massimassi92 – an excellent defender who enabled his team to win the world cup deflected the shot into his own goal. Has that defender lost his ability to stave off the center forwards and forwards, or did he have a bad day? The GMAT is very much like this football match (soccer for Americans), and your V25 is akin to a self-goal. To answer this question, you will look for clues on the following:

1. Was this defender working on his defending skills in the days leading up to the match?
2. Was he completely focused on defending, or was he distracted by something else, such as transitioning into a center forward?
3. Has his performance while defending been dipping consistently?
4. Was this a freak case of deflection or something very regular?
.. and a few more.

While I don’t know your e-GMAT stats, given your performance on GMAT Verbal in recent times (Four V34, V35, and most recently V40), I would be compelled to say that you had a bad day. Your GMAT Strategy expert can probably look at your stats and give you more insights.

What should you do about Verbal going forward?
Given the data I see here, I would consider your Verbal ability to be between V35 and V40. Why not one or the other? Because I have not seen your Scholarnaium stats. More than your mock attempts, your Scholaranium stats (the consistency of the last 20 stats or the lack of skew in the same) is a much better indicator of your actual ability. You will see an update next week where you will be able to measure that skew.

How should you plan your preparation?
The bigger challenge for you is Quant. Finish cementing in Quant and get Quant to Q46+. You can easily get there by August if you put in time consistently. Also, your performance improves considerably once you cross the thresholds for cementing in all 5 courses.
Then to test readiness in Quant.

What should you do about Verbal?
Worry about Verbal once you are done with Quant. Your Strategy Expert will be able to create a comeback plan for the same.

When should you practice questions on GMAT Club?
Once you are done with cementing and test readiness. Remember, your goal with this practice is to refine. So, fill your error log by doing a strategic review of your mistakes. The more time you spend reviewing, the fewer questions you need to practice to improve.

Write to me (you know where) if you have questions about the above.
Good luck and stay focused!

Hello to everyone,
I want to thank you all, team and members of the GMAT Club, because when I have to face difficult moments, and this is one of them, I can write to you and be understood by people who know the beast we are facing: the GMAT. I started my preparation at the end of 2020, while working full time as a Controller in a big manufacturing company in Italy, and after 2-3 months I was already able to consistently score in the range of 600-630 in my mock tests. I used different kinds of materials: The Economist Prep, Manhattan Prep (books and Atlas), a private course in Milan, and e-GMAT.

Here I put you my history of scores:
12 June 2021: V 35 / Q 39 / Total 610 / AWA 4 / IR 2
3 August 2021: V 34 / Q 40 / Total 610 / AWA 5 / IR 8
28 August 2021: V 30 / Q 42 / Total 590 / AWA - / IR - CANCELED
14 March 2022: V 40 / Q 37 / Total 640 / AWA 5 / IR 3
2 May 2022: V 26 / Q 40 / Total 560 / AWA - / IR 7 - CANCELED

I want to underline the fact that after having taken the GMAT on 28 August, I started my preparation using the e-GMAT platform, and I have found it extremely useful. The only problem was that I was slow to proceed in my preparation, and I did not manage to finish the “cementing phase” of at least half of the quant part. What I cannot explain to myself is the big drop that I had in the verbal section in the last appointment: I did some questions everyday, while focusing on the quant part, but a drop from 40 to 26 is something that has destroyed my determination.

Now I am waiting for the decision of the SDA Bocconi AdCom regarding my profile. In case I want to retake the GMAT again, what will you suggest? My idea is to continue with the e-GMAT platform but also adding some type of additional preparation from the GMAT Club, but what? I don’t want to use other materials, also because I find the resources provided by e-GMAT sufficient and their supporting team is fantastic.

Useful tips for people starting their preparation: ok I have not achieved that magic 700 score, but I think that I can give some useful tips.
- Find the right resources and stick to them, don’t change platform every three months looking for the magic formula;
- Practice meditation (mindfulness of breathing) and sport can help you to be patient and resilient;
- Speak to other people, especially your family/partner, they can support you a lot;
- Be kind to yourself and don’t compare your score with others’; accept yourself as you are;
- Prepare for a journey, not for only a short period of preparation: you have to understand yourself and change some habits that you don’t want to change;
- Sleep and take a complete break one day a week;
- Use your error log: it is not sufficient to create it, you have to use it everyday! I have understood this late.
- Take your GMAT when you are ready: forget the deadlines and everything. Taking the GMAT when you are not ready is something that can destroy your motivation and even cost you money.

If you’d like to tell me some insights or something, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for the support and good luck.

If you need help contact me by pm, I’m also Italian and scored 710 recently

Congrats on your 640. Looks like you got your verbal to a very good spot but it seems your quant has stagnated a bit. I feel your best best to improve your score (not sure if you agree) would be to try to keep practicing verbal but to do a fast/quick review of quant to push it back up to Q40 and ideally to Q45. I don't know if that's realistic but it would turbocharge your score...
