Hi guys,
I'm feeling lost to be honest.
Took the GMAT today for the 2nd time and scored 590 Q33 V37.
If you hear my story, I think you will understand why I'm lost.
Firstly, I just graduated with a first class Maths degree in the summer. But I know GMAT quant is way different to uni level Maths but still I have a natural flair for Maths.
Secondly, my scores for my GMATPrep tests were the following:
Gmatprep 1: 640 Q44 V34
Gmatprep 2: 650 Q46 V34
Gmatprep 1 (repeat): 630 Q45 V31
Gmat REAL (1st attempt with 2 hours sleep): 530 Q30-something, V30-something (cancelled score)
I restarted my gmat test and with 3 weeks revision:
Gmat Exam pack 1 test 1: 640 Q42 V35
Gmat Exam pack 1 test 2: 700 Q48 V38 (day before real exam)
Gmat REAL 2nd attempt: 590 Q33 V36 (cancelled score)
I didn't overwork the day before. I had 9 hours sleep and I had plenty of energy in exam hence my verbal was higher than I expected and I felt fresh throughout the exam. I ate blueberries and drank lucozade in breaks and was relaxed throughout exam. The maths questions seemed ok, nothing out of the ordinary. I honestly thought I did as well if not slightly lower than my 700 score! Specifically, I managed my time ok, but I was 4 minutes down at one point and made up to about 2 minutes. I had to guess the last 2 questions. There were a few questions that stumped me which I should have got for e.g. 2 work rate questions. Also there were around 2 or 3 questions which I was close to answering but I went past the 3 minutes so I pushed my ego aside and took a calculated guess and moved on... I really don't know what went wrong! I'm happy with my verbal score, but it's just this quant, wtf happened!? Also my aim is 690.
The first time around I went through all
MGMAT 8 books including SC, CR, VR and all 5 quant books, making notes for each one and attempting atleast half of the questions at the back (
OG que).
This time around I did all
OG 17 questions for PS, DS and SC and I kept an
error log detailing what mistake I made and what I should have done for ALL quant
OG questions and for all SC questions. I went through and took notes of Sahil's SC notes. I also paid and did Gmat write and scored 5.
The only thing I didn't do was review my
error log again. However, I spent 5-7 mins at least when I was writing out my
error log, so it would have cemented atleast 50% right? I really dont think that can account for such a large discrepancy.
I have most resources at my fingertips including kaplan premier with 6 tests as well as powerscore bible, Spidey notes, advanced quant
mgmat,
mgmat class videos, workshops, paper tests, you name it. What I don't have is time on my side, as I work full time as a data analyst.
What plan should I follow and what revision should I prioritise? I've rebooked my test for 10th July (last submission possibility).
My current plan is to buy the Extended Special Report and see where I failed in quant. Steep price of £25 but it will at least help me target revision. I was going to buy exam pack 2 tests and go through all my failed questions in my
error log, but perhaps I could redo Exam pack 1 since I've only taken them once Also, I was planning on doing the
MGMAT advanced quant as well as cr powerscore bible.
Should I bother with the kaplan 6 tests and premier stuff? i've even got the kaplan book... What about the videos my
mgmat, the labs and classes etc.? I dont have time for those though...I also have 800-score tests as well as the
MGMAT practice tests. The only reason I havent touched these is because everyone keeps saying its best to go through official first and with my time restriction that is where my focus has stayed.
I would really appreciate any help or feedback or comments from you guys,
Thank you very much,
Ahmed
The first thing you need to do is order the Enhanced Score Report (ESR) of the gmat test you have recently given and identify the sections you have trouble and work on it. Moreover,
practice tests are really test your gmat rigor! Thought the quant test are quite harder than the actual tests it tends to build your quant skills for Q 49+, and the verbal test of
is as close as the real test than another other third party tests. Best of luck with your gmat studies.
