Explanation:
Options A and E nonsensically imply that Eratosthenes was responsible for Earth's axial tilt. Hence A and C are out.

Options B and D have parallelism error. Two entities separated by "and" should have parallel structure. In this case calculation of circumference of earth and (calculation) of Earth's axial tilt should be parallel. This is not the case in both option B and D. Hence out.

Option C has both the entities parallel (indicated by the usage of "of" after "and").

Hence ANSWER C.

Answer should be D.
A&E can be eliminated for wrong parallelism (using for)
C has modifier error
Between B & D, the word usage is more suitable than "the use"

By comparing the options we can find the major difference is in the last word. We need to choose b/w {for,of,NA}

If we see the given sentence carefully there is a parallelism

who was
chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria and
is known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and
for the Earth’s axial tilt as well as
for his introduction of the sieve of Eratosthenes

All other parallelisms are correct except known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and for the Earth’s axial tilt

Calculation of circumference and Calculation of axial tilt, by meaning. Hence need of instead of for.

POE based on parallelism

(A) usage of an Olympiad as a unit of time in ancient histories is sometimes credited to Eratosthenes, who was chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria and is known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and for

(B) the use of an Olympiad as a unit of time in ancient histories is sometimes credited to Eratosthenes, who was chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria and is known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and Need of

(A) usage of an Olympiad as a unit of time in ancient histories is sometimes credited to Eratosthenes, who was chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria and is known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and for
--> "usage" would be incorrect over here as it does not signify the act of using something.
"and for" is incorrect since the "calculation of" is the point of fanning of the clause and not "known for"

(B) the use of an Olympiad as a unit of time in ancient histories is sometimes credited to Eratosthenes, who was chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria and is known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and
--> no issues

(C) the use of an Olympiad as a unit of time in ancient histories is sometimes credited to Eratosthenes, chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria, known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and of
--> missed the main verb after the introduction of the "Eratosthenes". The structure refers to someone from the present day.

(D) usage of an Olympiad as a unit of time in ancient histories is sometimes credited to Eratosthenes, who was chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria and known for his calculation of the circumference of the Earth and
--> "usage" would be incorrect over here as it does not signify the act of using something.
"and known for" is incorrect since he continues to be known for it

To find our answer, let us look for 4 incorrect options.

1. Option A and E convey the illogical meaning that Eratosthenes was known for the Earth's axial tilt hence these options are incorrect.

2. Option D conveys the meaning that Eratosthenes was known for his calculation of the circumference of the "Earth and Earth's axial tilt" as one entity which is incorrect.

3. Option C conveys the incorrect meaning that the Library of Alexandria is known for the calculation of the circumference of the earth which is incorrect.

Hence only option B is left and is our answer.
