from a combination of verbal/quant/IR and then example questions on that topic. She gave us plenty of strategies to use on test day. I would highly recommend using Emily to anyone wanting to improve their scores. I went from a 610 to a 690. It took me 4 months of hard studying and it definitely paid off. I would recommend Manhattan Prep/Emily to anyone looking to strengthen GMAT scores.
Target Test Prep is one stop prep material for GMAT quant portions. You absolutely need nothing more for this section! The material and the questions are so exhaustive, I'm definite these lessons can be used for other aptitude tests coaching as well.
I used TTP for Quant and Manhattan Prep for Verbal. After thoroughly analysing my weak areas and mistakes with 6 Manhattan Prep CATs and 6 GMAT Official prep exams, my actual GMAT score shot up by 160 points - from 560 to 720. Make thorough notes of mistakes as well as better solutions provided even if you got the answers correct. It's okay if your mock exam scores fluctuate because they will until you get a firm grip on applying the concepts you learn.
While exploring my ways to get through the 700 benchmark which is much required to get through a B-school in India or abroad, I came across a pool of GMAT courses, test series etc available online. All the courses offered good analytics to gauge your performance and the course contents were mostly similar to that of GMAT official guide, so i narrowed my choices based on the course fees. That is when my friend advised for a course from Expert's Global. They offered sound analytics to gauge my performance and while attempting actual GMAT, I found their verbal preparation was similar to what is asked in GMAT, which helped me a lot as i struggled with Verbal. The best part of associating myself with Exper's Global was the course helped me to develop a fundamental approach to problem solving, which in my opinion is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to crack an exam, irrespective of whether you are preparing on your own or with some preparation courses. However, i felt Quant was little tougher than actual GMAT which is a good news for those who struggle with Quant. In nut shell Expert's Global offers much more that what it charges for. My personal advice to all those preparing for GMAT is that you pick courses which helps you to develop a fundamental approach to problem solving and not on the basis of the quantum of contents that it offers. Most of the courses offer long video lectures, big question bank and charge heftily for that. All that is not required. Quality is more important than quantity.
Purchased the Magoosh quant material to improve from Q46 to Q50. The questions cover all the major topics that are tested on the gmat. You get around 700 questions in the question bank along with some detailed topic wise videos which are definitely a must have to build on the concepts. You can easily improve a couple of points using this course. I was able to improve my quant score from Q46 TO Q49. Although Q50 Q51 remain elusive to me, I felt the concepts and questions will definitely give you boost in the quant section. All the best in quant.
How was Manhattan Prep for Verbal?
Could you specify your Q/V for before and after score improvement?
Thanks!
Manhattan prep for Verbal was excellent. I used three of their guides: CR, SC and RC and rigorously practiced their 6 free CAT tests and HW material online. I scored V23 on my first attempt which shot to V38 on my third.
