Hello to everyone,
I want to thank you all, team and members of the GMAT Club, because when I have to face difficult moments, and this is one of them, I can write to you and be understood by people who know the beast we are facing: the GMAT. I started my preparation at the end of 2020, while working full time as a Controller in a big manufacturing company in Italy, and after 2-3 months I was already able to consistently score in the range of 600-630 in my mock tests. I used different kinds of materials: The Economist Prep,
Manhattan Prep (books and Atlas), a private course in Milan, and
e-GMAT.
Here I put you my history of scores:
12 June 2021: V 35 / Q 39 / Total 610 / AWA 4 / IR 2
3 August 2021: V 34 / Q 40 / Total 610 / AWA 5 / IR 8
28 August 2021: V 30 / Q 42 / Total 590 / AWA - / IR - CANCELED
14 March 2022: V 40 / Q 37 / Total 640 / AWA 5 / IR 3
2 May 2022: V 26 / Q 40 / Total 560 / AWA - / IR 7 - CANCELED
I want to underline the fact that after having taken the GMAT on 28 August, I started my preparation using the
e-GMAT platform, and I have found it extremely useful. The only problem was that I was slow to proceed in my preparation, and I did not manage to finish the “cementing phase” of at least half of the quant part. What I cannot explain to myself is the big drop that I had in the verbal section in the last appointment: I did some questions everyday, while focusing on the quant part, but a drop from 40 to 26 is something that has destroyed my determination.
Now I am waiting for the decision of the SDA Bocconi AdCom regarding my profile. In case I want to retake the GMAT again, what will you suggest? My idea is to continue with the
e-GMAT platform but also adding some type of additional preparation from the GMAT Club, but what? I don’t want to use other materials, also because I find the resources provided by
e-GMAT sufficient and their supporting team is fantastic.
Useful tips for people starting their preparation: ok I have not achieved that magic 700 score, but I think that I can give some useful tips.
- Find the right resources and stick to them, don’t change platform every three months looking for the magic formula;
- Practice meditation (mindfulness of breathing) and sport can help you to be patient and resilient;
- Speak to other people, especially your family/partner, they can support you a lot;
- Be kind to yourself and don’t compare your score with others’; accept yourself as you are;
- Prepare for a journey, not for only a short period of preparation: you have to understand yourself and change some habits that you don’t want to change;
- Sleep and take a complete break one day a week;
- Use your
error log: it is not sufficient to create it, you have to use it everyday! I have understood this late.
- Take your GMAT when you are ready: forget the deadlines and everything. Taking the GMAT when you are not ready is something that can destroy your motivation and even cost you money.
If you’d like to tell me some insights or something, I would appreciate it.
Thank you for the support and good luck.
