I scored Q48 on the real GMAT, but being from an overrepresented demographic, I decided to try and boost my Q score. I took a chance on e-GMAT.
This course would be a great starting point if you're scoring below 48 or just beginning your quant studies. Unfortunately, this wasn't a good use of my time. Since I already had such a solid understanding of the concepts, I spent much of the course filtering out what to "re-learn" in the e-GMAT way. The course material is incredibly comprehensive - Japinder and Harsh were particularly great instructors - but there was absolutely NO focus on test-taking strategy (which in my opinion, is at least 40% of scoring in the 80th percentile and above).
My score on the real GMAT actually decreased. I suspect that trying to learn e-GMAT's methods was overkill for someone like me who had already put in months of study. In addition, I was very disappointed in Payal's response - she simply said that I must have made silly errors, implied e-GMAT had nothing to do with it, and then told me my score was good enough anyways so there was no point in retaking. So disappointing, especially because I've been so impressed by Payal's SC seminars!
Overall, if you are already scoring 48+, I advise looking elsewhere to focus on test-taking strategy and deep error analysis.
I took my first GMAT exam in February 2014, with disappointing results. After a year of not studying/thinking about business school, I decided to give the GMAT another go.
I signed up for Magoosh Premium to compliment the MGMAT strategy guides. I followed Mike's comprehensive 12-week study plan for advanced students. The Magoosh question bank and video lessons were extremely helpful. I particularly liked the feature that allowed you go move from the question bank to a relevant lesson, and back, without losing your place. The results summary on the dashboard helped me track my progress and provided a much needed confidence boost heading into test day.
I ultimately scored 730 on the real thing. I do not think I could have done that without the supporting material provided by Magoosh.
My GMAT score when I first took a trial test without any form of preparation whatsoever was 620.
In three weeks, I took the real GMAT and got a score of 740.
Magoosh GMAT math is extremely thorough. They have 800+ questions, that you can work on, by difficulty level. They have excellent (video) solution explanations for each question, that teach you the shortest way to get to the answer.
Magoosh verbal covers the main points. It's good, but I think it takes more than this to substantially increase your verbal score.
Overall, I am very happy with this prep tool and my GMAT results. Thank you Magoosh!
Hi guys,
Grammar was always my weakness, but I could solve that, at least in the GMAT. I would like to say that I am more than happy with e-GMAT Verbal Online. I had taken 21 / 26% in the Verbal section of the GMAT, after that I signed in the curse and concluded it, so I took 38 / 85%.
Consequently, I was admitted at the University of Texas class 2017!
I believe that the best thing of this course is its approach. They have a very analytical approach to teach grammar, which in my point of view, is easier to understand.
I think that if there is something that they could improve is the platform, it is a Flash based platform and, as far I am concerned, it is not supported on iPhone and iPads.
e-gmat is one of the best course I have opted till date. I tried various courses which offered shortcuts for sentence correction, which I merely used to mug-up and few times caught off guard when a new question pops up in exam, but after taking e-gmat course, I even read news papers with view of dependent and independent clause notations.
Initially I struggled to get compatible with online course but once I got used to it, things working as charm. I'm even opting to go away with paperback and get a Kindle soon.
Honestly I recommend the course for any once who wish to improve there verbal skills.
The Magoosh course was straight to the point and just what I needed to get prepped for the GMAT in under a month of study time. Going in I had no idea of even the format of the exam and Magoosh went from start to finish explaining everything along the way.
1. The videos provided answered the all of the OG questions and were very detailed
2. They gave test tips and strategies for getting it right!
3. You could study specific topics if needed and customize to the max
Overall I can only say great things about the Magoosh GMAT services. They are well worth the money and will improve you score for sure. They guarantee it!

Well I drifted onto Magoosh after a friend vouched for his experience with their package for GRE. Till that point of time I was good in quant but lagging in verbal, still in the 35ish level. What I needed was above 40.
Verbal : Magoosh understands (as I do now ) that the student needs to have a good understanding of grammar, sentence structure, etc and that's where their 'lessons' come in. The material is easy to understand in the video format and you can put in your own notes for later review. Its gives just the right amount of extra knowledge which goes beyond what is tested in the GMAT. But that's not enough. Practicing the problems is where the real value of Magoosh comes in. You can select the type of questions you want, the time you want to give yourself and customize it a bit. You should view the solutions to each and every question in the pack. Being able to see how every problem is solved, will give you a sixth sense when you are in your official exam, especially for SC. The questions here are not very tough, though they are very representative of the actual exam.
Quant : Nothing special to mention here except that they do a good job of covering even the most basic theory in the lesson videos. Practice questions are representative of actual GMAT, Questions of 'very hard' difficulty will challenge you from time to time and good practice if you want a 50 in quant.
Pros : Question video solutions, don't forget the freely available solutions to the Official guide questions on you tube. More stress on teaching grammar before giving solution strategy is a good technique. Score prediction is accurate.
Cons : Question Pool is limited. No ability to create tests from the question pool (was in beta at the time I used Magoosh)
To be really honest, guaranteed improvement of at least 4 marks in verbal tempted me to join e-gmat verbal live prep course in the first place. But as i went on with the course, i realized that the course is designed with such expertise of the exam that the improvement in the GMAT score is very much obvious if one finishes the entire course with utmost dedication and concentration.
After completing the e-gmat verbal course, i was confident of tackling any verbal question that comes my way. The most effective part of the course is SCHOLARANIUM section. The quantity and quality of questions in scholaranium helps you to analyze your weak areas and tackle them effectively. You can customize practice sets according to your needs and work on various areas with utmost precision. I recommend e-gmat verbal live prep course to every GMAT test taker.
Thanks a lot E-GMAT.

I have been scouting for a lot of prep courses for GMAT verbal. But none came as close to eGmat in regards to the clarity and depth. As a working professional, I like the flexibility that the course provides and the pace as which I am able to cover the concepts.
A big difference in my approach has been tackling SC questions. i was able to change my approach to SC questions and now pay more attention to meaning & Structure rather than just grammar and rules. This has significantly improved my overall score
Key factors :
- Good CR & SC strategies
- Excellent Concept files with a lot of Practice questions
- Live sessions are really good with simple and yet insightful explanation. Rajat & payal are very good at explaining the process and errors.
- Good explanation to OG questions.
I gave my 1st Gmat around 10 months back and managed only getting 28 in verbal. In fact, I was getting around the same score in online test such as Manhattan, Princeton etc. Then on recommendation of a friend, I joined e-Gmat. The story has been completely different since then. The course content is very nicely made and easy to comprehend. Video files backed by audio explanations helps in better concentration, are easy to remember and less time consuming. I have started giving online tests recently & the score has reached on avg. 37. My score in all 3 sections have improved. Thanks e-Gmat a lot. Please keep the good work.
I am very sorry that the poster – Jeena - was not able to improve her score. Our goal is to help every student improve and we guarantee the score improvement. Unfortunately Jeena (the posted in question), could not improve her score, and accordingly we refunded her entire amount right away.
"The Course and Test Taking Strategies"
As Jeena noted, the course is quite comprehensive and we had to extremely dedicated instructors in Japinder and Harsh who go to great lengths to help our students. The fact that they work full time doing just that helps a lot. The course did help Jeena (the student in question) improve as well, as evident from the fact that she was constantly able to score Q50 in GMAT Prep and other mocks - a feat that she probably was not able to achieve in her first attempt. Similarly the course has helped multiple numerous students ace GMAT Quant as evident from debriefs such as the one below and from the fact that the course has overwhelmingly positive reviews (96%+). There is no Quant Only course ion the forum that parallels the same.

"Sometimes the Simplest Explanations are the Best"
I know that we all like to uncover sophisticated reasons for not doing well on the GMAT. However, sometimes the simplest of reasons are the ones that make the most sense, especially in this case. In general there are 5 reasons that a student scores really poorly on the test:
1. The student is not prepared well enough
2. The student loses stamina (should not matter for Quant).
3. The student makes careless mistakes in the initial questions?
4. The student makes mistakes throughout the test.
5. The student is nervous about the timed nature of the test.
Now let’s put this in context for Jeena – the student in question here. Jeena scored 730 in her second attempt, improving her Verbal score from V41 to V45; i.e. she score 99 percentile on GMAT Verbal. Also, prior to her second attempt, Jeena consistently scored Q50 on her mocks. Lastly, Jeena has attempted the GMAT twice and has scored really well on both attempts, indicating that she is not a nervous test taker.
Considering all of the above, it’s very clear that Jeena was not exhausted in Quant, otherwise she would not have been able to score V45 in Verbal. Similarly, given that she is a good test taker and given she consistently scored Q50 in her mocks and given that she did the course reasonably well, it’s safe to assume that she prepared well. Now where that does leave us – careless mistakes.
We understand that such situations are unfortunate and that is why we offer full refund as a consolation in the event that you do not score well. I know that the intent of taking the course is not to get a refund however that’s the most that we, as a test prep company, can do to ease the pain. The last thing that I want to say is that out of the 1400+ Quant Students that we have had during the last 10 months, 96% of them have improved better than the guarantee that we offer. Had we not done so, we would not have had so many positive verified reviews.
I did send this detailed explanation to Jeena recently and she did agree to the same. Below is a screenshot of her email.

In the end, I wish her good luck for her applications. 730 is a great score and will push her case at any school of her choosing.
