Let the Regular price of the dyer = X

Price of dryer after 15% reduction = 0.85 * X = $203.15

X = 203.15/0.85 = $ 239

Answer is B. $239

Because the full price was reduced by 15%, the reduced price is 85%, or 0.85, of the full price. We can let the original price of the dryer equal x and create the following equation:

0.85x = 203.15

x = 203.15/0.85 = 20315/85 = 239

Answer: B

It took me 0.30 sec to ans this question with calculation.

First step: Eliminate wrong answers.

Let x be the regular price of dryer. x > 203. Eliminate option D and E

Second step : Calculate 15 of actual selling price. Add this number to actual S.P.
The 15 % of regular S.P will be greater than 15 % of actual S.P

.85 x = 203.15. 15% of 203.15 = 30 (approx).

203.15 + 30 = 233.15 . Eliminate option C.

Indeed 15 % x > 30 [This number will be little more]

Option A is on higher side. Hence we will eliminate it.

The only option left is option B.

Ans: B

Algebraic Explanation

.85x = 203.15

x = \(\frac{(203.15 * 100)}{85}\) [If you think calculation is taking time.... use Ans option for quicker results. Multiply option A and B with 85 and check the result]

x= 239
